So to piggyback off of the CFB Coaching Destination thread:

If they fire Major and:

No Holgo recruits will want out and player unrest dumpster fire.

Get Holgo WVU dumpster fire/player unrest.

Does this mean Littrell or Brown would be in play for WVU or UH...,

Cougar High will fuck this up and we can all watch the dumpster fire burn!

Anywhere but Texas.  Seriously though, he'll be highly sought after as an OC.

Has he ever demonstrated excellence as the true, sole OC?

No. He hasn’t. And he won’t be highly sought after for anything other than a position coach. Prepare to be underwhelmed by the  number of schools clamoring for his services.

Problem with firing Major now, is any recruit that just signed NSD1 might be able to ask for immediate release from UH.

On other hand, with K.Briles departure, and other asst coaches to hire (maybe Major has to hire a new DC??) it's almost like building a new Staff anyways..... so if Major has lost support, then might be better to start over with new Head Coach to rebuild......

Hope they leave Orlando alone.

Is the Bev Kearney situation still making him radioactive on the 40 Acres for life?

yes

and people did not believe me when I said Major should seriously consider the Texas State job, but UH and their fans and most importantly their administration really are this stupid

they are either going to have to fork up $3.5 million or more (that they really do not have) and get a "top" coach that will NOT agree to the big buyout to leave or they are going to have to offer less and demand the big buyout to leave and miss on a lot of coaches like Littrell, Brown, Freshwater and the like that will not take the $2 million or so UH offers combined with the large buyout to leave they will require

and if they do take the risk and pay a coach $2.5 million or so to get a Littrell or Brown and they do not require the big buyout that coach will be gone in a MAX of two years because no chance they stick around long term with this idiot fan base and bigger idiot administration

Holgerson sucks as a coach and he will be a disaster at UH and I can't imagine he will sign a big buyout unless he also gets huge money and also has a huge buyout if he is fired

with this move UH has pretty much sealed their fate as a coaching disaster and they are going to end up screwed no matter what

This comes as no surprise at all, amd it is a bad decision.

Every UH fan completely believes two things: 1) Texas is the devil and the reason why they cannot get into a power 5 conference and 2) UH should never have more than 2 losses in a season, if that.  Trying to comvince them otherwise is a waste of time.

Houston fired a coach that went 8-5

That is pure insanity

That's what happens when your sugar daddy publicly makes a statement that kind of record is no longer acceptable, and the AD and administration back it up.

And going forward, 8-4 or so will never be good enough.

hell it was the damn president of the main campus/chancellor of the system that said UH fires coaches for 8 wins

she has really become full of herself she is going from being a really good university president to an arrogant shit show for Texas higher education

Good summary of the situation in this article.     I wish the best for Major.:

Excerpt:

Cougar fans have shown their displeasure with the Applewhite regime in several ways: there’s no enthusiasm around the program, season tickets are slipping, and there are thousands of empty seats at home games.

(1) is clearly delusional but (2) is clearly institutionalize-level crazy.  But you are right.  I am talking to two UH grads who both reacted to the news with “about time.” Year 2 with a solid winning record despite no Oliver for a big chunk of the season.

They will be radioactive to coaches with options.  Tillman will have to fork out Jimbo-level money.

I have never, in 40 years, been to a Texas-UH game in Houston that wasn’t at least 75% Texas fans.

Someone has an overinflated sense of worth. Houston is a stepping stone destination outside of lucking into a Patterson type who's comfortable with staying put.

You'd be surprised how many coaches are comfortable at $5 million per year.

yea and that will never happen now with the 9 win mandate that both Levine and Applewhite were fired for

Patterson has had down years at TCU and their fans and administration rallied around him strongly and he bounced back as good as ever

That's because they don't have fans.  They have casual band wagoners that will occasionally show up.  That's also why they'll never be invited to a Power 5 league.  Spending all that money on credit union stadium was ridiculous.
