I think you're confusing Italy with the middle east?

Probably.  Never been a culture of being in appropriate to women in Italy.  My bad.  Everything I ever experienced ever in Chicago growing up with Italians was just a misunderstanding.  Sorry.

I am a huge Applewhite fan and pull for UH because they rep Htown. Fuck UH for giving him only 2 years. He should definitely been on the hot seat for the wretched performance to close out the year but he should have been given a 3rd year. I guess they’re hoping that lightning strikes twice and they land on another up and coming can’t miss coaching prospect like Tom Herman.

Maybe UH pulls a "Miami Move" and brings back Coordinator to be new HC..... aka Kendal Briles

I can't see him going back there they are a lot of their idiot fans that are pissed he left and do not trust he would stay long if he came back.....he saw first hand what the buyout bullshit was like for Major to deal with along with the 8 win mandate and he knows what their talent and schedule is next year and they would absolutely demand a massive buyout for him if he did come back

he could have stayed for one more year and probably taken over after Major was hired if he thought that the job was his and the offense was not the reason they were losing.....and at FSU if the offense is decent he has just as good of a chance to take over there if everything else is shit like special teams, clock management and defense......or if everything is good he has every chance to move on for a head coaching job that does not involve tilman and renu and even more so one that will allow him to have his dad creep back into the picture

he knows how to play the game he was with Kiffen a year, moved to UH and then to FSU he is moving onward and upward ASAP not returning to shit shows especially one that distrust his family already

Problems with UH

1. Tiny fan base, but one that somehow feels entitled to be winning 10 or 11 a year.

2. Yeah, Houston's a recruiting hotbed, but you are raided by UT, aggy, LSU, etc. Those schools are always gonna skim the cream off the top, and that's not even mentioning Bama.

3. An "owner" in Tilman Fertitta who thinks his acumen for shitty restaurants and Lake Charles casinos makes him a football genius. Actually his high-end joints are pretty good, but that he operates so many shitty ones too tells me he knows the difference and doesn't give a fuck. The Coogs are no longer his top priority, so expect Landry's and not Vic & Anthony's type attention to detail and quality. He's too busy with the Rockets to pay much attention to his old cat-toy.  Yeah, I know he's Mr Self-Made Billionaire Man from Galveston who never had any help at all from his mobbed up Galveston family, but come on? How can you run that restaurant empire, the Rockets, and the Coogs? Hubris, man, hubris.

4. No real TV audience.

5. A president in Khator whose ego is almost as large as Tilman's.

All in all I think it's time for another tailspin for the Coogs. Unless I was some coach like Carthen (just jumped up from A&M-Commerce to SFA) I just don't know if I'd be chomping at the bit to hitch myself to that wagon. Fertitta will probably pull a Rich Rod or something like that out of his ass -- low-rent retread with impressive names, if not results, on his resume. Or Holgo, who is not even as good as Rich Rod.

They've had long down periods before, and sometimes the question has been raised if they should even have a program. The students don't give a shit, and as the school gets more and more international, they give even less of one.

Yeoman built a solid program, but went 1-10 in his last season, back in '86. He was so desperate he was giving free shoes to a terrible running back on my HS football team at the time. (We were jealous) Pardee righted the ship for a few seasons, got the Oilers gig and split, and then Jenkins went 10-1 with his players before stumbling back into two straight 4-7 years, earning him a pink slip.

That's when shit went really askew. Kim Helton was given 7 years to go 21-53. Dana Dimel went 8-26 in the next three years. And then in 2003, they hired Briles. Well, pre-rape Art Briles ain't walkin' through that door, y'all, though I bet Fertitta is advocating for it. Just ain't gonna happen. Khator would be lambasted in the media, and rightly so.

Unless they find some coach like Yeoman, Briles, or Pardee, with some gimmicky new offense, UH is headed for a long fall.

Gal I work with took her daughter to UH earlier this year for a tour of the campus and the UH homecoming football game. She posted some video on FB and holy shit, the place was deserted. For homecoming. Nobody who attended school there gives a shit and Houston the city sure as hell doesn't. I've got 2 relatives who got their post-grad degrees there and they don't give a shit.

