Hey, asshole--the purpose of the Capitol breach wasn't to vandalize property. If they were just trying to cart off the Speaker's podium or trash her office, maybe I'd agree with you. But they weren't doing that. Their purpose in entering the Capitol was to carry out a putsch. Don't take my word for it--take that of Elizabeth from Knoxville or any number of other assholes who are on social media. They wouldn't have stormed the Capitol if it were empty, as the protesters tried to do with the courthouse in Portland. They stormed the Capitol precisely because it was full with both houses of Congress sitting in joint session and being presided over by the Vice President. Their goal was to prevent that joint session of Congress from counting the electoral votes, which they accomplished, even if it was just for a few hours? Why? What is accomplished if they prevent the electoral votes from being counted? They honestly thought--because the were basically told this by Donald Trump and any number of his acolytes--that if they could prevent the electoral votes from being counted, then the person who was elected president in a free and fair election conducted according to constitutional processes would be prevented from taking office. That would allow Trump to remain in office, even though he lost the election. Presumably, he would remain in office indefinitely. That's definitely what Trump has offered in the past. So let's get that real fucking straight. Their crime wasn't vandalism. Their crime wasn't theft. Their crime was attempting to overthrow the government of the United States. And yeah--putschists get shot.32 points

heard something funny about Boulware from someone who was a staff member for Herman. He was hired and paid way more than his worth so we could get intel on Lincoln Riley's offense and what kid of defenses make him uncomfortable. So the first day he was in meetings and they put him on the whiteboard. And it was clear within two minutes he had no fucking clue what he was doing. So they stopped asking.28 points

I know this is the wrong thread for this, but Kerstetter coming back and moving back to tackle is huge for this offensive line. Look at what Flood is inheriting there vs. Warehime or Wickline. 2021 should be the best offensive line Texas has fielded since 2006 and that was before adding competent coaching and cohesive scheme fit. Herman had to go but he sure as shit left Texas in a much better place than he found it.24 points

My agent just emailed me and said that the company will have a statement out tomorrow. I emailed her back and said that if it is not an immediate termination statement, then I’m moving all of my policies(6) to another agency by early next week. I’m not done with this company if they don’t fire this bastard, I promise to let many people know about him and the agency.22 points

The one thing that I hate more than anything else is that that stupid helicopter parent mother fucker was right about Herman in the end. That said he will always be a cunt, I don’t care how much I dislike the head coach, my kids are going to Texas. Tom Herman could shove my grandfathers T ring up a strippers asshole while shitting on his grave and my kids would still go to fucking Texas. FUCK.THE.BROCKS. Wouldn’t take them even if they wanted to transfer here21 points

You are a man of reasonable, thoughtful takes and someone I find myself agreeing with on most topics. And we do agree that it would have been nice if no one had to die yesterday. I would also note that capital police had clearly been overwhelmed and the rioters completely overwhelmed any security protocols and were aggressively attacking the capitol. Capitol police were clearly fearful of engaging when the numbers became so great to try and keep things from becoming an all out death struggle. However, the set of doors/windows that this woman crawled through appears to have been established as a last line of defense barricade between the nut jobs and where congressional members and the human targets they had been given charge to protect. It appears that secret service protecting both Pence and Harris, two Vice Presidents hunkered down, had determined that it was the threshold. Cops had slowly been overtaken at every single point of defense and the rioters were not behaving in a way that allowed for any more fucking around. Cops that tried to baton off rioters or use non-lethal tactics/arrest them had been easily disposed of and overrun over the previous hour at every barricade point and because no one in the situation knew who was or wasn’t armed and because this was the last line between rioters whose behavior indicated violence and potential human targets (including two Vice Presidents), I think it is clear that the secret service decided this was it...no one could be allowed to pass. When the dumb bitch decided to test that, a message was sent and the unfortunate consequence is there is a grieving family and a loss of human life. the secret service is an organization that is well known for being a no tolerance, fuck around and find out group. I have zero doubt that the impending threat/access to Pence and Harris, as well as the rest of congress in their hunkered down place of retreat was the driving decisions at that point.20 points

You know what's orwellian? A governmental official threatening a private entity--which has a constitutional right to free speech, see Citizens United--for not publishing what he wants published, and having the temerity to claim that it is they who are violating the First Amendment.17 points

You aren't gonna find a lot of cop lovers here. But if your dumbass decides to go drunk bama fan from the top ropes up against an area that the secret service is securing to protect the line of succession during a riot in the capitol, and you get your ass shot in the face, you fucked around and found out.16 points

