Wasn't able to watch last nights game and I doubt I'll be able to catch any of em this weekend. Working nights is a fucking bitch. Best I can tell, our lineup did what it was supposed to do and DP decided to try some dudes out in the later innings. Worked out. Hurley today, right? Then I guess either Stehle or LBJ on Sunday....?

This is basically spot on. Some pitchers showed why they can't be given innings in big games last night, for sure.

Basically correct, except for a frustrating stretch in the middle of the game in which a joke of a pitcher was tossing grapefruits up there and we weren't hitting them. It's apparent how Duke and directional Michigan put up 20 on the Quesokillers.

Just looked it up and Jared Thomas is hitting .318 through 12 conference games. It might be time to get him out of the 9-hole permanently.

He is going to be a rare guy in the future who plays 1B while having the speed to steal 15-20 bases and hit .300.

Yeah he is a great player now and will be for the following two seasons.

I feel like Galvan is close.

So, here we sit at 26 and 12 with 18 games left.  What will it take to host a regional?  We can all predict some kind of number.  If we go .500 the rest of the way, we finish regular season at 35 and 21.  Is that enough?  I'll hang up and listen.

RPI will be likely be a big factor. Committee has shown in the pastthat they weigh RPI more than anything. If you have a top 20ish RPI with a good conference record, you are likely hosting (our RPI is currently 21)

TCU last year was the first Big 12 champion to ever not host because their RPI was something like 36.

So to answer your question, .500 the rest of the way probably does not mean a top 20ish RPI so no, I don’t think we host in that scenario. 9-9 in a stretch that includes 3 midweek games and a series against San Jose State would be disappointing.

I am more focussed on winning the league. We are now clinging to a very narrow lead over TCU and WV. Sweeping Baylor would have been so nice.

Now we have last place OU coming to town, we need to take advantage but we won't if we keep walking people, hitting people, and throwing wild pitches. That's got to stop, at least to the ridiculous level we have been.

Yup. Win the big12 and we most likely host.

The Big 12 is not good at all this year. Likely only one team from the big 12 will get a host bid and it will be whoever wins the conference. I think 39-17/40-16 is what it would take with how bad the big 12 is. Kansas State is currently in sole possession of 2nd place and TCU just lost a home series to UNC Wilmington…

maybe as an offensive player,  and even maybe as an actual catcher keeping the yip-thrown balls in front of him.  I absolutely approve of him getting those chances.

But having a catcher who, so far, is unable to throw out a baserunner stealing 2nd is a massive red flag.    I am frankly stunned that our opponents havent figured out (except maybe K State), that getting to 2nd base on the first pitch is pretty much guaranteed as long as our pitcher doesnt pick you off ahead of time.

Yeah we gotta sweep OU. Just cause fuck OU.

Eh, glad to get out of Waco with a series win but the sweep was there for the taking. Oh well. Sweep OU and go from there. Also, Witt has to be our closer when he comes back. Put him in in the 8th and it's game over.

Galvan is still a summer and fall away from being fully ready. He’ll be a dude though by next spring if he stays on the same developmental curve, which is good because catcher is one of the hardest positions to solidify in baseball.

We also have several good incoming freshman who catch, including a Waco area kid who I saw was at the game yesterday (Nik Sanders). That position is in a good spot.

12 teams in the top 25 lost a series this weekend, including 6 in the top 15.

Dallas Baptist is #21 in Baseball America. They too struggled with Baylor this week winning 6-5. They are 3-3 versus the Big 12 on the season. They also swept FAU this week while out scoring them 24-7.

You have double digit loss teams at the bottom of the top 10. We’re into the part of the season in which almost every team loses during the week. And some lose half or more of their games.

Lots of flawed teams out there that have some good to great players that can cause their opponents problems.

Kennedy easily pacing the squad in strikeouts coupled with an OBP under .400 is not what I expected coming into the season.

6 steals from him at this point isn't what I expected either. I won't complain much though if he continues to hit .333 and drive in runs at the rate he is. His K-rate throughout his career is interesting though:

2019- 12.5%

2020- 20%

2021- 24.8%

2022- 18.2%

2023- 24.8%

Going into the Baylor series I felt like winning 5 of 6 from Baylor and OU was key to winning the BigXII.  Despite the frustrations of the Baylor series, that is still alive.

Minchey listed as the starter tomorrow. If he looks good for 3 innings, I hope they shut him down and prepare him to be available out of the bullpen this weekend on Saturday/Sunday.

Here's the starter for ACU: https://acusports.com/sports/baseball/roster/blake-anderson/9525

From the same town as Strutter Tyson Neighbors?

Minchey for 3, Hurley for 3 (needs confidence back), then Duplantmusbridge?

I assume Minchey and Whitehead will be the first two arms used. But yeah, wouldn’t shock me if they got Hurley and Morehouse back out there for an inning. 3 might be a little much for Hurley.

I'm sick today and a little out of it. I thought the game was today and somehow there was no thread. I then go to look at the live stats and I see 9-3 and a Texas loss. I was pissed for a good couple of minutes until I realized that was the Texas State game.

Kind of funny how things played out this year schedule wise. Our non-conference SOS is #21 right now. Last year's non-conference schedule SOS finished #40.

2022- Both Bama and South Carolina ended up being bad and missing regionals. Our toughest midweek game was at Texas State or the home game against A&M. LSU and UCLA ended up as 2-seeds in regional play.

2023- Fullerton will be a NCAA tournament team leads the Big West (12-3 record), Indiana is a tournament team and is in second place in the Big Ten (9-3 record), LSU is obviously the #1 team in the country and Texas State is good again. Also had A&M on the road. Arkansas and Vandy are locks for #1 seeds right now. We also have San Jose State for 3 games coming up and they currently lead the Mountain West (11-4 record).

That would be a pretty good Austin Regional.  If we got out of that it would be fun to go to arkie for the super

We have honestly gotten pretty favorable regional draws the last few years (Last year, Texas State being sent out to Stanford and Arkansas being sent to Oklahoma State was huge).

DBU, Texas State, UTSA, Sam Houston State and A&M all look like tournament teams right now and there is no way we don't end up with 1 or 2 in our regional if we end up hosting.