Do colleges have homecoming games?   Thought that stopped at the high school level.

If Mahomes was his only productive QB, you might have a point...  but you don't with regard to what Kliff gets credit for.

He's great with QBs, that is irrefutable.

As an overall HC, he hasn't done much.  Your first sentence is dead on.

If UH finds the next "up and coming" Herman, he will be there what two years before he's gone to a power five job?

Any coach with any pedigree should probably tell UH to go fuck themselves and tell them their loud mouth president and their actions is why they are being told to go fuck themselves.

They fired a coach with a winning record after two years on the job. They shouldn't expect to hire a replacement who has options. They'll probably have to settle for a retread.

Maybe they should call Bret Bielema.

Not to defend Major, but that’s silly. I guess Ricky Williams was a badass as a freshman but not thereafter.

While your point is valid, it actually somewhat reinforces mine. A badass QB with Ricky Williams in the backfield doesn't manage to win 10 games...? Color me skeptical.

He got blown out by Army. If your an AD, how much faith would you have in the future of your program if the HC gets throttled by fucking Army?  The firing is justified IMO. Media wanting to turn UH into some kind of clown show is bullshit.

Do you watch football games or just look at the pretty pictures on the helmets? Army had one of it’s best teams this year.

Its Army. UH was completely unprepared to play a team with inferior athletic talent. I imagine this was strike 3. Charlie Strong's strike 3 was losing to KU. before that game, we all kind of knew he wasn't going to cut it as the head coach at Texas.  The same is probably true at UH with Major.

So James Brown-badass in 95, not 96? I wonder how Nebraska fans feel about that.

Its also worth noting that, of the 3 QBs who are most likely to win NFL MVP this year (Mahomes, Goff, Brees), none of them won more than 9 games in a season in college. Not a badass among them, I suppose.

There's no shame in losing to Army. There is shame in not bothering to get off the bus against them.

It happens to everybody. There's more shame in overreacting and firing a coach after two years because of it.

It doesn't make sense. Maybe there's more to the story.

What's more to the story is that Applewhite is a mediocre coach, but this is the game that exposed him to the whole world.

Firing after two years is probably dumb, but they made their bed when they hired him in the name of stability (so much for that).

Houston for whatever reason thinks they are a big boy program even though they only have like 2 top 25 finishes in the last 30 years.

They think Herman in '15 is the norm when in reality Applewhite is about where they normally are in terms of historical success.

I don't think KK was all that great as an HC and he should of stayed an OC for a few more years to get some seasoning like many others (like Major) before jumping into the big boy coaching ranks.  Or they should of taken an FCS or mid major HC before jumping into a high profile HC job.  Assuming one wants to call Cougar High a high profile job in Major's case.

I will give KK credit for recognizing the need to improve Tech's defense and they made strides in the right direction in that area this season.   The lack of D is what kept Tech from really being taken seriously as a Big 12 title contender even under the great Mike Leach because everyone knew once Tech played the Horns or Ou Sucks,  Tech would simply get out scored eventually by several TD's and which both did to Tech during the balance of Leach's tenure.

What’s the Gibbs guy from Tech up to these days.

He was wanting go back to UH, but that was before Major got fired: https://wreckemred.com/2018/11/29/texas-tech-football-david-gibbs-reportedly-looking-return-houston/

He apparently has no interest in being a HC, if that's what you're wondering.

I didn't see the game (was driving home after we played TCU) but I thought it was very telling that Army took Oklahoma to overtime and that they had the ball for almost 3 quarters.  If OU's defense is going to have trouble with Army (and we know that OU's defense was NOT good this year), that was a good sign that a defense like UH's would have trouble with them as well.

Nothing pissed UH off. Their AD made comments about winning 10 games being the expectation at Houston and then Applewhite couldn't meet those expectations. They were dumb expectations when you look at Houston's history.

I think this all comes back to Texas. After Texas took Herman they were pissed off and tried to act like they were a big boy program. Instead they backed themselves into a corner with unrealistic expectations because their AD, donors, and president are idiots.
