Kiffin has always reminded me of another guy that desperate people would call upon to fix a short term problem, and who will have a measure of immediate success, but who “doesn’t play well with others” and will ultimately cause more chaos than he is worth.

And now, in Baton Rouge . . .

It’s on Ole Miss if they didn’t have a contingency plan for this. I mean if you propose to a girl and she says “that sounds great but I still wanna look around and take my time  see who else is out there for me” you are an idiot if you don’t have a backup plan. The problem is everyone they might want is still in the CFP mix. And a rush hire ain’t smart. But they got in bed with a characterless mercenary. He may have coaching chops but he’s a fucking asshole. And you get what you pay for.

He’s either gonna wind up either winning an MNC at LSU in two years or never winning the big one and winding up face down in a swamp in 3 years. 🍿

Are you revealing information about your methods that should probably be kept a secret?

Swamp is a weird name for an LSU coed but I guess it *is* Louisiana

It’s a dumb move. You have just as good of a chance to win at Ole Miss and the pressure is much lower. Baron Rogue isn’t exactly an awesome place to live either.

I can't disagree but my view is a variation on yours. I see him more like the philanering husband/wife who parties a bit too much and doesn't get along well with the in-laws. Yet, despite knowing all that some future husband/wife marries them with the "they've changed" mantra. Or... maybe I'm just projecting based on Texas' HC. I dunno.

It’s a shit-hole.  Absolute shit-hole.

I’d live in Mandeville or Hammond & commute in.

I actually fully agree withe RBG and Immamacs projection potential of Lane at Texas and think it's true for LSU. He could be getting the Tarmac treatment in year 2 or 3, or could go on to win 7 national championships. It's a high risk high reward choice and I really can't think of a better suited school than LSU save perhaps the hot mess that is Auburn.

We’re the same board that shit ourselves when Urban Meyer was a serious prospect several years ago. We only dislike assholes when they’re not on our side.

Of course, none of these arguments ever acknowledge all of this was done pre-NIL.

When everyone can pay players the red stick isn’t such a great destination imo.

True. But urban has one thing Sark and Kiffin do NOT have as a HC: MNCs. Period. I am willing to overlook fuckery with a contingency plan in their contracts if they have actually won a MNC as a HC. I am not when they have not. That simple to me. Neither Kiffin nor Sark have an MNC as a HC and until they do they are just a good to great hire. And the off the field shit better not mess up the on field shit and cause losses.

That state is batshit crazy.  Look at the governor cutting off the AD’s balls in the middle of this mess.  Lane could get fired then they declare bankruptcy (office style) to not pay his ass the remaining guaranteed money.  He’s a lunatic/idiot for taking this on.

He will do something stupid like going for it on 4th and 4 from his own 25 at a key moment in an important game. And his defense will be ass despite all the homegrown talent in Louisiana. He should have stayed. He’s 50 he ain’t changing

Oh, we are in agreement. The cluster fuck that is LSU extends to the entire state which could very reasonably and accurately be described at GTA 6 Vice State. Chicago likes to give that region a run on graft, but we all know the real winner.

What if his plan is to get an MNC there (heck the weirdo Miles and Coach Ogre won there) and take over the job at Bama that he wasn’t ready for when Bama opening came available. I do not think he intends to stay. But he’s crazy on some level. Baton Rouge and all that fuckery and having Coach O as a fucking wingman is not exactly a healthy place to continue sobriety.  But if he grinds it out with that money and a talent rich environment and gets his MNC he will be attractive to Bama if DeBoer can’t get shit done. It’s a gamble but also Saban’s lineage is in tact. Just sayin’ and I am making a massive leap of faith”logic” here that this is Kiffin’s ultimate plan. Who the fuck knows?

I can agree with your broader take on the board, but I've gone on record multiple times saying I never wanted Lane at Texas. Caught a good amount of grief for it, and I personally find LSU's gamble on Lane a bit of a relief.

He wouldn't be the first fired coach at LSU to have to sue for his compensation.   If it keeps going as it has, there will be a class action suit against Bayou Kitty.

