Oh for fuck's sake - Charlie fucking Strong got 6 wins in his first season and that was with an absolute shit team with much less talent or depth than this team and a coaching staff full of has-beens or never was's. What the hell kind of mindset do you have to have to think this is a 6 win team?20 points

I went. SIAP... just got home. Card more talented, Casey was off. Unfortunately, neither had a strong night. Had a high school coach next to me critiquing the QBs at this practice -- he was hoping Casey would start as QB1 because of his experience, but nothing big happened for Casey tonight. Unless Casey has a great scrimmage Saturday, he said "yah gotta start Card against Cajuns". He also kept spotting open WRs that neither QB was seeing thru their progressions. (It's obvious these QB's are still struggling with their reads in this new offense.) SARK has to pick starting QB by Tuesday -- QB1 needs a ton of practice reps with the starters... Bijan= stud High Energy!!! Roschon looks good too, and had great effort tonight. D-line is for real. LB's were flying around too. Josh T had a nice pass breakup -- and Dunn made a nice defensive play too. Not sure if Worthy practiced tonight. Omeire tweaked his right knee -- not sure how serious. IMO... Lack of experience and leadership at QB and WR spots really holding this team back. Except for Brewer's blocking, not sold on the TEs yet. Need more alphas on offense -- guy with Kasey Studdard's attitude would really help. Gotta find a way to start 3-0 and keep improving to start the season. Hook 'em 🤘17 points

My 13-year-old son got his second shot today. Now everyone in the house is vaccinated except for my immunocompromised daughter who can't get the vaccine. But we're still extremely worried. My wife is a school nurse and classes start next week. The only saving grace right now is that my daughter gets regular IVIg for maintenance of her autoimmune encephalitis. And that's why when she got COVID in April she ended up okay. But now our lives are a constant battle to keep her at the top of the list for IVIg treatments as the medical community has started to prioritize COVID cases over maintenance patients. So far her doctors have won each battle but we never know when they'll lose. Get the vaccine for those who can't. Thanks in advance.15 points

