When’s the last time our conference had such a shitty outlook for bowl games?

Looks about right to me but Texas game.

Huh? We had really good teams this year even with K-State and TCU being disappointing.

We but we got bumped up in our bowl order so everybody gets to be a dog. I bet we win a few of those though.

The only one that jumps out at me as way out of line is Ok State. I realize they're the ultimate Jekyll & Hyde team this year, but if they play well they beat Mizzou by 21. The rest seem reasonable. Didn't Texas open at 14? Didn't realize it's already come down that much.

Aren't most of the Big 12 bowls set up where the lower ranked Big 12 team plays a higher ranked opponent from the tie-in conference? The Alamo Bowl is usually the Pac 12 runner up/#2 versus the Big 12 #2/3 which the Alamo Bowl chooses. The Big 12 always feels like the perpetual underdog in most matchups and our bowl tie-ins minus the Sugar all seem to suck. I miss the Mack Brown Holiday Bowl Spectacular but we gave our half over to the Big 10 which was dumb. Who doesn't want to go to a warmer climate in late December?

Not too surprising though, the Big 12 is the lower ranked team in every one of those match ups.  That's not necessarily a bad place to be.

Good post.  That's where it's at.  If you can't get in the playoff get into a $$$ bowl.  Alamo, Camping World, and Texas Bowls are fucking surprising to me.   All double or so the Gator Bowl?  Wow

yea I knew the Big 12 got good money, but some of those older bowls have not stepped up with the cash and it is pretty clear that others that consider themselves a "destination" for administrators and coaches wives and kids and other tag alongs don't feel they need to pay to play

and I was somewhat aware that San Antonio and Houston and coughed up cash, but not how much until I looked.....this Vs the DFW metro area that is going mostly with just toss something out there and hope you land a couple of teams

Exactly.

Texas is playing the team that there are still people arguing should be in the playoffs

Oklahoma is playing the juggernaut

8-4 Iowa State is playing a 10-2 team that should be playing in a NY6 bowl

6-6 Oklahoma State is playing a ranked 8-4 team

Each of those is playing a team with a better record and no one expects any of those Big 12 teams to win.   Higher chance of positive press with a win than negative press with a loss.

We may be underdogs, but at least they're all expected to be good games - I just saw that in ESPN's "ranking of bowls by entertaintainment value", 5 of the top 10 include a Big 12 team.  I expect there will be a couple upsets.

1. Oklahoma vs Alabama

5. Texas vs Georgia

6. West Virgina vs Syracuse

8. Iowa State vs Washington State

9. Missouri vs Oklahoma State

Don't kid yourself.... if B12 only wins 1 or 2 games.... ESPN will dawg the B12 every chance they get when they post their BOWL CHALLENGE CUP STANDINGS... during each Bowl Game this Year.

Last Year they criticised the PAC-12 for 1-8 results....

Here's Last Season's Results:

Bowl Challenge Cup winner Big Ten
Bowl record by conference
Conference Bowls Record Final AP Poll
SEC 11 5–6 (0.455) 5
ACC 10 4–6 (0.400) 4
Conference USA 9 4–5 (0.444) 0
Pac-12 9 1–8 (0.111) 3
Big Ten 8 7–1 (0.875) 5
Big 12 8 5–3 (0.625) 3
American 7 4–3 (0.571) 3
Mountain West 6 3–3 (0.500) 1
MAC 5 1–4 (0.200) 0
Sun Belt 5 4–1 (0.800) 0
Independents 2 2–0 (1.000) 1

Gator Bowl sounds like it sucks.  Who's playing in that one?  Anybody we know?

Assuming nobody makes the playoffs or get at large bids this is the setup (obviously it changes based on who get in the NY6 bowls but still this is just for reference).

Sugar is 1v1 with the SEC

Alamo is 2v2 with the PAC12

Camping is Big12 #3 vs ACC #2

Texas is Big12 #4 vs SEC #3-8 pickem (SEC sets the matchup after we’ve assigned)

Liberty is Big12 #5 vs SEC #3-8 pickem (see above)

Cheezit is Big12 #6 vs PAC12 #7

Armed Forces is Big12 #7 vs AAC (no order, bowl chooses)

I miss the Holiday Bowl and the Cotton Bowl, but honestly our bowls are pretty good all the way down to the Liberty Bowl.  My only complaint is that we don’t have any Big Ten matchups.

Bowls in San Antonio and Houston are good because we don’t have any schools in those areas.  The Orlando and Memphis ones are also okay as a travel destinations.

I don’t see the appeal of playing a bowl game in a Fort Worth at TCU’s stadium and Phoenix doesn’t really appeal to me but I know others disagree.  Still drop the 3rd SEC tie in and make it a Big Ten matchup and it would look a lot better.

$225k payout per team for the Bahamas Bowl may not even cover travel expenses for 85 players, 20+ coaches, cheerleaders, other staff.  Plane tickets, hotel, meals, transport, incidents for 150 people for 3-4 days is easily $150,000 no? I mean a team could be underwater going to the Bahamas, especially if they charter a bigass jet.

I think it depends on if the Sugar Bowl is hosting a semifinal or not. We’d be in the Alamo at best if Sugar had a semi. Same goes for PAC and Big with the Rose

OSU is gonna skullfuck Missorah

I don't know if we'll skullfuck them, but two things make me thing we could win: (1) This year's team seemed to play to the level of the opponent.  Mizzou is ranked and pretty decent, so I think "good OSU" shows up. (2) Gundy teams, in general, typically show up and play pretty well in bowl games (we're 8-4 in bowl games under Gundy).
