He’s the defensive Greg Davis. He’ll never be fired but he’ll field shitty defenses but do JUST enough to justify Herman keeping him year after year.

Yay

No he won't. We play Tech in Lubbock next week, they'll gash us even worse than WVU and Okie Lite did.

How in the hell did Iowa State hold these guys to one offenseive TD? Do we ever fucking study game films of our opponents?

That said, Herman made a couple of Rookie Mistakes... again... and he's not a rookie anymore.

1. 4th and a foot on their 30 or so yard line and we kick a field goal to give us a seven point lead - against a team we can't stop on defense.

2. They can't stop us either. So we're driving down the field. Steady drive - 3 min left and we go for the bomb - against a team we can't stop with our defense. The rest is fucking history. This team isn't ready. Will it every be? Fuck.

Iowa State was able to use it’s DL to funnel the RBs to the LBs. Our DL does a decent job of that, but the LBs have been pretty poor, especially Wheeler. Locke has moved from someone who also can set the edge to a liability as he can’t cover and his tackling is poor.

Also, I don’t know why Orlando keeps on calling so many 3 men rushes. Our DL is not good enough to generate pressure, and our secondary isn’t good enough or disciplined enough to cover that long.

Ian Boyd said in his postgame writeup that he doesn't really know how to fix the defense. Holgo basically copied Gundy's gameplan from last week, added his own tweaks, and ran us out of the stadium. Any team can run the stretch against us with impunity because A) Foster is too weak to set the edge and B) Wheeler is too slow to hit the hole and run the ballcarrier down.

Somewhere on our roster, we have to find a Mac. Wheeler's weaknesses can't be hidden anymore.

This 3 man front were running is awful.

Omenihu-wilbon-nelson-hager
Johnson-Shark
Davis-foster-sterns-thompson-boyd

That's what I'd like our base defense to look like.

I just posted something similar in the other Orlando thread, wig a few tweaks:

Put Roach in for Hager. Hager has over-run the play ten too many times.

Shark is too slow for a 4-2 front. Need Overshon.

Put Thompson at safety and mix Boyd, Cook and Davis at CB. Run Sterns at his current safety and have Foster cover the slot. Put Locke on the bench.

Something people are missing: turnovers.

Our defense has forced zero turnovers the last 2 games and lost both. Check out the blOU, TCU, and USC games. We forced a ton of turnovers and our defense dominated as a result.

The turnover luck we were having on the defensive side of the ball early in the season may have papered over some of our issues that are now being exposed.

Feels like lack of QB pressure has a lot to do with it.  When you can sit back there forever, chances of throwing a pick are way less than when pressured.

Even fumbles tho. We aren’t generating turnovers. But yeah,  no qb pressure helps nothing. We have to get pressure and we need guys that can fight off blocks to make that happen

At this point, the three man front has been completely exposed. If we cannot adjust and play with an honest front when teams come in with this gameplan that is on coaching.

I am also to the point where we need to play freshman or anyone else at linebacker besides Wheeler. We win this game with just below average from his position yesterday. His full on tire fire performances are rendering the 3 man front completely ineffective. If he comes out against Tech, that is almost a fireable offense for Orlando in my book. .

Weird is UT is #55 in total defense nationally ahead of tOSU, Penn State, OU, Oregon, OK State, TT and Purdue.

The problem is the blueprint is now out there now. We can lose the next two games if we do not do a better job of self scouting.