I think Lane was probably just incentivized to go to LSU by the prospect of trolling Mardi Gras with coach Cajun.

I wouldn’t have hired him. And especially since it was Winston. And also not with that contract. Urban  won two different places. Florida ain’t been the same since. People talk about Mack leaving the cupboard bare here. And his fucking shit up. I wonder how people here would feel if a HC did what Kiffin will do (poach players and staff) or what Lincoln did. Grant you we are still the best destination imo. But still would people still swing from Kiffin’s or Sark’s ballsacks if they left us for LSU or Bama and took our staff and players? I hope not.

I am pulling for his success based on nothing more than the recent documentary that stated he’s quit drinking and is trying to get his shit together. But I also agree with those that don’t understand the move to LSU and Louisiana politics.

UT is gonna play LSU twice every 4 years, moving forward, so those games will be potentially harder with him as HC. Outside of our games, IDGAF how LSU does. Kiffin beating aggy annually will make me smile, though.

No argument on pulling for the success of any recovering alcoholic or addict, that should be across the board for everyone. Is Baton Rouge really the best place for that? Maybe? Around Coach O his former well known partner in crime and poon hound. LSU is corrupt but they want wins. And will want them in short order. I worry about that environment. That place is a party 🎉 on wheels. Hope it doesn’t derail what he has achieved. It has the makings of a BIG WIN or an epic mess.

In this new era I don’t know that any of the blue bloods are the best destination.  All totally irrational standards and even tOSU had Day on the hot seat and they’re so nuts many I know here in Chicago were ready to boo the fuck out of him and put him right back on the stovetop, with their disgusting spaghetti chili, for losing to UM again.

Cignetti has the right idea imo.  Especially if the word about Cuban funding their NIL is true.  I would love to see them supplant ND even if it’s just for a few years.

All this reminds me I need to get back to miami.  Freezing my balls off in the middle of B10 country.

Kiffin at Florida would have been a huge problem. Does LSU have the money to play in the big leagues on a sustained basis? Although I was pretty surprised Ole Miss seemed to have the funds.

The "threat" part of this article is laughable.

Kiffin is gonna take whatever players and coaches are willing to join him in Baton Rouge. He's not in a position to demand anything once he resigns. "Let me finish the season, or I'm gonna poach your roster". The dialogue was probably more like Kiffin begging to stay on thru the playoff.

Ole Miss is justified in sending him packing now. He's leaving for a SEC rival for crissakes. It's not the same as Eric Morris staying on at UNT, but I wouldn't blame the Mean Green for telling him to get fucked, too.

Agreed. I mean Kiffin’s one loss this year was to JawJa. Can he beat JawJa at LSU is the question. Getting outcoached is getting outcoached. If Ole Miss could match the funds why leave? That means they can pay for players. I just wonder if he can outcoach the best. He has talent on the field. His defenses have always been the issue. How does that change?

When I was at a well known software company and top sales guys left for a rival they were escorted out by security. Grab your keys and will box up the rest of your shit and you can come pick it up tomorrow at the front desk type of stuff.

I agree. I was just talking about Urban Meyer specifically. He’s won MNCs. At two places. I was willing to overlook his fuckery for a chance at a second title in my lifetime. So I guess I am corrupt to a degree.

sarkisian and Kiffin have been a HC at all their stops 12 years and 11 years respectively. 23 years and their only MNCs have come from being the OC under a dynasty coached by Saban. Not saying that people should not take a chance on them. It’s just for me the proof is in the pudding that it’s more likely than not they cannot win a MNC as a HC. Doesn’t mean neither of them won’t…I just don’t see it like many here do. And if I am wrong, that’s great for us if Sark gets over the hump. I don’t care what Kiffin does outside of rooting for his sobriety.

What if they took a swing at Georgia Tech’s HC? That guy has done more with less than about almost anyone. IMO. He knows how to coach. Has gone toe to toe with some good teams. Just doesn’t have the personnel and Haynes King deserves a trip to the NYC for the Heisman for his efforts the past two years. That’s hero ball.
