To be fair to Lalas, almost all of the Mexican fans at the game live in the United States and some are Americans. It's almost impossible to overstate the insecurity of the average Mexican soccer fan regarding this second stage evolution of U.S. soccer. They did not anticipate the avalanche of young U.S. players moving to the Big 5 leagues and are beginning to realize that the depth of legitimate international American talent is real and only going to increase while the Mexicans will remain the same Mexico they have been since the 80s. Mexican fans are generally tolerable when they are winning but they are cornered rats when losing, particularly when losing to their hated American rivals. Anyone who has watched the U.S. win a game against Mexico outside of Columbus and SLC has experienced the sad descent of the Mexican fans to paranoia, self-loathing and violence when the U.S. closes in on victory. They are losing in real time the one thing they care about the most and the one thing they have had over the gringos. The aggy analogies are disturbingly apt. The mindset of aggy toward Texas is almost indistinguishable from the mindset of the Mexican team and fanbase towards the USMNT. The violent and disruptive behavior of the Mexican players and fanbase will only continue to deteriorate in the coming years as the Americans win game after game against them. The gamesmanship (aka cheating) of the Mexican team is going to reach unprecedented and pathetic levels over the next decade as their futile resistance to American domination of the rivalry collapses. Mexico may not beat the US for 10 years outside of Azteca if the US fed hires a real coach. It's all over for the Mexicans and they know it.11 points

Flying back from SF, some guy put his jacket and hat up in the overhead bin. I loudly ask to no one in particular “WHO PUT THEIR JACKET AND HAT UP HERE?”, before unceremoniously shoving it into the back corner and crushing it with my suitcase. Turns out it was the guy in my row across the aisle from me. He glared at me, I glared back. Because fuck him that’s why.9 points

Legit LOL, 600K!?!?! https://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/funding_program.htm You don't even need advance permission for up to 500k. If they're shady about funding you'll see some number right up to 499k. Not 600k. Also my dumb ass - an OU grad, got several hundred grand approved for some project between my graduation and starting med school. I literally have no idea wtf it was even for. That's how pathetic 600k is in this game. We are talking NIH research dollars. That's big league. 600k gets you very little in the way of research. Also you keep approaching this as if it's amazing a coronavirus is being studied. Bacteria and viruses are studied all the god damn time - you act like studying them is nefarious. Basically all cold viruses are types of coronavirus. I actually read your posts to some pathologists here at the hospital and we had a good laugh...post more.9 points

China can be criticized for a few months of bad behavior. The Trump administration was responsible for years of bad behavior. From leaving a seat at the WHO unfilled to pulling scientists out of China to dismantling the White House pandemic unit. Trump and Pence are incompetent morons and put my health and safety at risk and fuck you if you defend them. That’s personal and makes you my enemy.7 points

Trump was calling the virus a Democratic hoax at a rally on Feb 28 of last year. He routinely minimized, dismissed, and outright lied about the threat. He discouraged wearing masks. At the Republican National Convention they spoke of the pandemic in the past tense, as if it was already over. A week before the election Trump and his idiot son told us that all talk of the virus would disappear on Nov 4. Do you think knowing whether it leaked from a wet market or a lab would’ve changed any of that? You’re a fucking moron. Stay in your hut and shut the fuck up.7 points

This is why a lot of former conservatives (like myself) have moved away from the current iteration the GOP party of today. You can't answer the income equality question because truthfully, you don't see it as an issue. The party has become a toxic brew of people who only give a shit about themselves and how can the party benefit me at the expense of the rest of the country. You've made it clear in your last few posts that your stance is "I've got mine, too bad for everyone else" and that thinking is going to sink this country. You're part of the problem, not part of the solution.7 points

The wife & I stopped watching 95% of the news stuff a decade ago. It has done wonders for the blood pressure. in spite of the cataract & retina surgery that greatly improved my eyesight last year, it is getting much more difficult to read the smaller print things. That is probably due to eyestrain while surfing nsaa.7 points

