Texas Governor's Race 2022

When these people bitch about the Sexual Revolution, is there something they did to fight it?

And what part of the Sexual Revolution did they have a problem with?  Was it the gays?  Was it sex outside of marriage?  Was it mixing of the races - hobbits and humans for instance?

I've done a lot of genealogy research over the years, and you do not have to go very through somebody's family tree before you find birth and marriage dates that imply a little something-something was going on well before marriage.  It could get really bad in Colonial America, and plenty of marriages happened around the time the bride would have known she was pregnant.

And while they may have had separate beds for the TV show, you know Ward was giving it to the beaver a lot.

Plus, is he on a hobbit calendar or something?  Like where their years take twice as long to complete as ours do?  The Sexual Revolution was not 30 years ago.  I mean, my own personal sexual revolution was happening 30 years ago...as in fingering chicks at church retreats and pleading for handjobs.  But the sexual revolution/ERA/decriminalizing most sexual behavior deemed deviant to that point---that all happened way before 30 years ago.  1991 was not the high watermark of sexual revolutions.

And even if it were, how the fuck is sexual normalization 30 years ago responsible for illegal border crossings today?  I've seen some leaps in logic when it comes to the immigration debate, but   a partially and poorly built wall makes more sense that decriminalizing same-sex activities when it comes to border crises.

Partial transcript, holy fucking shit @Brisketexan if he won, better widen your ledge.  Also, obsession with children's gender.

"In a Huffines administraiton, I'm putting God back in every classroom of Texas.  I'm not worried about lawsuits.  I'm not worried about the federal government.  I'd like to see them put the prayer police in every government school we have, because even then, I don't care.  We are going to put God back in our classrooms.  And the governor, let me just say this, the governor is in charge of our culture."

Talking about appointments, "The most important is I get to appoint the board of regents of every university and college in the state of Texas that gets state money......That's where the poison starts with our education system because every teacher has got to get certified in these universities and they're all being certified by socialists and communists and they go down and then poison it all the way downstream to our high schools in our junior highs and gender modification and everything else, CRT, that we're experiencing so the whole thing to change our culture in Texas starts with leadership at the very top, the governor's office..."

"Imagine if the board of regents were dominated and controlled by real patriots, people that believed in the exceptionalism, America, and Texas and the free market"

This guy is a pure d lunatic

I think his current plan is his best path to upsetting Abbott.  Run a respectable second place behind Abbott in the primaries with the West and the other guy finishing 3rd/4th.  Then aggregate those factions against Abbott in a runoff where Abbott is forced to return slightly more moderate again to collect his base (Abbott's going hard to the paint on the fringe right now but he'll have to concede some of that in a runoff and go back to his establishment GOP group).  Runoff like that favors Huffines.  Even if it doesn't, Don can still get the sigs and go third party for the general and truly scorch the Earth.

I would love for a Republican to try and shove a Baptist version of Christianity (Huffines calls himself a "conservative Christian" so I'm assuming Baptist) down the throats of all Texas school kids, just to see how that would go over with the Catholics and non-Baptists.

That would be a good FAFO moment.

I always ask what kind of Christian are you? Jesus kind or the Republican kind?

Holy fuck, he will not stop trying to make Gonzalez out to be something it wasn't and that he was corrected on.   Motherfucker can't be wrong - he's still trying to push Gonzales as the birthplace, even pushed that stupid fucking YouTube video again.  The intern could have went in and edited the YouTube description, and he could have added a clarification, but nope, he can never be wrong.

His follower growth has slowed down (and West's is non-existent), but I keep thinking he's going to goad Abbott into doing something even nuttier.
We really need to goad Huffines into running 3rd party.

This. I’m becoming convinced that he’s enough of an unhinged maniacal fool to do it.

I think so as well.  He's obsessed with taking down Abbott.  Makes me wonder if there is more going on, whether it's UT-related or whatever.  On some level he knows his dreams of ditching property taxes and replacing them with sales and income taxes will never happen.

Hell, he keeps attacking Texas-based businesses.  That's not the mark of a man wanting to play along with the party, given how much those companies donate to Texas politicians.

@Lobo or whoever may know more, but given how much Huffines has obsessed over the Board of Regents, makes me wonder if he was passed over by Abbott or something.

I think you’re on to something with the obsession angle. Figure out whatever his Precioussssses is and maybe you can figure out how to neutralize him, make him disappear, or use him to defeat  Abbott.

