People were generally happy when we hired Charlie Strong. People were generally happy when we hired Tom Herman. Maybe the Sark hate means we finally made the right hire, lol.34 points

I haven't been following our program/recruiting as closely anymore, and I don't know any more about Sarkisian that the average fan. But here's a contrarian take about hiring him. I kinda like the fact that his career has had some serious bumps. He's always been highly regarded as a coach, but had average success at Washington and USC. Obviously he has some personal demons that affected his career and family as well. But it looks like he's got himself back together. Good for him. Herman had nothing but success at Ohio State and UH, and he "led" this program with an asshole know-it-all mentality. Maybe we need someone with a sense of humility and who has been through some ups and downs in life. I don't give a flying fuck what any other opposing program or fan thinks of this hire. I just want results.33 points

The alcohol jokes are in terrible taste. Hate the Sark hire if you want but don't mock someone's struggles with addiction. We're better than that.31 points

This is either going to be amazing or absolutely terrible. There is no in between.31 points

You're full of shit. 1) Sark is aware of his capabilities & ability to function in high pressure environments more than you, Mr Random Keyboard Warrior 2) CDC and Texas is well aware of his past issues. It's not hidden or closeted. He will be monitored the second he steps foot on the Forty Acres. His contract will certainly contain clauses that address this possibility 3) Fuck your fucking face for assuming that a rehabbed alcoholic is not worthy of additional success in life or the opportunity to achieve at the highest level. In short, fuck you.27 points

I like the hire. I don't love it. But I don't think I was going to love any of them. He has tremendous upside. He can recruit. He can coach offense. He's been around the game and great programs long enough to hopefully build this up into something great again. I'm a lot more optimistic of this hire than I ever was of Tom Herman.27 points

So much fan consternation over Sark. But before I address that, screw Wanker Bob and every other dipshit outsider who thinks Texas should be satisfied with the current state of the program. Recruiting is a mess. A&M is surging, OU is kicking our ass, and we don't have time to eff around and hope that Herman can take it to the next level. Herman might be a good coach, but we don't have the luxury of time to find out. CDC had to make a move. I get the wory over Sark. I have big concerns too. But I get the decision. Once Meyer said no, every choice had risk. Kelly hasn't proven he can win at the highest level. Campbell is an unknown at the big boy programs. Dabo and Day were unattainable. Sark supposedly is incredibly talented. Drinking is what derailed his success. He's worked under Saban and learned how to assemble championship teams. As Burt said earlier in the thread, this is a high risk high reward choice. I'd rather try that than watch Kelly get his ass kicked in the Big 12 championship every year by OU.27 points

It’s funny watching people look at his win-loss record and that’s the level of nuance they put into their analysis. He took over a winless Washington team and a USC team under major NCAA sanctions. At one point he only had 50 or 60 scholarships to use. He did miracles under the circumstances. He is an elite recruiter who will hire plus coaches. The downside has nothing to do with his capacity to recruit and coach. He has more upside in that capacity than anyone this side of Meyer on our list. The downside are his personal demons. Not his ability as a coach.26 points

I really, really like this hire. To fill its job opening, Texas needed someone with experience, who can coach, and who can recruit like a fiend. Sark is all three. Yes, Sark has made mistakes. Serious ones that crushed USC. But he has apparently learned from them. And he's now at an age, 46, where he is coming into his prime as a college football head coach. Perhaps most importantly, he is a charismatic leader, which this program desperately needs. Chuckles couldn't handle the limelight, and Mensa was just an asshole who couldn't win big conference games. Neither was big enough for the job. Sark has been at USC, Alabama (twice) and the NFL. He has been on this stage before. Once, of course, it broke him. But if he has grown in the last five years, this could be a great hire. After a decade-long shitshow I want to believe. So I'm betting on a Sark redemption tour, kickass offenses, and I'm damn sure excited for 2021. Choo choo motherfuckers.21 points

I'm torn between how terrible this hire feels and how wrong this board always is about everything.20 points

The optimistic take: Sark has been an offensive mind at the controls of two of the great offenses in the last 20 years (USC under Carroll and Bama last couple years). He has learned to adapt to the evolution of the game, which means he isn't locked in on one "infallible" system that he will keep running into a brick wall. This is an offensive game now, and in Texas he can get 5 star skill position players to run it, we can outscore most teams we play with superior athletes and a scheme that maximizes their talents. It may look a lot like OU under Riley, and we should win our share of RRS's and Big 12 titles, maybe get in the CFP once every few years. It's not Urban, but it can be a definite improvement over what we've had, which will put us back to being a perennial top-10 team. The pessimistic take: Pretty obvious, keep him off 6th Street.20 points

