Yep - and their tweaking will somehow fuck us in a future year.

Look, I'm old and old school about college football. I wish the max playoff would be 8 teams, to where a 3 loss team never makes it.

But they'll move to 16 teams soon to ensure 3 loss SEC powerhouses make it. Don't know how people can complain after that. It already feels gross to say a 3 loss team is getting fucked out of the postseason right now, even though it's a legit argument.

I can't stand him, but Booger McFarland brought up Kentucky and MSU in his analysis as well when discussing Texas year long performance. Fans here argue about the "entire" body of work, but seem to want to gloss over our struggles against every. Single. Team. without a pig, schooner or bearcat mascot. Hell UTEP is 2-10, ahead of only SHSU in conference USA and we beat them by 17 fucking points at home.

Here’s the thing that’s so infuriating… college hoops is so much better from a scheduling perspective (yeah it sucks but that’s bc the nba has the best 100 human beings 18-21 playing in it in a way the nfl cannot and will not) because the tournament committee says “who did you beat and where did you beat them” and not “how many losses do you have. Because of that we see really great tournaments, neutral site games conference challenges and home and homes between national powers. It works.
when the committee in football says not who did you beat snd where did you play and instead “how many losses do you have” we will see a wasteland of shit.
a modest proposal:  all playoff teams must have either a great win (top 10) or two good wins (top 20) to qualify.
that would incentivize everyone to schedule really good games. It would fix almost everything. This year’s eligible teams:

Ohio state (Texas and Michigan)

Indiana (Oregon- top 10)

aggy (domers)

Georgia (Texas, ole Miss)

tech (not in unless they beat byu)

ole Miss (OU, Tulane)

Oklahoma (Bama, michigan)

Domers (nope- only mediocre USC win barely in top 20)

bama (Georgia)

byu (nope- not unless they beat tech)

Utah (nope)

Vandy (nope)

Texas (aggy, OU, Vandy)

Miami (Domers - nobody else)

if you don’t get to 12 doing that fill in with whoever else wins the eye test I guess.  Aggy and Miami have tentative grasp on qualifying wins depending upon what one did with Domers

that one simple trick would make September fucking awesome, and it would make conference schedules better too bc conferences wouldn’t WS t their best teams to duck each other to protect the loss column  college football could be twice as good without changing anything other than committee selection criteria  TV and fans would win big time

Only problem is this isn’t entirely within a programs control. Unexpected collapses, etc. but something needs to be done

Can you imagine the dick sucking that a 3-loss ND would get if they'd played 5 of the top 14 teams in the country, went 3-2 against those teams, and played the undisputed #1 team in the country their closest game of the season on the road?

They would be in actually.

Yeah, denigrating blOU and Alabama for squeaking by LSU and Auburn rings a bit hollow. We looked absolutely terrible in our wins over 5-7 Kentucky and 5-7 Mississippi State.

This is the bottom line problem. Without divisions, these super conferences are just crapshoots and conferences standings are totally meaningless. There should be 8 to 10 team true divisions where every team plays every team… funny, sounds an awful lot like the conferences used to be.

and you see it in excruciating detail in the post above mine. Good lord

So we make 2 divisions, east and west.  West would be UT, Aggie, OU, Mizzery, LSU, MSU. UM,, and pig.   We can call ourselves…. The SWC and watch Aggie heads explode

Good for them.  None are a threat to win the championship and probably none of them will win a playoff game except against each other.

I mean- in the last 2 years Texas is 0-5 against Georgia and Ohio state and 24-1 against everyone else. In that 24 wins over the last 2 years you have probably more scalps than all other teams not named Ohio state and Georgia (to be fair maybe Oregon). To say we can’t make the semis is dumb. Do we get seeded where we won’t have to play Ohio state or Georgia before the semi’s? Then we can make them.
we are pretty clearly the 3rd best team over the last 2 or 3 years collectively, and not as good as Georgia or Ohio state. 1 loss to Florida doesn’t change that.

