  2. Speaking for someone who showers every morning in the shadow of a ceramic crab roughly the size of VW bug, perhaps we shouldn't be so hasty about this one.

  4. Bizzaro world update for a mid-40s white in GA: Bizzaro point 1. I mentioned about a week ago that a Black college student of mine was asking trusted adults about whom to vote for. He’s committed to the biblical framework for voting, so despite his general inclination to vote Kamala, he was leaning Trump because trusted adults in his Baptist circle can’t see the open wickedness past the abortion issue. We share a similar faith background, so I presented bible-based reasons for voting for Kamala and left it at that. No pressure, just pointing him to a few bible verses and trusting him to make a thoughtful decision. He asked me to take him to the polling location on Friday. I didn’t pry; we only discussed the ease of the GA voting process. Today he told me that he voted Kamala. Bizzaro point 2. My wife and I voted the first few days of early voting, but tonight, she started expressing buyers remorse and talking about how maybe Trump would be the better choice. I’m note sure what social media propaganda got a hold of her, but I had to remind her that what she’s saying is insane. She’s smart, but the algorithm knows what buttons to push. So here I am, a guy who, based on where I live and go to church, what I look like, my age, background, regularly voting in Republican primaries, etc., is assumed to be a Trump voter, trying to help members of two historically marginalized groups rationalize and justify their votes against further repression. People are strange, propaganda is strong, and Charlie Strong was right about social media.

  6. "We fight for a new nation that will have chain restaurants, like Chili's." "Chili's, sir? A restaurant that offers nothing but chili?" "No, not really. I mean, you can get a bowl of chili at Chili's , but it's mainly burgers, tacos, fajitas, and ribs. And Southwestern egg rolls." "Egg rolls, sir? Rolls of dough filled with scrambled eggs?" "Not quite. These have chicken and beans and cheese and peppers crammed in a tortilla. But this is why we must win this war!"

  7. It’s not the humble brag it sounds like. My boss is paying his limo service to drive me to and from cancer treatment in Houston. Stage 4 glioblastoma kinda sucks. id normally be with you on the wishing Ill on him and his family, but he’s a super nice guy and seems a bit gullible and low information.

  8. Since I got to the farm this morning, 2 people I know voted for Trump in '16 and '20 told me (without me initiating the conversation in either case) that they can't vote for him anymore. One of them said she's probably voting for Harris because of how hard the Republicans have gone after abortion (she's a 36 year old white woman with 2 daughters under 10) and that she doesn't want her daughters to grow up without those rights and protections. The other (50 year old white guy) isn't voting for Harris, but either skipping the presidential ballot altogether or voting 3rd party out of protest.

  11. Anyone who votes for anyone other than Kamala Harris is an absolute idiot. If you have the chance to vote against Mussolini, you do it. You don't need to know the other candidate's platform. You don't even need to know their name. You just show up and vote for not-fascism. Or you could vote for not-convicted-felon. Or not-rapist. Or not-racist. Or not-isolationist-nationalist-xenophobe. How can so many people not understand this? If you're still undecided, or you're considering a third party, you're too stupid to be called a moron. We need a new word.

  12. I know I'm wishcasting but... I don't know any typical Democrats are who are so turned off by Harris that they would consider voting for Trump, but I know several typical Republicans (myself included) who are repulsed by Trump to the point of either not voting, or even voting for Harris. Multiply that by thousands and let's see how things turn out. Just my personal anecdote from N. Dallas burbs.

  16. well i just spent an hour catching up on this thread and man, y'all talk about some stupid shit. can we please not lose focus? when you're ordering your chili's chicken ranch sandwich, and i cannot stress this enough, tell your server to bring you the buffalo sauce and ranch on the side. if you don't, they will pour it on for you, and it will be a soggy mess. let's be safe out there.