His brother, James, was the Chair of the Board of the Regents (on two occasions) for about 4 years.  Maybe it was "I was passed over, I'm smart.  Not dumb like everybody says, smart." Freddo situation.  James has been largely silent about all this shit with his brother.  Probably because of his loyalty to establishment GOP'ers in Perry and Abbott.  James' wife, Patty, is also the Texas-Exes Board President this year and while that's a largely symbolic post, politicians have felt the fundraising wrath before of when UT alumni get pissed off and take sides (Perry got hit hard on fundraising when he pulled his anti-UT shit back in 2014).  And Texas-Exes are the advocacy wing of the University (which cannot engage in lobbying or anything political really other than "information").  So Exes have to play nice with Abbott right now, but I get the impression she and James think Don is pulling some shit right now.

Anyway, to answer your question...I don't think he was really ever in the mix...Abbott had the roster of Regents built as soon as he took office and he's followed the draft/callups to the letter almost with only 1 or 2 surprises in 6+ years.  The only two Regents I've talked politics with since Covid-19 hit, both think Don Huffines is fucking insane, up to something else entirely, and are waiting for the other shoe to drop to see what he starts saying about UT/higher ed.  The Santa Rita awards dinner is being held next week (it's held less often than the Olympics) by the Regents and UT System.  I suspect this Don Huffines/Abbott shit will be the talk of the evening.  It's closed to the media and a 2-hour cocktail hour before the dinner/speeches so I'm guessing there'll be some loose lips.

I’d like to subscribe to this newsletter.

Also, when Perry was governor, I helped a reporter track down the $250,000 contributions made four times (one per quarter) to Texans for Rick Perry by a person later coincidentally named to the A&M board of regents. Has the price gone up?

That little interview he gave a few days ago where he mentioned putting in certain type of regents to influence the universities, which eventually influences the graduating education majors, who are the future teachers for K-12, etc. was pretty interesting.  He clearly thinks all colleges in Texas are infected with Communism/Marxism/socialism.

But then I go back to that's just him throwing red meat to MAGA and while we are focusing on him flinging his shit around in his cage, we are ignoring the fact that he's using that same feces to draw pictures of Abbott on the floor of the cage.

@Mrs Whiggins and Eartha have not been seen in the same room. She is Catwoman confirmed.

Honey, honey, honey, if I could sing like that I'd not be on the Surl.

I'd have on my lil old green sequined dress with the slit up to here  ⬆️ and the neckline down to there ⬇️  and be having the time of my life from coast to coast. C'est Si Bon.

@atomheartbevocalls Huffines a Mogwai, but I like to call him Smeagol  because the man seems obsessed as if under a spell.

I don't know, we've had weird things happen on here, and at some point I'd figure an old starlet could have made their way here.

Mogwai wouldn't work, he's been seen under brights lights.

But you've never seen him eat after midnight (he looks like an early to bed, early to rise kinda guy).  And Don Huffines is never seen swimming or even drinking water, but he does, however, always look moist.  So yeah, it's a mixed checklist for Mogwai.  And he's not quite gargoyle looking enough to be the "My Precious" troll from "Lord of the Rings."

I'm now thinking that he looks like Chris Kattan took up a meth habit in mid-life, but then got clean at the end, got dressed up, and ran for Governor in his later years.

But I also feel like if you looked into a mirror in the dark and said the word "Moist" 7 times, he'd appear and tell you about his plans for Texas.

He could be moist from the bright lights above him that radiate heat. I would say that you have to repeat "Huffines has it" for him to do such a thing.

I'm younger than Michelle Pfieffer and Halle Berry but I have no acting chops either so if I'm going to be a starlet, I'm going to go with a younger version of Rene Russo like  in the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair.

However, if you went strictly off of my user name, I can see where you'd get the idea.

He's got the look and size of a Mogwai, and if elected Governor, he'd act like a Gremlin and try to destroy everything.

But there is a Smeagol-like obsession with Abbott.

He has gotten national attention outside of Fox News:

So I look at his twitter, because it's easy and can be copied/pasted in seconds.

But his Facebook game is decent - 63,000 followers, and lots of engagement - his target audience is clearly there.

https://www.facebook.com/Donhuffinestx

His appearance on Tucker a week generated well over a thousand comments and almost 4,000 likes/shares/etc. and that's just the official post - I've seen that clip shared plenty of times.

That doesn't seem like much, but if Huffines is reaching the olds (who will show up and vote) and the others for whom things like illegals crossing the border is scary, then it paints a better picture of what Abbott fears.  And plenty of people don't follow candidates or like their posts because they don't want their options known, but they still seek that stuff out and nod their heads in agreement.

Huffines just needs to continue to lean on his Trump connections.

"Whatever it takes."

Those are some strong words Mr. Huffines.

You going to spend a lot of money? You said you're cutting property taxes, right?

What's that money going to be spent upon? People to secure the border? A wall? Land mines?

Are you going to shoot to kill desperate men, women, and children? Use drones?

What's it going to be Mr. Huffines? Are you running for Governor or King of Texas?
