The way Lee is portrayed here is a complete 180 from in The Dirt, the Crue biography movie on Netflix. In The Dirt, he’s a good natured doofus. In this, he’s a megalomaniac. I guess the truth is probably somewhere in between.

the dirt was "written by" the band, wasn't it?  this seems like it was from the perspective of rogen's character, though i'm not familiar with the source material (article).

i wouldn't expect anything from the dirt to be that accurate or overly negative about the band.

The Dirt does not portray the band in a good light.  It portrays them in all the light. Good, bad, ugly.  It’s probably one of the best rock biopics ever done.  Because Crue thrived on chaos, I don’t think they blocked much going in the book.

The only person who comes out half decent is Mick Mars.  The rest were total degenerates.

I'm shocked any streaming site still releases all at once when stretching shows out keeps people who only subscribe for 1 or 2 shows on the hook longer than a single month.

Netflix does bc they pump out a lot (of shit) so you feel like it’s hard to unsubscribe. Hulu and Disney and Apple release less so they can spread it out and maintain subscribers.

i'm enjoying the shit out of this so far.

agreed that the rogan/offerman storyline is more entertaining right now and i'm not sure it's close.

the devolving chain of porn company pitch meetings was great.

Offerman is fantastic.

Saw the highlights of the sex scenes. Jesus Christ!

If the moral of the story was about the consequences of invasion of privacy, then they recreate all of that for our entertainment pleasure, without their permission, then they failed miserably because they are part of the story now.

Its like Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge - a movie about a pacifist in World War 2, which was a movie that also glorified battle scenes with war porn. Conflicting messages.

What a load of crap.  The movie tells the story in context.  It shows, quite effectively, what Doss went through and survived in order to stick to his principles.  The movie did not send conflicting messages, the conflict was the story.

The battle scenes could have been straight out of Tropic Thunder. I think I saw 2-3 trampolines where dudes jumped like storm troopers after bombs exploded. Battle scenes looking cool with CGI, and dramatic music, sell tickets and save money for the studio. But they’re not successful in demonstrating the horrors of violence, especially when the main protagonist is a pacifist. Its like whats his problem? I thought he was a pussy until he saved all those soldiers.

Had Gibson searched his own resume, he could have watched Gallipoli. When you watch that movie, you’re like, “no fuckin way!”

Getting back to Pam Anderson. The premise of the movie is that she was exploited in the 90’s and had her privacy violated. But, now she’s being exploited again with this movie, recreating and lampooning and sexualizing her likeness. I havent watched the movie, so I dont know the full context. Is this wrong?

To my knowledge, she hasn't said how she feels about this show telling her story.  Lake Bell says it's giving her a voice at a time (the 90s) when there was no voice given.

But I have seen some people (Is Hulu’s ‘Pam & Tommy’ Exploiting Pamela Anderson All Over Again? | Vanity Fair) saying exactly what you're saying - if she's not involved in any way, isn't this just exploiting her all over again?

It's different than American Crime Story: Impeachment, because Monica Lewinsky was heavily involved as a co-producer.

It really comes down to the idea of biopics of contemporary figures. They can be done, but the degree of difficulty gets higher without the parties cooperation.

Imagine them recreating the Monica cigar scenes and having an actress smear CGI semen off her face, partly as a goof. Thats kind of the vibe I saw in the Pam/Tommy Lee clip.
