I wish I could interview Trump. Me: Do you feel at all responsible for the rise in Covid cases? DT: I take no responsibility for anything. Me: Right, but you've downplayed the problem for months and it keeps getting worse. DT: The only reason it looks like we have a bigger problem with Covid than other places is because we do more testing, way more testing, nobody's ever seen this much testing, and they're very powerful tests, believe me. Me: Okay, but we also have a much bigger stack of dead bodies than everywhere else. DT: You're a rude person. You should be ashamed of yourself. Me: Oh, yeah? Well go fuck yourself, you lying sack of shit conman rapist.13 points

There have been a few sporting events in my life (TX/OU 2008, 2017 WS G5) where in the days following, I wanted to read literally every single thing written about them on the internet. The Tulsa debacle is approaching that territory.12 points

I just found out a little bit ago that my 48 year old niece was killed in a car accident in Bandera this morning. She was my first niece so she was very special to me. I remember how excited I was going to be an uncle. That's big time stuff you know? Seems our family has taken a lot of hits the last year or two. Hell here's one more... thanks10 points

We need to take Ike and Regis and then add Turner if he wants in. Both Broughton and Collins have positional flexibility so we don’t have a logjam at DT, and we need to set the floor in case we don’t have a big season. If we already have those two, it won’t be a problem to add an elite guy like Turner at the end. There’s basically no chance this happens. I think at most we could get 6 DL in the boat, which is fine since we only took 3 true DL last year, and SGW isn’t expected to be a huge contributor early. Jack is WDE, but in a two point stance. Ash has basically said he’s just adapting WDE to Jack for Ossai, whose skillset works a little better standing up (same for Dorbah if he sticks at Edge). But I expect ina year or two when our personnel fits a true 4 down better, Ash will move back to a hand in the dirt WDE. Either way, there’s not a huge difference between Jack and WDE. Harris is a an edge, and will likely be weak side (be it Jack or WDE) based on his frame. So right now we have two Jack/WDE in Sanders and Harris, one SDE (Thomas), and 0 DTs. Take Ike and Regis, then add Turner, Jackson or Smith if they flip/commit late. We have space in the class for about 6 DL if they’re good enough.7 points

I’ve always been of the opinion that people get the government they deserve or allow so I’m not shedding any tears over this. It seems like the locals are onboard who am I to say different. If you don’t like it you can always vote with your feet. We’ve seen this constantly on this day and age that a government, o matter how authoritarian, still relies on the consent of the governed (or at least a critical mass anyway), and my sense is that nobody has any desire up there collectively to make this not a thing.7 points

Per Mayor Adler on CNN tonight, Austinites are now 3 times more likely to catch the virus than they were two weeks ago. He argued that this uptick is still from the first wave of reopening and we should have reopened more slowly to see how it affected us. And there's a noticeable increase in the amount of young people getting sick, for obvious reasons like the completely packed, maskless bar they showed while he was talking. He pointed the finger at Abbott for giving kids the false sense that it was over by reopening so quickly. Meanwhile, we have Mike Pence writing an article earlier this week saying that there is no second wave and it's all media-created. And Trump wants kids back in school this fall. Trump, Pence, Abbott, and many others have American blood on their hands. I hope all you patriotic Republicans are paying fucking attention.7 points

They are, but it's a web of their own creation. YOY cost and expenditure models going up exponentially. They painted themselves into a corner on the fundamental assumption that demand will continue to rise unabated. It's going to be a painful transition to see if they scale the machine back or go down swinging.6 points

What the fuck are you even trying to say here? I referenced actual data. Not denying anything. This thing is still a moving target and a shit show, and we don’t know how it’s going to play out. The rise in hospitalizations in Texas is legit concerning. The rise in cases less so, as testing is happening at a much, much higher level. It’s incredible how many people want to ignore any positive information that exists. I still don’t understand why there are two “sides” to this issue. We should all want this shit to end as soon as possible. Yet you are now claiming you have expert insight from living in New Jersey and that Texas is about to turn into NJ/NY. Cool. I want football as much as any of us this fall. I also don’t want anyone to die because of it. All of this information is relevant, positive or negative, and will inform what is going to happen in regards to football. Stop with the fucking “COVID denier” nonsense.6 points

This. While it sounds nice to run away, holding the line here in the US is likely our last, best hope. If we surrender our position on the globe -- and we're running at breakneck speed to do so -- then what fills the void will not be pretty, for us or anyone else. We are on the brink of becoming the kind of world that couldn't help but fall into a WWI and then a WWII. This decade is where liberal democracy -- the concept that largely kept the peace and paved the way for unprecedented prosperity for 75 years -- makes its stand. And yes, the inherent flaws of liberal democracy helped bring this moment about -- there are weaknesses that were there to be exploited. But now, the fight is an existential one. There are people who don't think it is as serious as making our stand in the fight for everything right now. They are wrong. That is absolutely what is at stake.6 points

My thoughts exactly. A girl I work with is finishing up her Assoc. degree and was thinking about going to aggy. I told her that as a person of color, she most likely wouldn't be welcomed there. She thought I was full of shit until I had her read through the #racismatTAMUfeelslike and #hateishtehiddencorevalue hashtags on Twitter. Long story short, she thanked me for the heads up and will be enrolling at TCU instead.6 points

These people don't care about "ordinary" people or businesses. The first thing that happened was a strongman came in and took control of all enforcement to his arbitrary standards. The next thing is they went to business owners and told them that they had to pay $500 a week for "protection". Oh and don't forget about the "unplanned" donations. This is what happens in 3rd world countries. Power vacuum is filled, the leaders of the group filling it are enriched. Sure there are some altruistic people who are there but they are sheep. They bring "legitimacy" to the cause because if it was just a bunch of warlords the police/army would move in and take back the city. The loudest voices and biggest biceps are being given autonomy because they hide behind the causes the altruistic people want to champion. This happens ALL OVER AFRICA ALL THE TIME. Africa is not in great shape relative to the US. If this was a country that was not friendly to the USA then we would have moved in an killed everyone holding a gun. We haven't because this is on american soil. I didn't realize how many people lived in the area. I think I saw 30k residents which is massive. I be Erik Prince is shining his bayonet wondering when a coalition of business owners, landlords, and residents will ring his doorbell asking for the blackwater boys to come through and clear out the place. Wouldn't that be something to behold... mercenaries killing warlords on US soil to hand a territory back to the US government.6 points

No you don't. Strong's teams at Texas weren't good. At times they seemed completely unprepared (Notre Dame 2015 comes to mind). The offense his first two years under Watson (whom he hired) was awful, then the defense in '16 (which was Strong's calling card) was terrible. He lost to an awful Kansas team. He did a poor job at Texas. All of those things are true and I doubt anyone will disagree with me about them.6 points