Whoever Paul Waddlington is on IT Lots of reports swirling around, but this was provided to me by a friend with excellent football knowledge and a discerning eye. He agreed to let me share it with the board. Here it is: ** My random thoughts / notes Best five on oline might be: Jones, Okafor, Angilau, Conner, Kerstetter We look a lot better run blocking to the right. Jones does a pretty good job with positioning but doesn’t look particularly comfortable as a run blocker so we are much better with him cutting off on the backside of the play than being at the point of attack. Kerstetter gets a lot out of his tools. He’s not super fluid but he does a good job of holding onto an advantage and never getting beat bad. That said – ideally you’d like to see more fluidity from him at tackle. The hype around Hayden Conner is warranted. I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t end up on the first team before the end of the year. Actually reminds me of a slightly less athletic Justin Blalock. He’s wide and moves well laterally… he’s a pain to deal with. I’d be interested to see him tried at RT and then slide Kerstetter to center. You might think I’m down on Majors but it’s not the case – it’s just a case of a number of linemen we have having higher ceilings. I think we have a few compositions that could be more dominant in the run game and while Majors does a great job with positioning, getting someone who can win battles inside and has the feet to play wide zone (of which I think we have a few) could make this a unit that can take over games. If Majors is the starter then I’d prefer us to run outside zone like it’s our religion. Okafor looked great tonight. Best I’ve seen him look – had to double check numbers. Played with a lot of explosion, had good pad level, looked really fluid. Watching Coburn in 1-on-1s was really impressive. Majors held on for dear life twice and Coburn played right through him. Logan Parr took a rep against him and got absolutely smoked. I think Ojomo is going to make a lot of plays in the backfield this year from the 3-tech particularly with Coburn demanding a double. He broke into the backfield twice in the full team scrimmage. The offense got considerably better running the ball once Coburn and Ojomo rotated out. That said overall I like what I see on offensive line. We lost a few battles but the combo blocking looked good and we ran a pin and pull that looked great. Passing protection was decent but we struggled somewhat with giving up ground. In my opinion there’s a bigger problem there with the QBs not getting the ball out in rhythm. You can tell Overshown and Brockermeyer are benefiting from the interior line play as well as the talent at running back because they are patient reading the run and keeping depth then playing downhill. You can’t fake habits and I’m pretty encouraged what I saw from those two. Really liked what I saw in terms of pursuit and positioning from the defense. The only play where they really got exposed from a positioning standpoint was a great against the flow cut by Bijan Robinson. I expect we’ll give up a lot of underneath passes and wide receiver screens this year with how we playing match 3 coverage but relatively few big chunk plays. There are a number of drills from this coaching staff that I really enjoyed. Particularly for oline and linebacker. Oline worked a lot of different techniques in individual drills and while the pace isn’t frenetic, the lineman are putting a lot into each rep. They worked on explosion and lift in one drill with the sled and it was fucking impressive. The linebackers worked a 2 on 1 drill where 3 players start with their backs to each other and run out about 10 paces then turn and two players have to close on one and maintain leverage. It was one of the best drills to see athleticism in that group. Players who I wrote notes about: Ovie Oghoufo with an outstanding pass rush in 1-on-1’s where he fainted a speed rush and then pushed Christian Jones off balance as he was trying to expand and ran straight through him. Isaiah Hookfin with excellent patience as a pass blocker and great fluidity in 1-on-1’s shutting down both Ben Davis and D.J. Harris and making it look relatively effortless. Byron Murphey absolutely clowned Tope Imade in 1-on-1’s. Imade plays extremely stiff and survives purely through really good hand strength. Andrej Karic looks comfortable and fluid at right tackle. Handled Prince Dorbah with ease. Jaylen Garth has heavy feet. Hate to write someone off, but can’t see him contributing any time soon. Max Merril is in the same boat… feet looked bad which is especially bad at his lighter size. Myron Warren worked him over. Rafiti Ghirmai looked really good against T’Vondre Sweat in 1-on-1’s and Sweat looked great all practice including a great sack in the scrimmage portion. Junior Angilau looks like the best interior pass protector. Shut Byron Murphy down. Bijan Robison preformed great in the pass protection drills. Low frame, great positioning and effort in the drill. Alfred Collins looked crazy fluid at his size in drills. He didn’t have much of an impact on the edge during the scrimmage though… he doesn’t look comfortable / aggressive there yet. Vernon Broughton is explosive. Can’t help but notice him in drills. He’s a little top heavy right now but might be special later. Terrence Cooks is a great combo of power and fluidity. Wouldn’t be surprised if he has some flashes in games this year. Overshown got a sack on a delay blitz where no one threatened his zone and his closing speed from his drop to the QB was the real deal. Loved the play because it was awareness and discipline capped by athleticism. Neither QB is particularly impressive. Thompson is a lot more fluid in his footwork so he looks more comfortable but he isn’t a consistent or accurate passer and he has to put a lot of air on anything over 25 yards. Card is bizarrely stiff in his backfield footwork and doesn’t look great on rollouts either – looks especially bad rolling left which is a concern since we run much better going right. He’s fast when he pulls the ball but his passing footwork is choppy and you don’t see the bounce and resets you’d like to as he is going through a progression. He gets good spin on the ball and can deliver the ball a lot more directly to a lot more of the field. The reports about lack of separation from the WRs are pretty dead on. My guess is that they are struggling with clean reads on the match coverage and that’s translating into less decisiveness on their routes and less explosiveness in their stems. Needs to change. One thought I had was they they need to start having players positioned as defenders on more of the WR drills so they are practicing their footwork in relation to a defender and getting more reps reading position. Best pass of the night was a strike from Card to Washington on a slant. Washington dropped a touchdown later on a ball that bounced off his chest. Overall not necessarily in love with the total number of reps at practice. Not sure how typical it was but at any given time 2/3rds of the players are watching. The effort in every rep was high but I prefer the formats that emphasize more total reps.15 points

Omeire went down like he was shot. QBs looked comparable in 11 v 11. Card looked much better in drill work. The arm talent difference is noticeable. Didn’t see K Robinson get any work. Brooks was going on after Bijan and Roschon. Bijan looked other worldly. Marcus Washington dropped a perfectly thrown TD pass from Card in the back of the end zone. The only time I’ve ever noticed him is when he’s dropping passes. Don’t know how you can play him. Thompson and Jamison were blanketing the receivers. Jamison picked off Card when he tried to fit one in. Brockermeyer picked off Thompson on a drop into coverage because that’s what he does. I sat next to Anwar Richardson. Nice guy.13 points

SIAP. Summary: Jan 6 rioter pled guilty to non-violent misdemeanors and was about to be sentenced to 2 months on Wednesday. He was viewed as non-remorseful so 2 months was the plan. Others might be receiving probation. But on Wednesday, a private group reached out to the prosecutors because they found video evidence the rioter fought with police which wasn't known before. The prosecutors got the judge to call a time-out on the plea and sentencing. Note: The plea agreement spelled out that he could face additional charges if they discovered evidence of violent actions. Citizen activists to the rescue. https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/18/politics/robert-reeder-capitol-riot-sentencing/index.html12 points

