  3. While I appreciate everyone’s thoughts in this thread on whether religion is real or not, how the universe started and all the other stuff I think many are missing the key to why the OP started this thread. It has to do with religion being part of the government and certain religious beliefs being forced on others through the government (correct me if I’m wrong OP). So those of you on this thread that are religious (seems to be mostly Christian’s here), I totally respect your beliefs and what makes this country great is everyone gets to believe whatever the fuck religion they want or not believe in religion at all and the government can’t do shit about it. It seems many Christians feel the government should allow them to force their beliefs on others (prayers in public school, Christmas trees in government buildings, I guess the whole abortion thing, etc…) yet I am pretty sure those same Christians would not want the government to force other religion’s beliefs on them. We don’t need the Jews forcing the government to force every man to have circumcisions or certain Muslim beliefs to be forced on the population where women have to cover their whole bodies except their eyes and so on. What this all really boils down to is why the fuck can’t I buy beer and wine before noon on Sunday morning in Texas.

  6. I was at lunch today with my wife and two professional contacts, both women, came in to order takeaway (their office is nearby the restaurant). I didn’t notice them at all, but one of them walked up to the table and said “956, hi, good to see you.” I introduced them briefly to my wife, exchange of pleasantries, they went to the counter to order. Anyway, wife resumes her monologue, which is about how many toads she saw while walking the dog, and how said toads try to hide or hop away when they see the dog. Sometime during the monologue my two colleagues paid and are leaving, they wave at my table and I wave back and then I get this: “I guess other women are more interesting than me and what I need to tell you.”

  8. The single most important thing right now is to emphasize that the cop is wrong when he calls it a "battle rifle". It's a common mistake. He's probably not around guns much. AR doesn't stand for Assault Rifle. It stands for ArmaLite Rifle. I bet he probably calls a magazine a clip too.

  9. I'll set the scene/mood for you Imagine you just sat through a really boring sermon about something that went completely over your head as you sat in the pew in uncomfortable clothes when it's 100 degrees in early October. The day before you just saw Baylor get skullfucked by UNT on their way to their 10th losing season in a row and all you have left is to watch the aging Dallas Cowboys who are now just a shell of their former selves. You knew that after that it was Monday where some neanderthal coach was going to make your life a living hell all day because you lost a junior high football game the week before. Your day/life is pretty shitty, but suddenly you arrive at the mall parking lot and go into the special cafeteria entrance where a blast of AC hits you in the face and a sweet old black lady loads you up an order of Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes (brown gravy), Mac & Cheese, fruit salad, a dinner roll, and chocolate icebox pie. It turned out that there was a point to life after all.

  24. One can call it complementarianism or whatever term men in the Catholic church and or People of Praise adherents decided to call it, but following this belief the man is still the head of the household and men do not serve under female leadership in roles of the church. That stays within the boundaries of the home and church and secular laws are followed? Well, do your thing. But we have one such person sitting on the Supreme Court and that court has been rather activist of late so pardon my skepticism. I have watched in three generations rights been given and taken away. How long before I watch my daughter suffer the way my mother did because someone believes women should stay at home and endure pain and infertility and no mental health counseling due to lack of healthcare or that women be unable to vote? Amy is fine to take advantage of her position, but she is not unlike Clarence Thomas if she thinks that is going to last and maybe that is what she wants. But what she wants and what I want are apparently two different things. What I want is the equity in the illustration with the baseball game and the three fans standing on different sized boxes but according to many faiths, females shouldn't be watching the game at all. Men make the rules, men write the laws, women are supposed to be complimentary (pun intended). I'm not even going to delve into being allowed to play. If it seems I am slamming my hand on the table for feminism, I am referring to anyone (including women) whom the Founding Fathers deemed irrelevant.

  33. You covered it. There's really not much empirical basis for refuting the point, so I think that's covered. But we can certainly go on a related tangent about how bullshit "religiosity" has fucked up our culture and our politics. 1) If you rely on a system of faith/magical belief, and fear of divine repercussions, in order to behave decently and ethically, you are a fucking sociopath. The concepts and broad benefits of behaving decently and ethically exist, robustly, outside of any religious framework as well. 2) When you can't even TRY TO FOLLOW the core elements of that faith/magical belief (be decent to your fellow man, don't be a dick), and in fact do the opposite, ALL THE WHILE claiming that the very faith/magical belief you claim "membership" in shields your actions from all criticism or consequence because that's your "religious freedom," you are a sociopathic dick. If our religion, culture, and politics, were run based on the moral and ethical foundations that define and run through both religious AND secular systems (be decent to your fellow man, don't be a dick), we'd be in astounding shape. Yet we have a society lurching at breakneck speed toward theocracy (running on "religiosity" to the exclusion and in opposition to any "secular" values) that is violently opposed to 1) the very value system that faith is supposedly built on and 2) that same value system that lives outside of religion. So, yeah, Hookah, I'll say the conclusion -- in America, 2023, religion is poison.

  34. When COVID hit, I was fresh out of a stint in the Lost and Found Department and need a way to spend my time, so I built a chicken coop, a covered run, and a larger open run and got me some chickens. My background. Grew up a farm and ranch. 20 brood mares putting out 15 colts a year that were broken to be used as working ranch horses for sale, and roping horses. 4-8 colts a year were marked for specific training to show/sell as cutting horses. Usually around 50 horses in various stages at any time. Add in about 60-80 cows for a cow/calf operation, 20-30 rabbit breeding does, 4-6 show steers, 4-6 show sheep, 20 goats, a couple of donkeys and 20-30 laying hens.....and various others dogs, cats, peacocks etc. As far as I know, a vet never came by our place to treat an animal. We can say I grew up around animals. My wife? Raised in Omaha, NE. Had a dog and apparently a duck. Within 6 months, she was telling me everything I was doing wrong with the chickens. 3 years later.....at least once a day....she points out something I'm doing drastically wrong that will imperil the entire flock of 7 hens.
