People who light a fireplace on the first cool day are human pieces of shit!  I've got all the windows open embracing the coolness after this beat down of a summer.  I have to close them due to fireplace stench.

Disagree.  It’s the smell of fall

I wouldn’t call it defensive if I’m laughing at the thread. It’s funny, that’s all. To some extent I agree, that it ain’t true hunting, but what other term is it called? I also think that you could have picked up on that in my response listing duck, quail and pheasant…

1. If you're talking to someone, learn how to use the quote button. 2. People have already answered you - shooting, harvesting, killing, whatever. You also brought up some dumbass example about fishing (no one called fishing "hunting" so what the hell is your point?) and said I should write a letter to Merriam-Webster. Why? Do they define hunting as shooting at animals you've been feeding? Nah, they define it as "pursuit of game."

1. Happy now that I quoted you? Whatever. 2. I must have missed the final vote. I guess we are done now, as the people have spoken. Ok, who gives a shit, it’s a thread in Lulz.

As to the example, I find it funny in the way that fishing is baiting a hook and waiting for the prey. Just like the example of “hunting” that was provided. Waiting for Bambi at the feeder! To simple I guess.

Lastly, the term “hunting”, seems a little vague. But that’s probably the point.

Anyhow, I’m done, whatever. Fun sucker.

Is it an unpopular opinion to suppose that a forum called "LULZ" is not the right place to go into standard Surly behavior of "I'm right, you're an asshole"?

If you want to call shooting deer at a feeder "deer fishing," be my guest. Certainly a more honest description.

Love the smell of a fireplace as long as it is someone else’s and they are not burning one of those god damned, pencil sharpener smelling, Duraflame Log, pieces of shit.

Cedar/Juniper outdoors, roger that. Oak, fruit- and nut-woods indoors.

In the infamous words of Bill Bradley…..

”It don’t make a shit”

As long as it is real wood.

I also like to burn pinion wood from time to time in the fire pit out back.

I actually love the smell of cedar burning but it is dangerous to burn, indoors especially.

LANDMAN SUX….

I’ve watched 3 episodes. The first two were actually not bad. While overly dramatized, the depiction of the oil patch and industry are actually fairly accurate.

There are some silly things, starting with the fact that no Landman has as much authority or scope of responsibility as the protagonist, adding on a pressure blowout on a pump jack (no pressure in the reservoir, by definition), and a silly teenage girl that apparently owns no pants.  But the terminology they use, the protagonist’s criticism of “green” energy, and other things are actually much better than I expected.

Then the third episode happened and it started to suck. It became a ridiculous soap opera. I noped out and haven’t watched the 4th episode. You do get to see Ali Larter’s bolt-ons in episode 3.

Been watching some Nate Bargatze and I just don't get it. He's not unfunny, he's okay. But the cult following and the number of people telling me I have to watch this guy because he's just so hilarious is baffling to me.

He's smart and kinda funny and his delivery is good but he's nothing exceptional or special. I feel like his comedy can be heard at any number of happy hours and bars adjacent to big tech campuses around the country.

Is he funnier than the funniest product manager at Dell? Probably? Maybe?

I laugh at Chappelle and Bill Burr.  Not many of the other folks are legit funny.

I think he’s pretty stinkin’ funny. And he does it the hard way, too, by being a clean comedian. Much more difficult humor.

A lot of people do-- hence my opinion being unpopular. And for sure unpopular on here with our (or at least, my demoraphic)-- educated, older, straight white male with grayer hair than Nate.

Definitely an unpopular/wrong opinion. I saw him live in 2019 in Houston and he killed. He has some great specials out, however his most recent one was not funny at all.

Mr. Pibb is superior to Dr Pepper.

Yeah--I said it.  Just because it's from Texas doesn't mean it's superior.  Or even good.  Actually, many of the things we've come to conclude are "great" just because they're from Texas are, in fact, barely adequate (see, e.g., Blue Bell, Whataburger, Southwest Airlines).

I came to this realization yesterday at the AMC movie theater, which is one of the few places where you get Mr. Pibb because Coca-Cola has a stranglehold on the pouring rights there.  But the cherry vanilla Mr. Pibb is fucking sublime.

SWA under Herb was fucking awesome.  It's been on a steady decline since the day he left the company.

Dr. Pepper is the King.

Blue Bell cannot be beat, despite their checkered ethical past and the fact they are lousy with Aggies. They still are the GOAT of ice cream to thine taste buds.

Whataburger openly sucks now.

Southwest Airlines has always sucked (I didn't fly it in the 60's or 70's when the stewardesses dressed like twin peaks girls).

Texas BBQ is superior to all other SEC bastion bbq (Carolina, Tennessee, etc.)

Unpopular opinion in Texas (but very popular here in Montana): shooting an animal you've been feeding from a deer feeder is not "hunting," and any sissy-ass douchebag who engages in it sure as shit ain't a hunter.

Everyone wishes that Texas didn't allow baiting deer, but it did. If Texas refused to allow baiting, it would require knowledge of deer and their habits to have success. However, the genie is out of the bottle. You can have 5k acres of the best deer habitat without feeders and if your neighbors who own 50 acres, share a fence line and feed corn and protein they will shoot your best deer.  This is a serious question, If I have 1500 low fenced acres with 6 feeders and I do not shoot animals at feeders am I still a douchebag? If I only hunt with a wooden recurve, without sights or pins, with a draw weight less than 60lbs and need deer to be within 20 yards for ethical shot, do you consider that douchebaggery? Is it OK if I hang a ladder stand or tripod on a well used trail? I would like to hear your thoughts.

I don't take issue with the conservation results.

It's just not "hunting."

I do like ice cream, particularly accompanied by a nice slice of pie, preferably hot pie like an apple or cherry fresh out of the oven.

And fuck Blue Bell. aggys and listeria... none for me.

Seriously. I don’t get the Texan patriotic fervor for Blue Bell. They made people sick, covered it up, and killed other people. Screw them.

Technically blue bell is the one that makes you shit all over

There is a Blue Bell plant south of Tulsa. I still prefer Braums. Both use corn syrup though, I have an ice cream maker and like to make my own.

A nice grilled piece of Mahi mahi is better than a sirloin

Agreed. Sirloin is not a premium cut.

But a reverse-seared ribeye, strip, or filet is amazing. As is a great piece of Mahi Mahi. Not better, just on the same level.

Yep. That’s why I said sirloin.    Not ready to declare mahi over ribeye, strip, freelet mignon
