  1. Brian Kelly went 4-8 in year 7 at Notre Dame, losing to Navy, Duke, a 3-9 Michigan State team and Charlie Fucking Strong. He did manage to ride Notre Dame's bullshit outsized national reputation to two playoff games, where he was outscored by a combined 61-17 and his teams didn't look like they were even playing the same sport as their opponents. He's not exactly Nick Saban here, but he did manage to kill a kid, so there's that.

  8. No, he wasn't. I'm not going to sit here and argue he's an All Big 12 caliber center or anything but he was the midpoint on the line last year. Hutson in particular was abysmal for most of the season, and Conner wasn't much better and isn't as good in pass pro as Majors. Campbell flashed but often looked lost (contrast to Hutson, who had less of an assignment issue and more of a physical readiness issue). My hope is that's cleaned up and Campbell earns a starting spot to add some juice to interior run blocking. Majors was always going to be a multi-year S&C project when projecting him to center, and you can live with that if you've got competent guard play and the rest of his game is solid (it largely is). If he ends up being the weak point of the OL this year, it will be a better unit because that means there's been tangible improvement at both guard spots.

  9. What is this for? A full time stocker, or checker? Many of people don’t even know where or how to start looking for work. Yes, there is a lot of “I’m too good for that” out there. But none of that changes the fact that you don’t understand the percentages and reality of how many people are poor and have little to no shot of changing that. Which is literally the mindset that led to the French Revolution. the average cost of rent in an apt in Houston is 1300. That’s the AVERAGE, which includes all the truly bad shit holes, of which there are MANY in Houston. 55k, cut off 20% for taxes, that’s 44k. Minus 15,600 for rent that’s 27,400. Let’s assume the person owns a shit box car, so no car payment, but let’s say 100 a month for insurance, let’s say 200 a month in gas, 300 in other bills (electric, tv services, internet). Let’s say they drink tap water and eat ramen, so I’ll generously say 150 a month in groceries. That’s 9k a year, so 18,400 left. Let’s hope there’s no other expenses, no doctor visits, no car repairs, and certainly no hope of having or caring for children, because childcare is the same as rent, which would knock your remaining dollars down to 2800 a year, not including feeding and clothing. And god forbid ever buy a new used-car. I don’t know about you, but that “opportunity” looks like a job that can feed you, but has little chance of even allowing you to enjoy much of your life, definitely no chance to reasonably dream for a better one. A VCR salesman in the 80s could support a family, mortgage, cars and still afford to take the family on a vacation every year. Today a teacher in Texas is literally what I described above. this creates the really bad hopelessness other posters have referenced in the youth. Anecdotally, I’m here at Lost Pines with my family this weekend. It is expensive, and we aren’t skipping anything we want based on price, but the level of disregard for money here is astonishing….by the people that have it. 600 bucks last I checked for people to rent a cabana, for 4 hours, so they can sit by the lazy river in a covered area, with a tv they aren’t watching, to play on their phones and not talk to their family. I floated by them dozens of times on Friday and Saturday. Those kids will grow up thinking that’s normal. THAT IS NOT WHAT IS NORMAL TO 98% OF THE WORLD. And there’s 1500 people here right now. And every resort in Texas, probably.

  10. I’m careful of what I post, simply because you would be surprised who lurks on these forums. But DJ Campbell is your starting RG. Hutson started camp with the ones out of respect that he was a returning starter, but it’s pretty known/expected that Campbell will start. That’s what the coaches want and are planning around. LG is where the true battle is. LG Edge CB Those are the real camp battles and CB is starting to appear clearer even though the 3rd and 4th CBs are coverage studs.

  11. I mean, I don't want to belabor the point or anything, but sometimes you want to make a joke, you put in a search term into PH, and instead of a tab name that gives you what you wanted, you instead get "not found," because sadly, there are no porn videos or images on PornHub for that particular proclivity. (Sigh.) But the joy of the World Wide Weeb is that all that shit is stored locally, so you just pull up the developer tools and modify where needed. Let's take this poor, innocent, unsuspecting website, for example. Oh, dear. This does not represent our little brother university well at all. We'll start with the tab title. Note: I'm doing this in Firefox, but Chrome/Edge/etc can do this just as well. Hmm, that's OK as a side joke, but it's cut off and hard to see. There we go. Note how I'm using the search bar to skip through the content more easily. You can also hover the mouse over different bits and they'll get highlighted on the page above, as you can see. Now, let's get that poll question fixed up. OK! Now the joke is getting a little thin. I still feel like more can be done about the tab title, though. Once you get the knack for it, you can modify the whole thing. Menu bars, text... if you're good at CSS and JavaScript, you can even change the way the page works. (Fun way to skip the blockers on paid articles, BTW.) A few more changes, and we end up with this lovely final product: themoreyouknow.gif

