Stopped at Reese Bros Barbecue in Thursday on the way to Baffin Bay.  Got there right at Noon and there were 4 people in line.

Brisket tacos, poblano mac and cheese, herbed slaw.  Everything was great.   Not shown - half pound each of brisket and carnitas and four tortillas.   Brisket tacos before heard out for a day of fishing is the way to go.

Swung by 2M Smokehouse on the way home, but the line at 11:00 was too long.   Probably 20 folks.

2M is better than Reese for Brisket imo. But I think Reese might have them beat on everything else.

Holy shit man, Jirby is going IN on Daniel Vaughn. His other post dissappeared from yesterday but TxMo threatened him with a cease and desist

He's been outspoken about Franklin before and the work environment.

I value the feedback on here eleventy billion X's more than any list or single evaluator.

It's also fun to try em all.  Not everything is world class, but most of em do SOMETHING well.

Schoepfs is one of the more underrated places in Texas

everything except the ribs was fantastic. Sopapilla cheesecake (not pictured) was incredible

I haven't been to Schoepf's in 15+ years. If I decide to get off 35 there, I'll go to Miller's instead.

Did I read somewhere that Schoepf's is under new ownership now?

best bbq spot in temple/belton?

hi.

Depending on date and time you are passing through, in no particular order:   Miller's, Schoepf's, Pustka Family BBQ, The G Wagon, check the Facebook pages for the last 2 as they typically sell out and hours are limited.  It just depends on the day and your personal preferences as to which one is best.

A lot has changed there in 15+ years, and for the better.  I have even noticed a difference in the last 4-5 years where it has stepped up even more.  Current owners took over from his parents in 2007-8-ish.   They started doing a lot of live music in their backyard area which I think has helped bring in some money for upgrades.   Miller's down the street has also caused them to step up their game or be left in the dust, which they were for a while.   They have changed their menu to have a bit more Tex-Mex influence to several items, upgraded to prime brisket, and all sides are homemade (spicy beans and street corn are great) instead of just opening a bucket of beans from Sysco and heating it up. Sopapilla cheesecake and tres leche are damn good desserts. They hired someone that is pretty dang good at running the pits and puts a lot of work into it.  It is slightly more expensive than Miller's, but you also get to avoid the line at Miller's and not be drowned out in all the noise.  Schoepf's is also opening a location in Georgetown soon.

Now that I think about it, I think Bill "Sausage Sensei" Dumas is doing things with Schoepf's.
