The GOP base only wants the worst of the worst. So can he show that he is a bigger piece of shit than Trump over the next few years? It’s going to be tough, but I think he will be able to do it.

If he somehow gets the nomination instead of Trump, that means he's George Soros-funded libtard!

To be clear, we will be even more fucked as a country if Desantis is the president. That also needs to be metioned.
I know you are in education. But people who have to make payroll, every week/bi-weekly feel different.

So I'm curious, Brothahorn, since this is the thread that brought you back to our little Cabal echo chamber (that's for you, Icono), what exactly is it about Meatball Ron that you think is so great?

Everything Trump did wasn't bad or crazy. But he was too emotional. With DeSantis, you get similar Trump policies along with an articulated response to why he did what the did. 8 years of a chickenshit racist, who happens to be an Ice Cream cone is not acceptable. And his VP is a mush mouth.

But, I'm just browsing while the kids are playing. Don't worry, I'll let the Surly Cabal have their circle jerk back in a few.

Should I start with banning books? Or are you more of an anti-trans/homophobe? Or if that's too embarrassing, we can knock out Desantis using his political office to punish companies who speak out against him or push back on his policies?

Hell we can even dive into his latest legislation to dumb down Florida education. Your call.

What kind of books were banned?  Give me some specifics. I'm not anti-anything. But some shit needs to be age appropriate.

BTW, I love you too, @PenelopeWitherspoon. Our differences are what brings us together.

Sorry you live under a rock.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two years into a surge of book bans across the United States, Florida is a hot spot in the clash over what reading material is appropriate for children, with laws that have greatly expanded the state’s ability to restrict books.

Historically, books were challenged one at a time. As bans in schools and libraries began increasing nationally in 2021, efforts were largely local, led by a parent or a group. But over the past year, access to books, particularly those touching on race, gender or sexual orientation, became increasingly politicized. With that came an increase in legislation and regulations in some states and school districts that affected which books libraries could offer.

The shift is particularly evident in Florida, where Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican-controlled Legislature and a rapidly growing network of conservative groups aligned to pass three state laws last year aimed, at least in part, at reading or educational materials. Among the books removed from circulation in one of the state’s school districts are Toni Morrison’s “Beloved,” and Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Proponents of the restrictions say their aims are to protect students from inappropriate materials and to give parents more control over their children’s education. In focusing on “parents’ rights,” Mr. DeSantis is trying to build on the popularity he amassed when he resisted Covid-19 restrictions, particularly in schools. The push is a signature part of the conservatism he is showcasing in Florida. His Parental Rights in Education law, for example, constrains instruction on gender and sexuality, which has led some districts to remove books with L.G.B.T.Q. characters.

Some teachers and librarians say the policies are vague, with imprecise language and broad requirements, leading to some confusion. But they are trying to comply. Violation of the law could be a third-degree felony; in general, such crimes are punishable by up to five years in prison

In January, when the new guidelines went into effect, some teachers removed or covered up books that had not been vetted by certified media specialists, whose approval is now legally required. Others are not ordering titles that could draw complaints. Some educators emptied shelves or pulled collections until the titles could be reassessed.

He may not be as emotional as Trump but he's just as sloppy. His broadly worded legislation seems to have a lot of unintended consequences and causes things pulling inoffensive books because librarians are scared to get in trouble. And his constant need to get credit for fighting "woke Disney" gave Disney all the ammo they needed for their lawsuits. The guy vomits out incriminations of himself in almost every interview he gives. He wrote a damn chapter in his book that Disney is now using as evidence in their Federal lawsuit against him.

So what specifically has he done in Florida that makes you think he'll be a good choice?

If this is what you mean, then I'm with DeSantis. Depending on my child's age, he/she is not ready for that. That's what parents are for.

I understand the war with Disney, because they got a little too mouthy. But both sides need to sit down and work it out. Disney does not want to leave Florida and Florida does not want Disney to leave. Be adults on both sides. Instead of going to Japan or Iowa, stay home and talk to Disney.

Oh it's defensible for people who think "woke companies" must pay for daring to speak or do anything related to LGBTQ+ people. Boycotts don't work so you have to take them over like he did. Disney shouldn't have the right to say anything because they're "groomers".

Yes but your boy doesn't believe in compromise. He only believes in winning. And that's why he will lose. Disney can't leave Florida because they have too much sunk into the state. But they can certainly not invest in it any further. It's not like their parks are hurting. They already cancelled their billion dollar relocation. Why invest in a state that wants to put a culture warrior who thinks you're "groomers" in charge of things where she can have a say in what entertainment offerings you can do? And yes, the dumb bitch he put on the board who is a part of Moms for Liberty said exactly that. She wants to control what Disney does for entertainment. Your boy said the same. But it's cool because Disney got a little too mouthy?

Well desantis is okay with ruining higher ed, which could put me out of a job. Is that okay with you? I as a higher ed superviser have to make payroll as well, including budgeting for an entire division consisting of 7 disciplines.

desantis is getting rid of dei in higher ed, which diversity and equity have an direct influence on learning, understanding, and experiences in a.) life and b.) the educational journey. Why should that be banned? Why shouldn't someone in high school be able to read about being gay or what gays go through? Why is high school--fucking high school--too "innappropriate" for that?

You're for desantisis, and that's fine. You should also be communicating you are for indoctrinating schools/colleges with the conservatives ideology as that is clearly and explicitly what desantis (and devos) are doing.

calling biden a racist as a Black man is just hilarious for you. i'm not sure if candiace ownes or ben shapiro idoctirnated that line of thinking on you or what.

Man, I understand that we will never be on the same page(thankfully) in politics. But if you don't understand how Biden is a chickenshit racist, then you really are a soft-serve ice cream negro. This clown wrote and proudly admitted to two of the most detrimental crime bills in America. They were not just locking up criminals, they were locking up regular black people! Fucking up families! The effects are still being felt today. That's not what the communities asked for at all. How the F do you excuse that?  How the F do you excuse his fight against integration? Something his own VP called him out for? Before she bent the knee. I don't care how many tokens or half-assed apologies he threw out the damage was done.