Then you are deluding yourself.  Look the aggy win was FUCKING FANTASTIC.  But for all the reasons I was fairly confident we could win that game they were also not a good measuring stick for can we win it all.  Neither was OU with their shitastic offense.   We've seen those measuring sticks. tOSU 14 Texas 7, Georgia 35 Texas 10.

We could've beaten Ohio State in their house if we had Concussed Arch instead of Un-concussed Arch, who was throwing at the feet or 8 yards away from receivers. Some of that was pressure, but a lot of that was being un-concussed, because it took him half the season to get it together. UGA was a 4-point game into the 4th, until Kirby gambled on two 4th downs and an onside kick, and our team unraveled. If we stopped the first fourth down and took over the ball deep in UGA territory (or UGA didn't get a free timeout on a needless review to discuss things after initially setting up to punt it), we would've been right in the game. Both games would be winnable if we had another shot.

Unfortunately we scheduled Michigan and OSU when we were in the big 12 with only 4 playoff teams and needed as many things on our resume as possible to get a big 12 team in the playoffs because the conference sucks shit through a straw. Now that we’re not in that shitty conference and it’s abundantly clear a tough schedule doesn’t matter to get in with 12 teams, it’s time to clear the schedule and just play shitty G5 teams ooc.

The SEC does not allow this. We have to have at least one P4 team. Take it up with Sankey but he's not removing that because he has a bunch of long time SEC teams that play out of conference in-state and border state rivals.

What’s even worse is the self loathing. If we don’t do that we deserve to be shit all over and sit in the corner like a dumbass. Meanwhile Saban got to lose once every year with no problem when the conferences were much more balanced and that wasn’t the deal for everyone else. Texas has to be generational in talent or many in our fanbase are like fuck it- we suck.

#11 if bama and byu are ahead of us is actually a signal Texas is in with one more loss.

#13 means we are out.

#12 is a head scratcher depends on who is ahead it could mean last out or if bama and BYU win we are in.

to be clear I have no prediction and expect #12-13 on Tuesday (lip service to salty top 12 record) and we are out.

OSU, Indiana, Georgia, Oregon, Aggie, Tech, Ole Miss, OU, Bama, Notre Dame.  That’s 10 teams we won’t be ahead of this week, all of which are locks (unless Georgia crushes Bama by more than 35-10) or have a specific replacement (BYU for Tech).

That’s presumes we jump Miami (who should jump Notre Dame, but won’t), Utah, Vandy (who just crushed Tennessee), and BYU.

So, again, 11 is best case this week and next without some epiphany/shenanigans and if we are 11, the ACC and Group of 5 knock us out.  I enjoy running scenarios and trying to make the argument for us on a Sunday morning before the NFL starts.  But I also have accepted our Citrus Bowl fate.

I am for as many meaningful college football games as possible. I don’t care about the records. Honestly, it seems odd to me that people would rather watch shitty bowl games with the majority of the star players sitting out instead of a loser goes home playoff game. Last year people did not think ND deserved to be in the playoffs, but they almost won the whole thing. We need more meaningful games, not less

ND struggled to put up 25 BC with like 5 take aways

OU struggled against coachless LSU

A&M barely beat Arkansas

Alabama was a few butterfingers away from losing to Auburn

People can pick on some our struggles but they are not unique.

What is unique is texas has been trending uupwhile everyone else is still on the struggle bus while rocking up wins against much stiffer competition.

thats probably pretty fair. 3 traditional door mats in the east. 3 in the west. Georgia, Bama, Florida probably a little stronger than Texas OU and LSU but it could absolutely flip all the time. Aggy and Ole Miss in the middle probably a little stronger than TN + Auburn.

Bottom line is this: our H2H wins over 3 teams who will likely make the playoffs is trumped by our one OOC loss. The question is this: do you want that OOC game to be in the regular season or in the playoffs going forward? If so, you schedule practice teams OOC and let your conference standing determine your playoff birth and seeding.

The system is broke. The committee is a complete fraud.SOS doesn’t matter or any other metric. H 2 H doesn’t matter.  Scheduling tough OOC games doesn’t benefit anyone.

The only thing that matters is opinions that they have and that changes year to year and week to week.

They look at W/L and that’s more important than anything.