  12. The very name "Texas Pete" implies that it's not currently residing in Texas. Do you leave your house in Austin and walk down the sidewalk with bluebirds chirping like in a banned Disney film, saying "Why how do Mr. Texas Bob, Ms. Texas Sappho de Boudicca, and Sr. Tejas Antonio?" No. Those people live in Texas and therefore do not have a "Texas" nickname. It is when Pete from Texas moves to Hong Kong, Montevideo, or Charlotte North Carolina that he may acquire the "Texas" sobriquet. So the question is not DOES Texas Pete live in Texas, we know he doesn't. It's whether he DID once live in Texas. Lawyers get to work.

  16. As a former college language professor, I was always happy if the drunk little fucks could show up a majority of the time and conjugate a verb. I wanted to indoctrinate them all as well, but was lazy and didn't get around to it. Fortunately the experience of meeting all sorts of fellow students who may have been different from themselves seemed to round them out a little before they went back to McMansion Acres for Thanksgiving. A&M was the strangest job I ever had, I would never have worked there except I failed to perform any recon. Thujones does not exaggerate the yokeldom of the place. One day in the language building I encountered an old guy, decked out in Aggy shit including straw hat, chip on his shoulder, he told me he was there because his niece or granddaughter or whoever told him she had professors from foreign countries, and he was a-aimin to fix that by talkin with the high-ups. It was like a deleted scene from O Brother Where Art Thou. I told him that that was bad, for sure, and I didn't know about other departments but we were Foreign Languages, so we sorta kinda had to hire the occasional foreigner. "Chinese?" he said. No sir I don't think we have any Chinese but we do have several Mexicans and at least one Frenchwoman but she's OK. "Well I heard it was Chinese." Well sir there probably are some, I bet if you poke around campus some more you'll find them. "I'm here to get to the bottom of it." Yes sir. /Then I went off to drink myself into a stupor which is how I dealt with counting the days in BCS.

  20. No, dude. That’s a fucking home run. What you and I and several others here had was third base. Because you truly don’t understand the massive numbers of people born into WAY less advantageous circumstances. It’s not “some” people. It’s “the vast majority” of people. You likely don’t know that many of them. Which is, again, the point. Those are people born at the plate, or on first or second. You really don’t understand how many people are born standing at home plate who don’t even know how to hold the bat. It’s overwhelming.

  22. "Sorry guys, that deal with all the new tv partners that I talked about at media days fell apart right before this meeting, but we have a great deal with Apple!"🤣 Has there ever been a more gullible, clueless group than the past 13 years worth of PAC Presidents ? Klownkoff and Champagne Larry found the one group of people dumb enough to buy their bs, all the while thinking they were the smartest guys in the room. That Michael Crow press conference speaks for itself. What a buffoon. He and Ed Ray (OSU) were Scott's biggest enablers. Those clowns, along with the rest who backed Scott and rejected bringing in UT, OU and the gang b/c of LHN were the people who killed the PAC. USC and UCLA wanted to do it even with LHN, but all the other schools were so opposed to unequal revenue for Tier 3 that they dug their own graves. You also had a bunch of schools who thought they'd never get to the Rose Bowl again if the PAC had USC, UT and OU in it. How'd that work out ? I feel sorry for Stanford, Cal, WSU and OSU fans, but not the institutions. UT would have been in the PAC a long time ago if it wasn't for Stanford. Fuck all of them. They definitely got what they deserved.

I certainly don’t. But if you can’t even see that you had that advantage or muster up empathy for those that didn’t, then yeah, you have your head way the fuck up your ass.

  32. This cracks me up. Your top two dudes sit. Your 3rd guy is less than 100%. The bowl game didn’t mean much in the bigger picture. Whoever else you have has not played in games. Now it’s an early season practice. The top dog is out. It’s a practice. Here’s a shocker. Even if Keilan is 3rd team, he’s likely getting meaningful snaps with the first unit. He’s earned them in productive moments, gadget plays or not, but Sark giving him an additional nod is ok too. And those gadget plays will be more productive if Keilan can diversify the plays he can run. So practice those. With the guys that’ll be on the field with him. Now, if he gets the majority of carries and averages 2.5 per carry in the season, we got a problem. Who gives a damn who technically starts the games. We need each guy put in places and situations to produce. No need to worry about who runs out first.
