Every bit of this remains correct. If you are a Texas fan and you don't have a fucking mountain of respect for Tom Herman and how he has handled this entire thing I don't know what to tell you.47 points

These kids stood up for something they believe in, but most of them remained calm and patient. The university and alumni didn't fold in this "act now" environment like 90% of us on here wanted them to, and they all calmly got shit done. Would you look at that. Good job. Now let's go make fun of aggy22 points

Seeing my dumbfuck Trumper sister and her equally dumbfuck husband suddenly jump on the "everybody wear masks ya'll!!!" train after months of anti-mask conspiracy theories, it just continues to boggle my fucking mind that if Trump had just done the bare minimum at the start of this and asked people to take this seriously and asked them to mask up, we'd likely be on the other side of this, the economy would be in relatively decent shape, and most importantly tens of thousands of Americans wouldn't have died miserable, lonely deaths. Fuck this motherfucker.21 points

Yeah, today as I was out shopping at the grocery store, getting a carwash, stopping for a bite at lunch, and getting a haircut, I noticed people were everywhere. Don't they know there's a pandemic? They're gonna ruin it for us.20 points

This is what cults do. They convince themselves that objective reality is a conspiracy of lies intended to persecute their benevolent leader. I mean, this same shit happens all the time. From the outside, we shake our heads and laugh at the credulity and delusions of wacky cult members. You look at a guy like Jim Jones or Reverend Moon or David Koresh or Elizabeth Holmes or Adolf Hitler or Reveille or Donald Trump and think “How could anyone fall for all those obvious lies? How could anyone believe that fucking clown is the only source of truth?” And yet a significant number of human beings keep falling for the same scam and keep falling into the same cycle of paranoia and reality denial. Over and over and over again. It’s crazy. The fact that susceptibility to the cult mindset is so pervasive among our species is evidence of how badly we fucking suck. We are stupid and irrational on a fundamental level.17 points

Exactly. If there are two sides, the sides are: - Masks are a scam, let it burn through the population, it's just the flu, the media is overblowing it - Wear masks and follow the example of other countries who have had success controlling it and are now re-opening their economies, tourism, and society. One side is right. The other side is stupid as fuck. And if those sides happen to fall along political lines, it doesn't change the fact that one side is right and one side is stupid as fuck.11 points

The fact that there are "both sides" on this issue is why we are ultra-fucked. It's a fucking pandemic. A politically neutral phenomenon of nature. We should be dealing with it as rational human beings, in united fashion. Instead.....we're ass-reamingly stupid, and have decided that a virus is actually acting as a secret political agent to deceive true patriots and bring down a government. Contrast: New Zealand, Germany, Norway, Denmark, even the UK (took 'em a few weeks, but they figured it out).....and we can go on. It's not just that we're stupid -- it's that we're so passionately dedicated to being stupid that sets us apart. The Houston Chronicle had a 43-page obituary section yesterday. 43 pages. That's the ONLY "side" -- reality. Reality is that hundreds of people are dying daily in our state, hundreds/thousands more are suffering lifelong injuries to lungs etc....that's reality.11 points

Same. If DO’s on board, have to imagine pretty much every other player is too. Now haul ass to campus and start working. You have a new position to learn and an NFL career riding on this. Really impressed with UT’s leadership and the players for working with them in this. Hartzell, CDC, Herman, etc. clearly worked with the athletes and got buy in for not giving in to every demand, and the changes they’re making are really well thought out and meaningful. Love the idea of honoring Sweat in Painter Hall. And a ton of credit to Jamail for the name change of the field. Damn proud of this University. What starts here changes the World.10 points

But y’all can’t do that. The Republicans aren’t going to slink away in shame and spend time reflecting on the awful things they did. They’re going to bide their time and wait it out and come back with the same hate and death. But most likely in a smarter, handsomer, younger, more palatable package. Y’all have to stay in the fight. Until they are dead.9 points

God damn right I want a president that's so boring that 3/4 the time we don't even know he's there. Boring is good when it comes to someone that can fuck up everything like dotard has done.9 points

I'm sitting here wondering what social justice has to do with wearing a mask, lol. I bought some weed the other day and me and my dealer both wore masks for the transaction. It's just normal now.9 points

It's the most American thing ever to suspect that a global pandemic is all just a conspiracy to influence the U.S. election.9 points

I’m not here to call anyone names but I will say the difference between the criticism of White evangelicals / Christians and shifting the same criticism to minority groups like Jews, Gays, Muslims, Blacks (and the list could continue) is that Jews, Gays, Muslims and Blacks just want the right to peacefully coexist at an equal level. A demand for a level set to zero. When gays can marry (like White evangelicals can) it’s seen as an attack on White evangelicals. When Blacks demand racial justice (like White evangelicals have) it’s seen as requiring an “all lives matter” counter point. When a Muslim wins office, she’s accused of wanting Sharia or Muslim laws as our own (like White evangelicals want). And when all of these groups are criticized for wanting influence (like the White evangelicals have controlled for years) it’s seen as an attack on America. There nothing problematic with wanting equality and equal access yet minority groups are railed on for wanting it by White evangelical Christians. So be one, that’s your right but don’t come claiming criticism that’s harsh, exacting, and true is unfair because if the words were lodged at minority groups it would be hate. It would be hate because it’s hate and exactly what the evangelical herd does - project their deficiencies on to others and then claim “see, we are the victims.” You can’t be the persecuted when others gain equality and if you stand in the way of equality you’re going to catch a lot of flack and rightfully so. It’s the cost of being on the wrong side of history every step of the way.9 points
