...Nicholas John Roske, 26, of Simi Valley, California, was charged with the attempted murder of a Supreme Court justice. During a court hearing, he consented to remain in federal custody for now.

Roske was dressed in black when he arrived by taxi just after 1 a.m. outside Kavanaugh’s home in a Washington suburb. He had a Glock 17 pistol, ammunition, a knife, zip ties, pepper spray, duct tape and other items that he told police he would use to break into Kavanaugh’s house and kill him, according to a criminal complaint and an affidavit filed in federal court in Maryland. Roske said he purchased the gun to kill Kavanaugh and that he also would kill himself, the affidavit said.

Roske told police he was upset by a leaked draft opinion suggesting the Supreme Court is about to overrule Roe v. Wade, the landmark abortion case. He also said he was upset over the school massacre in Uvalde, Texas, and believed Kavanaugh would vote to loosen gun control laws, the affidavit said...

...When he got out of the taxi, Roske was spotted by two U.S. Marshals who are part of round-the-clock security provided to the justices following the leak of the draft opinion last month. But Roske was only apprehended after he called 911 in Montgomery County, Maryland, and said he was having suicidal thoughts and planned to kill Kavanaugh, having found the justice’s address online. Roske was still on the phone when Montgomery County police arrived on the scene, according to the affidavit.

At his initial appearance in federal court in Greenbelt, Maryland, Roske paused several times before responding to routine inquiries from U.S. Magistrate Judge Timothy J. Sullivan during the 10-minute hearing.

Asked if he understood what was happening and whether he was thinking clearly, Roske paused, then said, “I think I have a reasonable understanding, but I wouldn’t say I’m thinking clearly.”

Roske said he is taking medication, but did not say what it is or why he is on it. He also said he is a college graduate....

Smells like a political activist who is going to try the "I must be crazy so you can't send me to jail" defense.

 

...Earlier Wednesday, Attorney General Merrick Garland told reporters, “This kind of behavior is obviously behavior we will not tolerate. Threats of violence and actual violence against the justices of course strike at the heart of our democracy and we will do everything we can to prevent them and to hold people who do them accountable....”

Protesting outside of a judge's home is specifically banned by Federal law.  But Garland refused to enforce it.

The "Picketing or Parading" law states that anyone "with the intent of interfering with, obstructing, or impeding the administration of justice, or with the intent of influencing any judge, juror, witness, or court officer in the discharge of his duty," cannot picket near a judge's residence. A conviction on this charge could come with up to a year in prison, a fine, or both.

The distinction is important: This law doesn't speak to gatherings of people who protest a court's decision but focuses instead on gatherings that seek to influence a decision. And in this case, with a leaked draft that is not yet final, the appearance of attempted influence is clear.

There is also precedent. In the 1965 U.S. Supreme Court case Cox v. Louisiana, justices concluded that picketing outside courtrooms and judges' homes with the intent to influence decisions "infringes a substantial state interest in protecting the judicial process." The majority opinion insisted that "mob law is the very antithesis of due process."

 

When will Dem leaders stop their irresponsible rhetoric that condones or even encourages political violence and blackmail?

Those people can just resign if they don't want to face the music of their actions.  Our children, unfortunately, are required by law to attend school, and hope not to be torn to shreds by a gun toting maniac.

I mean, the guy called the cops on himself lol. I really don't think Squee and PJ's drinking buddy was on any danger. Dude clearly has issues, but this is a pretty feckless attempt at #bothsides, even for surly lol.

The OP’s point about Garland “not enforcing the law” is pure bullshit, if you read the statute. Good luck proving up those elements.

Also, what’s the fucking nexus between that “non-enforcement” and this event?

So murder is ok if it benefits the Democrat Party?  Assassination attempts are simply "facing the music" because you don't like some political rulings?  "Resign or die."  Sane people don't think like that.  

BTW, you always have the homeschool option.  And there are homeschooling networks that share the load for households where the only parent or both work.  But the statistical facts are that your child is far more likely to die in a car wreck on the way to school than in a school shooting.

Well he called himself in after he saw the US Marshalls watching him.  He may have decided that he had little chance of now getting away with it, so decided to minimize the lockup by stopping and faking an insanity defense.  He spent time in Seattle, would not be surprised if we eventually learn he had some assistance/advice on planning.  Antifa is usually good on gaming the legal system.  I wonder if Kamala's group will try to bail him out at some point...

Oh, and since surely the red herring of, "You're just a Jan. 6er" is about to be tossed out, I posted on that thread in support of Trump's impeachment for his lack of timely response that day.  (I had previously opposed the 2 pre-Jan 6 sham impeachment charades.)   Political violence is not cool, no matter what side it comes from.

It's fucking amazing there isn't MORE of this from the left -- the political violence is nearly all on the other side. Do a deep, honest dive into domestic terrorism and there's no comparison. Hence, the need to cherry-pick some rando who didn't even come close to attempting to kill Beer Boy. 

P.S. those who genuinely condemn violence of this sort are by and large not right-wingers... except when it's their guy.