Take GOF testing and Fauci out of the equation completely for a second. There are reports of lax lab procedures at WIV. They were a sub grantee under EcoHealth. There are certain oversite obligations associated with these grants. We need an audit of EcoHealth's oversite activities of their sub grantees, and an audit of the NIH's oversite activities of EcoHealth. We're sending them tax payer money. If we can't demonstrate necessary and effective oversite of facilities and researchers in China that are taking tax payer dollars, we need to stop sending them money. That should be an easy one for most of us to agree upon.6 points

The ideas that "Sark anticipated more talent" and "this will be a tougher schedule" are plants from the AD spin machine to anyone who will listen and print it. That's it and nothing more. Reporters still have a responsibility to read and consider what they actually type out before posting, don't they? It's fucking obnoxious. People who actually know members of the staff and have spent time with them since the spring are all separately saying the same things - "they were surprised by the overall talent and depth, outside of WR and LB" across the board. They think they can be a top 10 team this season if one or both of the QBs continues to develop and can handle the pressures in an actual game.6 points

Let me confirm the assertion that you're a moron. You're a moron. $600K is fucking NOTHING in research. It wouldn't pay the salaries and benefits of any more than maybe 3 scientists. Look, you're a Trump bootlicker who has been bamboozled by this Fauci head fake. There's no shame in that, the world needs ditch diggers too.6 points

HOLY HELL. That was insanity. I just read though all the game posts, so yall might get a bunch of notifications. Im still mad about Ream starting, and Gregggggg deciding to switch formations, but oh well. W And a fan trying to rush the broadcast booth and getting tossed over the rails! There is so much shit that happened last night it is hard to process it all. A couple things. Horvath was fucking NAILS, might just have Wally Pipp'd Steffen. At the very least, GK spot is open and Zack shouldn't be the auto #1. Pulisic, him nailing the PK was massive. NGL, I was pretty nervous when he lined up. He has had the weight of the USMNT on his back for 3 years now, he is the one to take us to the next level, captain america, etc.. Seeing him smoke that shot and celebrate felt like all this team is finally turning the corner. For a year plus all we talk about is how well these guys are playing for their clubs. They had never done for country. They have now.6 points

It does still amaze me how many people have ZERO clue what "leadership" actually looks like. If I was dealing with a character exactly like Donald J. Trump, except he was the CEO/GM of one of my clients (and FTR, I HAVE dealt with similar characters), my conversations with the board/governing body would be rather plain: you have a leadership problem at the top. Nobody is actually running the systems that need running, and even if he was trying to, he has no idea how to do it, no clue how they run, etc. And he commands no actual respect, nor does he conduct any effective delegation. The leadership model is simply one of fealty/loyalty to him, not to the organization. So, even his lieutenants aren't doing their jobs (handling company matters) because he has re-defined their jobs as "serve the CEO's ego." You have dysfunction all the way down, because that's the culture created at the top. And the problems that causes are manifold: non-functioning systems, corruption and self-dealing, fear among employees and even stakeholders, etc. He's not just incompetent, he's toxic and counter-productive to your entire mission. I would say that if my client was a country, a city, or a local hamburger chain with four locations. Yet tens of millions of people think that if you are a blatant asshole, who projects assholery, you are a "leader." 78 million of us would vote for Sobel. Anyone who has any real experience inside a unit of any sort would choose Winters. But in the end, I think the Sobel model will ultimately win, because stupidity is our national brand.6 points

By the way - I was a complete dick in this match thread tonight and I apologize for none of it. Fuck you if you doubt Pulisic, fuck you if you trust this org still, and fuck you if you aren't on board after tonight anyway. This team is stupidly talented and they can do whatever they want to manage these guys or put them in positions to fail but it's not going to matter because this is a freight train building up speed that's end destination is eventually smashing through the World Cup. I'm hyped for the future for the first time in years. God I missed real sports so much.6 points
