I think there is something else nefarious behind Huffines's property tax issue.   A significant amount of those taxes fund education.  Remember which party consistently tries to either gut public education, return us to the days where creationism is the scientific basis for life and bring God (*the Christian one) back into the classroom.  Suburban and rural (at least the kind he's appealing to) districts see those kind of things as "good".    The suburban families might get a carrot tossed their way with vouchers for private/religious schools (how this is paid, who knows) and the rural God-fearing  voters might get that horrible evolution and "science" out of the classroom.

And if we do gut property taxes, guess which districts will still be able to fund the programs like sports and performing arts?   It won't be poor or minority districts.

The Texas Declaration of Independence specifically cited lack of public education as one of the reasons for leaving Mexico. Not that our local brand of dummies ever admit to what secession declarations actually said.

Quote

(Mexico) has failed to establish any public system of education, although possessed of almost boundless resources, (the public domain,) and although it is an axiom in political science, that unless a people are educated and enlightened, it is idle to expect the continuance of civil liberty, or the capacity for self government.

If I understand what he keeps touting, it's this:

Quote

Sec. 10. RIGHTS OF ACCUSED IN CRIMINAL PROSECUTIONS. In all criminal prosecutions the accused shall have a speedy public trial by an impartial jury. He shall have the right to demand the nature and cause of the accusation against him, and to have a copy thereof. He shall not be compelled to give evidence against himself, and shall have the right of being heard by himself or counsel, or both, shall be confronted by the witnesses against him and shall have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, except that when the witness resides out of the State and the offense charged is a violation of any of the anti-trust laws of this State, the defendant and the State shall have the right to produce and have the evidence admitted by deposition, under such rules and laws as the Legislature may hereafter provide; and no person shall be held to answer for a criminal offense, unless on an indictment of a grand jury, except in cases in which the punishment is by fine or imprisonment, otherwise than in the penitentiary, in cases of impeachment, and in cases arising in the army or navy, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger.

(Amended Nov. 5, 1918.)

no, it's definitely the US constitution:

he's going to use the prohibition on grants of nobility to secure the border.  somehow.

He believes that the article’s prohibition on states engaging in war “unless actually invaded” means Texas can….go to war against….not sure who, but we can definitely launch airstrikes and shit.

This presupposes an insane definition of “invaded,” of course. There is no govt doing so. The people coming aren’t waging war. Illegal immigration is not an invasion. And an injunction in federal court against any such action by Texas would be granted.

Huffines may give Hotwheels some competition as he has to be making Trump really happy with his bullshit tweets that are copied from Trump's proclamations. I can see Trump endorsing him.

I hope the Huffines/Trumpsters voters in the Republican primary if/when Abbott wins stay home in the general.

If one comes forward, they'll undoubtedly get support from the likes of Icono...uhhh... @Macklemore and his Tucker-loving brethren.

Why do you fucking call me out like this? I don’t participate in the CR cesspool so don’t try to get me to chime in. I will leave you to enjoy the echo chamber with your ilk. Finally, and for the millionth time so you can hear it clearly, I’m not Icono. I don’t have to self-ban myself to not participate here. Unlike that freak, I have self control, am not an addict, don’t do meth and fuck dudes, etc. Also, I don’t have a moronic posting history, I hate the Texans and mock them endlessly and finally I am not a UH homer. Are those enough differences for you?

So we're going to war against Haiti, Afghanistan, Mexico, and Central and South America?

Our 20,000 Texas National Guard soldiers better start making arrangements, because they are going to be deployed for a long time.

Sure you have. It’s how your home was built for less than $400/sq ft. Why you don’t pay $9 for a head of iceberg lettuce. Why you had dinner on clean dishes at the Chili’s at 45th and Lamar. Many unnoticed daily conveniences are because of illegal immigrants.

This.  People don't understand how our economy works.  Nothing new.

Why not bring back smoking in flight Don?   Since we’re all about personal liberties.

the constitution is very clear on the rights of people to work on man made flight vessels.

Kids dying of polio and the measles again is the end result of this insanity over vaccines.

Oh, trust me. We’ll get there. We’re going full retrograde. We’ll be banning all medical treatment but bleeding and leeches in a few years. And making it legal for husbands to kill their wives. Shit like that.

Huffines is still talking about Article 1, Section 10

Man, running as a Republican in the state of Texas is so easy. Just use the same old messages over and over again and you’ll find enough brainless idiots to vote for you to win. Over and over. It even works on other Republicans already in office. Just say they’re not conservative enough. Just check those boxes: abortion, socialism, immigration, guns, religion,  taxes, and now voter fraud and not Trumpian enough. I’m starting to believe there will never be a Dem in a major office in Texas again.