I don't think Sark is a terrible choice for UT - assuming (as we must) that he's rid himself of his demons. He pulled UW out of its worst period in history (for which most of us here are thankful) and certainly has put in the time at Alabama. It will be easy for me to root for him at Texas. If he can build a solid defensive staff - his failing at UW - he's got the ability with the resources at UT to do very well. Yeah, he's no Urban Meyer but I think there is a very good chance he'll have success on the 40 Acres. Y'all did alright with the last former UW coach you hired (Darrell Royal). I'll be pulling for you and Sark.20 points

so much bitchassness in this thread.. y'all wanted herman out at all costs, now are complaining about Sark coming here... So much so, some of y'all think Tom should have been kept.. and if that happened, y'all would be the same ones bitching, crying all spring and summer about recruiting. Then comes the fall and we lose WVU and y'all want to burn it all to the ground anyway.. cementing two back to back transition classes. Wake the fuck up and let's roll!19 points

Why don’t all you charmin soft limp dicks that are sad it’s Sark go take up a collection and get some time with the BMD and see why Urban isn’t etching his name on the door? Do I know that Sark is the answer? Nope. But I’m sure as fuck glad that Tom is gone and listening to a normal human in that press conference makes me optimistic. Quit being a bunch of spoil twats and realize that everyone you wanted probably doesn’t want this fucking job. I wonder why. You’re loads that should have been swallowed.18 points

You guys are bringing up shit from when he was out-of-control drinking. I know I said, "I'll leave", but this is simply too much to ignore. He HAS to be clean, and Mike Stoops is not going to be your DC, and likely not a position coach. Sark was talented when he WAS addicted to / abusing alcohol. I realize that this post will get me AT LEAST fifteen more "fuck you" reactions, but UT would not have hired him if he was not clean and sober. Stop thinking about / over-analyzing the alcoholic Sark, and be open to the guy that is clean now.17 points

And hire some fucking bagmen. Fuck this shit. If the NCAA isn't going to do anything, then let's fucking drop our balls on the table and play the fucking game. Fuck the SEC.17 points

Tell Carrington to pack his bags. With money. Because he’s going to need them.17 points

This could be an incredible hire or a spectacular failure. Getting Saban's probable successor isn't something to turn your nose up at. The problem is all of you spent over a month thinking Urban was still happening. You only have yourselves to blame.17 points

Especially for the names being mentioned. He’s likely bringing 2-3 Alabama coaches and at least one other coach fully engaged in the game. This is a clear sign the fucking gloves are off. We just hired a former alcoholic and his bagmen to Texas. It’s a new day.16 points

So this retired rural schoolteacher dies. A lifelong Republican, she was devout and prayerful, a loving grandmother, mother, sister and wife, a servant of the needy, a comforter of those in mourning and a true neighbor to all. Having led such a life she was borne on the wings of angels to the throne of the one who is called I AM, who, due to her exceptional merit, offered her the truth of our broken world. She asked “did Joe Biden really win the election?” The Creator responded, “Yes, my beloved” And she thought “This goes further than I even imagined.”16 points

I said it in the other thread, but this has the chance to be a great hire for Texas. From a UW perspective, everything I'm hearing from both my group of tailgating reprobates and what I'm reading on the boards is that a clean Sark, with his experience at big programs and working under Saban, combined with Texas's natural advantages, could be a great hire. No, he's not Urban Meyer, and he'll need to make the right hires particularly on D, but he could do really well at Austin. I get the feeling that a lot of us here would love to see him - and UT - succeed. He's definitely not hated here. (We'd also like a home-and-home, plz.)15 points

All this alcoholic talk....something called recovery isn’t possible. No...never. It’s 2021, as someone in recovery, start believing that one someone can get ahold of their demons, they are a strong and special kind of person. Talk about the coaching all you want but he’s about to win the broyles award and that doesn’t go to the biggest drunk. Yeah I’m not super pumped but disappointed to see all this “he’s a drunk” talk with all the people in recovery or SHOULD be in recovery on this very board.15 points
