The plot armor on some of the characters is so strong.

Winona Ryder --> gently tossed to the side in slow-motion, totally fine a few seconds later

Non-important soldier --> spikes through face, dies immediately and gruesomely

Her blue steel look anytime the camera lingers on her face takes us out of the show. It's amusing that sure these kids have grown into adults but she's the one that feels like she's an alien now compared to the rest.

I still don’t understand why she remained in the wetsuit for the duration of the show, after she was done with the tub.

I mean she is an alien compared to the rest

2 hour finale as a movie and it was only $10 with my Alamo season pass. Will be fun to watch it with a bunch of other fans

We're about to be running up that hill

Watching the finale at grapevine mills. It’s crazy packed

We really enjoyed the ending. Hit the feels just right. Those kids were babies when this started. Makes you feel old. It wasn't always the best but it was one hell of a ride.

Very emotional ending and good wrap up to the series. One of the more well done finales

So does graduating high school in 1988.

DUFFER: It’s not Game of Thrones. We’re not in Westeros. I love Game of Thrones, but it’s just a very different type of show than that. There’s not going to be a Red Wedding situation. I think some things happen in the finale that are very surprising, but we’re not trying to shock or upset anyone. I hope by the time people get to the end of the finale that it just feels like there’s something inevitable about what happens, and that it doesn’t feel painful but feels satisfying.

Jamie Lee Bower deserves an award. He nailed his performance in season 5. In the final episodes he looked downright sinister at times. The Derek kid nailed his role as well, he had zero acting experience (appeared in a quick commercial) prior to being on stranger things.

Great ending. Sad the rides over.

It was a perfect ending

Agreed.

For all its faults, it was a very good show that weaved 80s nostalgia into the show that was a trip down memory lane for many of us. The fact that so many people are monday morning quarterbacking the finale and season 5 in general demonstrates how much the audience is invested in the show. Perhaps the show was a victim of its own success as Season 1 was downright magical and set the bar so high as it would be almost impossible to reach again.

Not sure if we'll see another show like this anytime soon.

I liked how the younger sister and group took over playing dnd at the end. A hope for the next generation passing the torch.

I don’t think they’ll do another one, but I’ve wondered what a 90s themed Stranger Things nostalgia would look like. The horror vibe of the first 2 seasons is what hooked me. I don’t feel the same connection to 90s horror. I feel like 90s would need to be sci-fi.

For all its faults

Dustin’s speech nailed it - there was good and bad, but more good than bad

This was a show that became a bonding experience with my two kids. It started so simple with just enjoying the show and answering their questions about being a kid in the 80s. It developed to us genuinely loving the characters and plenty of theory conversations and impatiently waiting for the next season. One of the best family trips we have taken was to Atlanta to see the filming locations and take hundreds of photos and recreations.

It hit me different when it all ended last night. My kids are teens now and aged out of some of the joys of youth of innocence. It made me sad knowing I have one less activity they still enjoy doing with their dad.

Dustin and Steve’s FOR EDDIE! Followed by Dustin doing what Eddie was gonna do at graduation was chef’s kiss

There's a lot of humble pie waiting for smartass posters over the last few pages. Come collect

What a fun ride. I'm gonna miss my boy Eddie the most. Billy and dumbfuck Derek are close. An absolute experience, the music was great, the characters were great. There were ups and downs, but damn I'm gonna miss it.

Also, final episode showed the absolute GOAT of lawn chairs. So many iterations since this bad boy, but none will ever top it

Season 2 is what Dustin meant by chaotic bad. That episode specifically

Yeah but season 2 brought Sadie Sink which might be the greatest overall contribution this series gives to both TV and film industry. She's about to be the next big thing for the MCU.

I mean there's a lot about the finale that was a little eye-rolling like Rambo Nancy and I swear with their hairstyle choice for her that felt exactly like what they were going for with her character. But overall it did exactly what it needed to do and the final 15 minutes are up there with lots of great finales that really stuck the landing and reminded you why you loved the show to begin with.

This is pretty cool and a nice gesture by Netflix before they destroy the theatrical model in a few years.

They (Netflix and others, maybe Apple) should consider putting big series finales in theaters. Limited runs (1 or 2 day) and theaters.

I’m sure it was unintentional but I LOL’d at this. Will
moved to Milwaukee for college and his first gay hookup is with Jeffrey Dahmer.

Guess I’m in the minority in thinking that the finale was just ok. It was all very predictable and the last 45m or so of emotional monologue stuff dragged. I also don’t like how they left things with El’s story. We really didn’t get any surprise twists n the end game, they went with a very safe ending which is whatever. My kids are huge ST fans and they were also underwhelmed.

Is this edited? I remember Will’s friend had brown hair and sat down.

Some glancing thoughts:

  • I liked the older kids having separate and distinct farewell. They’re in very different phases of life than the younger kids. Bringing them all together wouldn’t have worked well. That said, it’s 600 miles from Indiana to Philly. The monthly meet up is never going to happen.

  • D&D final scene was perfect. No notes. Very on brand for the gang to play D&D instead of drinking and chasing girls at a graduation party.

  • I’m glad they killed Vecna relatively early and spent the finale back half on the kids living their lives. This was always the most interesting part of the show.

We liked the finale. I thought it was a good soft landing that left it open to interpretation.

Spoiler

Was it real or just their D&D game?

The first and last scenes in the series were the kids playing D&D. Were those the only two “real life” scenes?

The way they wrapped up every character arc, they did everything separately from the core kid group, as if they are characters. The credits at the end: the drawings of the characters were together with their D&D profiles. I think it was a good way to leave it open to interpretation without pissing off an entire group of fans by saying that everything we just watched was their D&D game.

Anyway, there is more but I liked that it was open-ended so to speak.

It happened. And it’s a retelling by adult Mike as a D&D storyline (in my head)

It's Stand By Me. They show Mike typing out the story when he talks about himself.

It looks like there will be two spinoffs. One will be an animated show with the current characters that takes place between seasons 2 & 3. The second show will be live action and be about the origin of the briefcase with no characters returning.

I think they dropped the first trailer for the animated show right before season 5. Looked to be a brighter, maybe less "scary" thing.

I remember not liking season 2 much, but the show took so damned long that our once small children aged in to the show, and we rewatched the series with them to catch up for S5. S2 on the rewatch I really very much enjoyed.