Isn't this where we make a quip about if abortion is outlawed then only criminals will have abortion? Support for things that would reduce abortion, such as proper sex education, universal prenatal healthcare, universal childcare, etc., are almost wholly without support in the Republican party. That's because Republicans are not pro life, they are merely anti choice. So you can go fuck yourself with your numbers comparison because the Republican party doesn't do shit to actually reduce the numbers. It's not interested in that. It's just interested in votes from suckers like you who put less thought and consideration into their political beliefs than a 5-year-old does about picking his nose.12 points

My father-in-law, late 80s, was taken to the hospital last night with what now appears to be internal bleeding. My sister-in-law was staying with him and helping him until tonight, when she was asked to leave. The hospital has banned visitors due to Covid. So now my FIL is alone in his room, worrying about my MIL who is slowly declining, and scared of what is happening to him. I thought that I couldn't dislike the anti-vaxxer morons any more, but found out today that I very easily can. At least he has a room. I hope to God that he doesn't get Covid. He's vaccinated, but I'm afraid that his age, illness, and stress will work against him. Damn, damn, damn.12 points

Quick note that no one may actually benefit from: If you know of anyone in the Centex area who lacks legal documentation for their presence in the US, who is hesitant to go get a shot for immigration reasons, please PM me. I can get them dosed up no questions asked. My wife will put a shot in anyone’s arm even without any ID/verification (except kids that may be too young).11 points

First day at Alabama Juco remarkably undramatic. 9/10s of students appear to know how to wear masks properly, remainder responded with no fuss to my dazzling Napoleonic personal charisma, and covered their noses. Cop on security getting everybody to stop in front of temperature checks was unmasked. I asked him why. "Police officers do not require masks." I let that slide. I imagine he could still voluntarily wear one and show some damn leadership-by-example, but on the other hand he was awake unlike one poor diabetic guy they used to have. Office staff appear to have established a Magical Zone through warding spells where they sit unmasked in their cubicles and can come to no harm. However, when they venture into the hall, they religiously mask up. I have no reason to go into the office area, but maybe I should hide in there since it is plague-proof. The Have-Class-Outside-with-Social-Distance-and-Masks-Optional plan proved popular today, with the understanding that we mask up like mummy bandidos whenever we have to be inside. So far, about 5% of my students are in quarantine. I still think it will blow up at some point within a month and we'll be back on Zoom, but I'd be happy to be surprised.11 points

This is the genius of the GOP, and championed best by Rove. Getting poorly educated people to vote against their own best interests, and to be proud of it. This is why a majority or poor Republicans like the Affordable Care Act, but dislike Obamacare. When they are told it is the same thing, the get a blank look on their face, like a Tech fan trying to mentally calculate a tip at Red Lobster.11 points

Also, it seems that the unvaxxed are going to start paying monetarily as well: https://www.forbes.com/sites/roberthart/2021/08/19/the-cost-of-being-unvaccinated-just-went-up---most-insurers-are-passing-costs-back-to-patients-as-covid-hospitalizations-soar/?utm_campaign=forbes&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_term=Gordie&fbclid=IwAR0YMM6h_mMF4mFGIhtUWWD8zi7Y7r43BdoP-xpSOeSy4uBYYiOPMqX3WpU&sh=600d8fefbd9a Summary: So, the TLDR version: 1) it was the case for a good while that insurers waived your out-of-pocket costs for COVID treatment (copays, etc.); 2) once the option of effective vaccines became available, they started phasing out those waivers; and 3) being that unvaxxed are almost the entirety of the group needing hospitalization and critical care, they are paying an extra cost (the formerly waived charges) for their idiocy. I'm good with that.10 points

Dershowitz has never done anything in his life that even remotely comes close to “help bring about peace in the Middle East.” He claims that Arthur Goldberg consulted with him during the authoring of UN 242, though there’s no reason to believe he contributed anything meaningful (in fact when Finkelstein pressed him, he couldn’t even recall the fucking name of the British Ambassador that co-authored it). It really doesn’t help that his other “contributions” include plagiarizing large chunks of Joan Peters’ fraudulent From Time Immemorial, yet he points to that book as a significant stemp to peace. How? When he wasn’t stealing from a hoax and when he wasn’t reflexively blaming the Palestinians for everything, he was also falsifying Israel’s human rights record in the Occupied Territories. The truth is that not only has what Dershowitz done throughout his career not at all conducive to peace in the Middle East, what little he has done has been extremely harmful and counterproductive to those ends. He asserts Larry’s jokes as being “bad,” as if that were a matter of fact, and it’s simply not. He uses the word “while” as if the timing of those two things go together. Larry David’s career spans from 1980 to now. So even if we’re to grant his premise that he “had input” in 242, he can’t use that because that was in 1967 when Larry was working on his bachelors in history at Maryland. So Alan wasn’t really involved in “trying to bring peace in the Middle East” at any point in his life, Larry David can hardly be accused of writing bad jokes, and even if he could, he certainly wasn’t doing it in 1967. Plus, everything Dershowitz has done since 1967 has been to produce self-serving and insipid drivel (that real academics tear apart on the regular) while Larry David had been writing award-winning TV shows. That’s at least 5 lies in 17 words. Par for the course for Ole Al.10 points

