ABC Announced Start Times for a few ABC Prime Time games.

Week 1 Bama vs LVille   Should have been Aub vs Wash

Week 2 Penn St @ Pitt    Should have been Clem @ ATM

Week 3 Ohio St vs TCU  Should have been USC  @ UT

I know sometimes networks have rights on certain match-ups but i'm pretty surprised by these choices.

Also Fox announced TV rights for

Red River Shootout

Bucks/Mich

Mich/Sparty

I'm pretty shocked the Texas-USC game in not ABC Primetime.  I hope to hell it doesn't end up in the afternoon.

Pretty sure that Fox will pick it up to go head to head with OSU-TCU. The games that have been announced so far are "preference" picks by the two networks, which both carry Big 10/Big 12/Pac 10 games. FOX also had the TX/USC game last year.  There really aren't many other games that could fit in that slot - LSU/Auburn will either be on CBS or ESPN...same options for Alabama/Ole Miss.  I think ABC wanted to get OSU on more than anything else....it will have more cracks at Texas later in the year in primetime is my guess.

It's almost as though no one remembers that last year's Texas at USC game was on Fox.

CBS doesn't usually show SEC home games against non conference opponents. The SEC TV deal is tricky but usually that shit is broadcast by the Mouse.

That's right. I recall TCU @ Ark and UCLA @ ATM being on CBS in recent years.

Yes and it was sweet to listen to the CBS announcers talk about how amazed they were that TCU was dominating the line of scrimmage against an SEC team.  Darius Anderson and Olonilua averaged 7 yds a carry in that game and TCU was plus almost 8 minutes in time of possession.  That was the day Sonny Cumbie showed everyone that he's not just an Air Raid guy and he can adjust to his personnel.

If by the Mouse you mean ESPN, that could be the case. However, SEC games (and by contract, the home team dictates the television package) are never shown in primetime on ABC (which is what was announced). CBS gets the first pick under the contract for the game of the week in most cases followed by ESPN for their primetime slot (although the 2 networks do work hand in hand at times when announcing matchups). Nobody else in the SEC has a matchup worth a damn that week.....in fact the next best game in the SEC that week might be Miss St at K State, which would fall under the Big 12 contract. I'd be shocked if it wasn't on CBS. As mentioned above, CBS first SEC on CBS game last year was TCU at Arkansas.

I’m also assuming that our game against USC will be the Fox prime time game...though I would also otherwise assume that Fox’s Week 2 prime game would be USC-Stanford. Is that too much USC? So maybe UCLA at Oklahoma in Week 2?

Week 1

Ut vs Turtles (Baltimore)

We're playing in Landover, Maryland. Fed Ex Field. An hour drive from Baltimore.

I have seen this misstated so many times in various ways that I am convinced that at least a dozen Texas fans are going to show up on the Maryland campus in College Park on 9/1 looking for the football game.

Or at M&T bank stadium instead of fedex.

Speaking of, are they going to repaint the field for the turtles or just leave the deadskins stuff out there?

Didn’t ABC give us three prime time tOSU games in a row last season, including the 50-0 blowout at Rutgers?

tOSU was on ABC primetime during the regular season one time:

Week 2 vs OU

Their 3 highest rated games against Michigan, Pedo State,  and Wisconsin in Big14 championship were all on Fox

They had a lot of shitty games on ESPN/ABC, including Rutgers, but I think PencilPusher means night games when he says primetime.  tOSU definitely got a lot of coverage on one of Disney's two primary networks last year. Sometimes though, it was just because there weren't any good games at all in that time slot.

Putting the mortgage on Joey Freshwater when he goes to Denton.

I actually like FAU to cover the spread in Norman week 1. My book currently has them +21 which seems like a lot for a team on a 10 game win streak returning a shit ton of starters. If De'Andre Johnson lives up to his HS hype and can avoid punching chicks in the face, I can see them putting up a fight. They are also bringing back Singletary at RB who ran for 1920 yds /32 TDs in 2017.

FAU hung with a pretty salty Wisconsin team at Camp Randall in Freshwater's first season, losing by 17 against a 34 pt spread. I expect them to be competitive in Norman, and Joey's Twitter trolling leading up to the game should be worth a laugh. Hope he drops a big dump on Lincoln's belly tat.

The Athletic did their in-depth feature on Northern Illinois this week. Not expected to do more than maybe contend for the MAC title, but wow their non-conference is a rare example of what a non-P5 team would have to do to get playoff consideration:

At Iowa

vs. Utah

at Florida State

at BYU

Week 1 games other than ours I think are worth watching:

BYU vs. Arizona - Does BYU still suck? Can Rumlin shed his aggy aids? Game probably late so you can catch the 1st half before you pass out.

UTSA vs Arizona St. - Herm Edwards era starts. The dumpster fire gets lit.

Ole Miss vs Tech - SEC vs Big12 worth a watch. Coach Bro would help his seat stay lukewarm w/ a win. A loss turns on the heater.

Tenn vs WVU - SEC vs Big12 ... can WVU field a defense? Who's the coach at Tennessee again? Phillip Fulmer?

Auburn vs Washington - Early statement game for both teams that could set the path to the playoffs. Whoever loses leaves themselves a tough road to the final 4.

Cal vs N. Carolina - Is Cal good? When does the seat for Fedora start getting hot? Week 1?

Meat Chicken vs the Irish - Why? Because this hasn't happened in a while ...

What's not worth watching?

All 1-AA games.

Alabama. No matter the outcome, they are already penciled into the playoffs. Don't worry.

There are less blockbusters this year in Week 1 but some interesting matchups.  Auburn v Washington is the best of the lot.

Thank you for reminding me that Herm is at Arizona State. I might take the UTEP money line for shits and giggles.