I don't celebrate it, but I certainly approve it. This isn't a kid getting shot in the back running away with a bag of skittles. This is someone advancing on a SS agent protecting their charge and ignoring both physical barriers and orders to stop. The SS agent stopped her from breaching that door, and it also woke up the people in that hallway that there are some lines they wont be able to cross without paying dearly for it. Every capitulation by the Capitol police up to that point emboldened those idiots. He brought them back to reality. To be clear, he didn't make that choice to stop the crowd. He shot her because she tried to cross that last line of defense. He fired one round and then went back to holding that line. Completely professional response to the chaos at hand. Actions have consequences, and when it comes to the secret service, the response is usually extremely binary.16 points

As has been stated, I'm anti-cop as they come. That was an insurrection. Colin Powell was on CNN this morning and was talking about the complete failure of the Cap cops. He mentioned that if anyone in London breaches Buckingham Palace, they're shot. Period. We should have the same norms for traitors and armed seditionists. Fuck. Them.16 points

Look, as a former civil rights attorney, I cringe at the “shoot em all!!!” calls here. And reasonable force was my mantra for years. I get Twice. But as I watched this unfold, I thought there might be twenty or thirty people in the mob with explosives and Uzis under their coats, and we were gonna have a dead or captured Congress. From a Secret Service prospective, the mob were all prospective terrorists. This was NOT a typical cop on citizen rousting event, but a potential terrorist opportunity to attack/seize congress. That it turned out to be a less accomplished and evil bunch was a fucking miracle. Any smiling Q-nut could well have been a terrorist trying to lull security before igniting their vest bomb. Secret Service showed great restraint, IMO15 points

No, it was treason. It was "making war on the United States." That's the definition of treason. This is absolutely no different from the traitors in 1861. They made war on the United States. The only difference is that the Army of the Potomac did a much better job at protecting the Capitol. But the goal of the Antietam Campaign and the Gettysburg Campaign were the same as the goal of the traitors yesterday--to capture the elected members of Congress and force them to acquiesce to their treason. And yeah--you do get a no-due-process death penalty when you are in the engaged in the act of violent treason. We didn't arrest the traitors at Gettysburg or Vicksburg; we shot them. And we didn't shoot them because they pointed guns at Union troops; we shot them because they were engaged in the act of treason. The government has a monopoly on the legitimate use of violence. That's what makes it the government. When the government is not the only entity that can legitimately use violence, then you're a failed state (e.g., South Sudan, Libya). Police get to use deadly violence when they believe themselves to be endangered not because there is innate value to their lives. They get to use deadly force in that instance because they are agents of the government. Which is to say that in that moment, they are the government. You don't get to use deadly force against the government (or its agents), and if you do, you get shot. Here, she was using deadly force against the government itself by trying to overrun Congress and prevent it from performing its constitutional duties. The government's life was threatened. And it gets to use deadly force to protect its life.15 points

I flipped to Fox just to see their take on things and caught a segment about the woman that was shot. As everyone knows now, she was a Air Force vet, so she knew exactly what the fuck she was doing and getting herself into. They showed some of her tweets. Sorry, but she got what she deserved. It was an attempted coup. She knew what she was doing. She did not listen to the secret service and other security personnel. Don’t want to die? Maybe a coup is not your thing.15 points
-
Ok--let's just cut to the chase here: FUCK YOU! This isn't a police-brutality situation. This was a violent insurrection aimed at overthrowing the government. At that point, the government doesn't have to wait for its agents to believe that their personal lives are in danger before employing deadly force. They can use deadly force because the life of the government itself is threatened. She took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. Instead, she participated in a violent insurrection to prevent Congress from carrying out the Constitution's requirements. The was a traitor. The only thing unfortunate about her death is that it wasn't that of a traitor--at the end of a rope. Death to Traitors!15 points

Pipe bombs were found. There are pictures of guys with guns and zip ties. I’m sorry if some people might consider themselves the nonviolent part of the insurrection. The officers did not have the luxury. They barricaded a door. The officers had guns. They fired when someone tried to breach. I don’t feel sorry her.15 points

Part of me is like “most of these MAGA chuds are suckers being manipulated by forces they cannot comprehend.” And another part of me is like “These are racist fascist fucks doing nazi shit.” So I’m conflicted when it comes to these pawn foot soldiers. The real criminals are the Trumps, Hawleys, and their network of grifting psychopaths that know exactly what they are doing by preying on vulnerable people.14 points
