Translation: John Bianco sent Nahlin a DM, called him a bad name and promised zero access.

A $9.95er wanted a scoop based on bad intel? You don't say?

I’ll say this in defense of Nahlin-at least he’s willing to slightly risk access in order to report on the team.

By comparison, Burton’s unwillingness to criticize UT or its staff in any regard is like a little kid closing his eyes and stuffing fingers in his ears to imagine the bad man going away.

Secondary is fine.  Not super experienced, but stacked with talent.

CB:

Black, Chester, Littleton, Roberson, Matthews, Mack, Howard, Bishop, Phillips

S:

McDonald, Davis, Hicks, Filsaime, Riley, Jonah, JJR

It has potential, but outside of McDonald there is nobody that is proven. Safety was a disaster when the 2nd string came in most of the year.

Littleton played well for freshmen, but he was not a threat to make an All-SEC team. Loved what I saw out of Phillips and Black late in the year, but hard to know how that looks next year over 12-14 games.

Extremely young next year, so any prediction about the secondary being a top unit in the SEC will come with a lot of projection. Can they all play near their ceilings next year? Sure. Is that likely? Probably not. I think Safety needs another adult in the room and at least 2 if McDonald leaves.

Yeah, expect Texas tries to bring in experience at Safety from portal for 2026 season -- Suckeyes game is 2nd week.  😬

Better coaching will help. Akina leaving should instantly improve zone coverage.

no argument, but every offseason we talk about the talent and potential. We usually overshoot on our predictions.

Sunday

By Bobby Burton

Texas finished its first week of bowl practice.

There are a number of opt outs, almost exclusively on defense.

- Anthony Hill (NFL)

- Manny Muhammad

- Michael Taaffe

- Trey Moore

- Ethan Burke

- Jaylon Guilbeau

**

Muhammad has not announced his intentions to go pro a year early although that is the expectation.

**

Tight end Jack Endries is likely headed to the NFL but has not made an announcement either. (We've seen conflicting info on Endries, but this is the most sure I've a 9.95 be yet. Unfortunate for us, as I feel he'd be a big weapon next season)

Endries is expected to play in the bowl game.

**

Players who have announced for the portal are not expected to play in the game.

That list includes:

- Trey Owens

- CJ Baxter

- Connor Stroh

- Derek Williams

- Santana Wilson

According to Gerry OTF the LeFau release was a Texas decision.

Guess they have a solid plan to cut a starter!

wow - surprised at that.  He was a solid contributer, unlike some of our OL jags.

Lefau was a tackling machine. The Florida and Georgia tape wasn’t his best work. You could say that about the entire defense though. He was one of the best players on the field vs Ohio State & Aggy.

He wasn't our best linebacker this season and he wouldn't have been the best one next year either.  If a player like that asks for more money and you think you can find a better player in the portal for that amount, you can either give him a raise or upgrade the position.

Yeah but scary with no depth at the position. This one might come back to bite us.

So roughly we're looking at:

2026 Defense

End - Lance Jackson SO

Nose - Hero Kanu SR*

Tackle - Alex January SR*

Edge - Collin Simmons JR*

Will - Portal?

Mike - Ty'Anthony Smith JR*

Field Corner - Kobe Black? SO

Boundary Corner - Kade Phillips SO

Free Safety - Xavier Filsaime SO

Strong Safety - Jonah Williams SO

Star - Graceson Littleton SO*

Fuck, that's a lot of youth in the secondary. Has Akina been nuked yet?

No, Sark is still self auditing.  Lots of what-ifs and what-have-yous to play out.

LeFau enters the portal. Sounds like a money situation, but I am sure more will come out.

Damn that sucks. He definitely got poached.

They are being replaced as well and this has been made a priority, Sark has said as much. Some of you just bitch without paying attention to anything.

Oh look another one. Everyone expects Akina gone.

1) no one had Lefau leaving on the bingo card, so the point stands.

2) I caught Sark's comments about OL.  A year too late to make OL a priority in the portal.

3) wake me when Akina is shitcanned

Well this is fucking stupid. You want it fixed or not? Everyone is telling you Akina is gone.

Sark makes millions of dollars - he doesn't need sunshine boys stanning for him at every turn.  On noes, someone said something bad about Sark on the internet - can't have that. Especially on a message board where people talk about sports.

He and his coaches have taken us several steps back in terms of roster management and development this past year.  So forgive me if I'm a little skeptical of the ole "we got this" routine.