Last night CBS News had a piece on the Covid outbreak in Louisiana. They had a segment shot in Lafayette that showed ambulances lined up at the hospital and they said they often had to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours to unload their patients because there weren’t any beds. The EMT’s were saying to just take them and put them somewhere because they had other calls. Then they interviewed one female EMT who still refuses to get vaccinated. When asked why, she said, “Me and my family pray a lot.” She’s trusting God to protect her. She should be fired. Trust in God to find her a new job.9 points

I was talking to some aggy friends yesterday. Their son is in the top 5% of his HS class and we were discussing college. Being polite, I commented "Well, he should already be packing his bags for College Station with those grades. He is a guaranteed admit." They replied with "Well, we have been thinking and feel that he should have the best opportunities available for him and his future. So, we are open to sending him to tu if he gets accepted." Then they started asking questions about CAP and campus, etc... These are die hard "Texum Fighting Jimbo gonna when a championship aggy" people. However without saying it, they admitted to the superiority of UT and treated it like they were announcing that their son was coming out of the closet. It was awesome.8 points

I was in the Helmand Province, which is where most of the cultivation was. We absolutely did not PROTECT poppy fields. We just didn't care about them. Our main focus was in disrupting and killing bad guys. We weren't cops we're soldiers. At some level much higher than us they were trying to enact some policies that would allow for the eradication of poppies in exchange for cash crops that can help feed their country. The problem was it was rife with corruption from the Afghan government, and it was a really hard sell to tell some poor farmer whose family has only known and grown poppies for a couple of generations, that there was more money in Soybeans or whatever. Not only did you have to convince them, but then you had to train them how to grow this new stuff, and then provide them with the seeds, etc. Most just shrugged and went back to what they knew. The only way we were going to affect any change was for Afghanistan to stand on its own, have a strong central government that can enact its will on these rural farmers, and then do it systematically. As you can see that was a bit of a pipedream.8 points

I grew up in a very rural county so we always camped out, fished, hunted etc. We got into to trapping for money which turned into more about having fun. We'd trap coons and put 'em in mailboxes. One time we put about 10 or 12 in the high school over the weekend. School Admin was not happy because they never found the delinquents that did it. Probably the best was we put one in a suitcase and left it off the road. We retreated to the woods to wait and watch. Without disappointment it wasn't long when a car full of folks rolled by then started backing up. As they peeled out down the road we came out of hiding and shit got real. The car started swerving all over the place, in and out of both ditches before finally coming to a stop. MFer's piled out of that car like clowns at a circus. We were laughing so hard we had tears coming down our faces. Another thing we did was catch a train on the move and ride to the next town where it stopped to load. Train would be slowing for the upcoming stop coupled with the fact there was a slow curve behind my buddies pasture. This was usually a Saturday thing if possible so we could spend the day in town. Sometimes the ride home was on schedule other times we have to walk home or ?8 points

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/08/18/alabama-doctor-unvaccinated-patients-valentine/ An Alabama doctor watched patients reject the coronavirus vaccine. Now he’s refusing to treat them. In Alabama, where the nation’s lowest vaccination rate has helped push the state closer to a record number of hospitalizations, a physician has sent a clear message to his patients: Don’t come in for medical treatment if you are unvaccinated. Jason Valentine, a physician at Diagnostic and Medical Clinic Infirmary Health in Mobile, Ala., posted a photo on Facebook this week of him pointing to a sign taped to a door informing patients of his new policy coming Oct. 1. “Dr. Valentine will no longer see patients that are not vaccinated against covid-19,” the sign reads. Valentine wrote in the post, which has since been made private but was captured in online images, that there were “no conspiracy theories, no excuses” stopping anyone from being vaccinated, AL.com reported. The doctor, who said at least three unvaccinated patients have asked him where they could get a vaccine since he posted the photo, has remained resolute to those who have questioned his decision in recent days. “If they asked why, I told them covid is a miserable way to die and I can’t watch them die like that,” wrote Valentine, who has specialized in family medicine with Diagnostic and Medical Clinic since 2008...8 points
