Русский корабль - иди нахуй

He’s probably right.  As much as we talked about off-ramps early on, there is none at this point, unless Russia can hold on to what it has now.  Putin has to have something to show for the tens of thousands of dead Russians and the thousands of vehicles he’s lost there.

Only now Ukraine knows Russia can’t hold all of that territory against a hostile force, with both an insurgency in the rear/occupied areas, and straight-up armies in the field.  And the Russian people have barely begin to feel the bite of sanctions and losing access to cheap Western goods.

By the end of this, there won't be a single "pro-Russian" outside of the borders of Russia itself.  And perhaps not a lot within the borders, either, aside from the olds and the wealthy kleptocrats.

Reports that RU shelling dropped to near zero today. Speculation is whether they ran out of ammo or decided not to create firing hotspots for HIMARS retaliation.

Either answer is pretty damn telling and if the RA artillery are now seriously being silenced, their entire doctrine for advances is now turned on their head, and expect to see the massive casualties we saw during the early phases of their invasion.

No softening of the advance route means the UA is about to feast of the RA in a variety of ambushes and quick response actions.

Just wanted to point out the use of English after the hit: "YES!" and "Go fuck yourself!" though they don't sound like native English speakers. The tweet states it's a Ukrainian unit, so I just find that interesting. Do they have foreign soldiers now integrated into their own, and English is used as a lingua franca? Or are Ukrainians just becoming increasingly Westernized and using English sometimes (even among themselves) because they admire the US?

I dunno. Just like to think about this stuff.

The newest Russian general will be added to the Ukrainian victims list shortly, but it should probably be attributed to diabetes.

Many of these were fired at non-military targets.  Russian soldiers should be pissed that missiles are being used against civilian targets instead of helping them with Ukrainian troops.  But it’s Russian soldiers, many of whom weren’t smart enough to get out of military service, or just love this shit.

Dollar amount is interesting, but the real problem is not money - there’s no way they can manufacture a lot of these weapons with all of the sanctions and bans.  You don’t ask Belarus to supply ammo if your manufacturing is up to speed.

Yeah this is why the people who are constantly expressing the sentiment that "oil and gas are super- high and Russia can easily afford this war" really aren't grasping the reality of the situation.  The supply chain is fucked for everyone around the world.  But it's turbo-fucked in Russia and won't be getting any better, for years at this point.  This isn't the 80s, the Soviet command economy model is decades-dead, and they simply can't obtain a huge portion of the subcomponents they need to restock their weapons.  China can't fill in all the gaps, even if they wanted to, which is also in doubt.

And China isn’t exactly helping them out with ammo and vehicles like Russia had asked for earlier.   It would take Russia quite a while to reach the point where they can manufacture the sub components they need for their high tech stuff..

I bet we allow the F-16s.  Turkey is also starting additional operations in Syria very soon.

What a prick move. Let's fuck over other countries because we can't get our way on totally unrelated things.

They're not a particularly advanced technological country, and the brain drain is an increasingly problematic issue for them.  Smart people build technological subcomponents, and the smart people are the ones leaving Russia in droves.  Right now I don't see any way they could reproduce everything they've lost, from within.  It's just not something they're capable of.

Turkey is a dictatorship, not a democracy. Erdogan is a criminal that ordered his goons to assault American citizens on American soil.

He's a wannabe Putin with a much weaker geopolitical hand. Fuck him.

Who has been bombing the shit out of Northern Syria and our Allies, ya know, the Kurds. Anyone who supports this ass clown needs to read more.

Honesty I think this is more about Turkey’s gripes with the US than it is about Sweden or Finland.  If the US announced tomorrow it would drop support of the Kurds and ship F-16s, Turkey would probably vote in Sweden and Finland.

And this is all comes back to  Russia in Ukraine - Russia has to pull troops out of Syria to fight in Ukraine, leaves a bit of a vacuum for Turkey, but Turkey needs us to get out as well.
