On the drive down from Dallas today I listened to On Texas Football and Fat Ketch post games and Fat Ketch said something that is worse then what I thought happend. Last night I was talking about how Mackovic practiced roll left until it was perfect in case he needed it. I mentioned that Sark did nothing of the sort only to have Ketch say there is no way the sequence of plays that Sark called were not the best two plays in his bag and he probably had the team practice them repeatedly in case they found themselves on 1st and goal from the one.

Geoff Ketchum is a stupid, fat fuck.

I think Sarkisian has done a really good job making hires. Jackson and Baker were outstanding additions. Poaching Nansen after Choate left to become a HC was really good!    He needs to fire his play caller and hire one. That is currently the weakest position on this staff.

I normally hate hypothetical conversations, but it’s the offseason so fuck it lets get it goin. Let’s say Sark does decide to give up play calling. Who do we think would be on the short list of candidates for that spot? Is there anyone out there that has crossed paths with Sark at some point that would be a homerun hire?

He led us to a great season, he has the machine running, and he can get us back to the promised land. He also struggles calling red zone plays and the toss play was fucking stupid as fuck. All those things can be true

Did us playing the sec championship game and OSU getting an off week make a difference?
Not sure but playing in the conference championship game and losing is the worst case scenario. Ohio State and Notre Dame ended up getting the same benefit we did with a home game in the first round and didn't need to play championship week to do it.

He will need to identify a candidate that has a system similar to his or identify a system that he likes as a HC. The candidates would depend on which route he chooses to go I believe.

Can you go further back to see who it may have been prior to Jimbo?

What about our QB coach? The guy with the crazy comb over. Milweh or something like that

Look, I’ve been pretty adamant that I don’t think he should give up playcalling. It’s his biggest value add and there zero guarantee handing that off makes him a better overall head coach.

The thought of him being able to do more game management is also kind of ironic because head coaches get most involved in stuff like short yardage, 4th down calls, important playcalls, etc, so if you are pissed at that stuff now is that going to change? It also creates the possibility of a revolving door of playcallers because what if the guy he picks leaves for another job in 2 years? Is he going to start doing it again? Trust someone else? What happens the first time the offense struggles?

With that said, I do acknowledge getting over the final hump is always the most difficult and often requires the biggest leap so I understand those that are wanting it. Maybe there is a middle ground where he can get an assistant, analyst or special assistant with an offensive playcalling background to get a different voice in the room and bring new ideas.

Eli Reinhart would be a homerun hire and also wouldnt necessarily be seen as stepping on Sark's toes. But we won't do that and in a few years he'll be someone else's hot young offensive coordinator

you don't have to worry.  He is never giving up playcalling.   OK, never say never but he is sober and at a blue blood destination stop for the first time, he is going to have to have a life altering epiphany to believe he can't win it all unless he gets a separate playcaller.

I just hope PK can keep the D rolling because that is what will win us an NC.  the shine is officially off Flood.

We were actually top 5 in the red zone in 2021. Too bad our defense sucked that year.

I can’t remember if it was last offseason or the one before but I think they explored adding several high school coaches to the support staff.

Excited for the Arch era to begin at Texas. Season ended about how I expected which is a great season but losing the last game always sucks.  I had come to the conclusion early in the year that this was not a NC team, especially on the offensive side.  They couldn’t just steamroll teams like 2005 for instance.  Felt like that would bite us at some point. Fun season #1 in the SEC. Feel like we gained a little respect from the hillbillies in the conference.  And stunted on aggy.

my only hope is that have a mobile qb who can also open up the deep threat will fix all the issues,

but if that is the case, it make this year feel like even more of a waste

🫠

Even if Arch comes in a crushes next year, it doesn’t mean he would have this year.  Another year learning the offense could be a massive factor. It won’t be apples to apples. But I also have the same hope that he fits Sark’s preferred scheme more than Ewers.

The greatest trick Sarkisian pulled was convincing the Texas fanbase that Arch Manning didn’t exist

this is damning to Sark and especially Flood.

You mean having an OL of veteran former 4 and 5 stars that can’t run block against our peers isn’t great?

i've drank a lot since then, was having a mobile casey as qb a red one difference maker?

He didn’t have that many rushing TD’s did he?

I would say having Bijan and Roschon covered up a lot. Although that doesn’t really explain the middle of the pack performance in 2022.

we had some older OL I think in 2021 right?

Bijan and Roschon covered up a lot of warts on our 2022 OL(it was not good) especially Bijan.

I know Herman had to go but also that 2020 team would have been 9-3 without Covid so the weren't chopped liver.

I would wonder about playcalling more than personnel. I imagine we were much simpler in the red zone with Casey and thus more successful. We get far too cute these days.

good thing oline recruiting since the initial pancake push has been mostly 3 stars it seems

OL really is the hardest to determine grades between 3 and 4 star.  sometimes the 5 star is obvious.

This is on Flood and our S&C to turn those guys into All Conf type players

yea having Bijan make 3 people miss in the backfield every other carry covered up a lot.

Yes on 2021 Ol.  They were pretty solid in the run game.  Angilau getting hurt in 2022 was big.  It threw that LG spot into chaos.

Well, Arch did pretty good during the chances he got. With more real playing time this year, like 5-10 snaps per game where he, ya know, passed the ball, we'd be in much better shape.

That's a FUPM sort of mistake.

Dumb. The post leaves out the outside receiver to make it look like he’s getting covered by 3 guys.
