LOL. The game where he got backup reps all week and - in a total panic move by Sark -  was quickly thrown into the fire with a fucked offense after Quinn had to be pulled? Seriously, you're going with that angle?

Arch is going to be a monster my guy. I think we all know that. I just hope he hangs around until he is a senior. It's going to be a great 3 years if he does. He has a poise that you can tell has been coached into him by the three ho-hum quarterbacks in his family. Once he learns not to take the big shots all the time and speed up his progression reads, he is going to win a lot of games. We look to be set for a long time.

Same with Vandy. It’s def a weird pattern. I’m not smart enough to know why, though I do believe the RPO and screen emphasis make any QB in this system susceptible to more tipped balls by DL and to LBs getting into lanes.

Probably because we run the same variation of plays in the opening script.

Counterpoint: Arch Manning is really, really good. He learned from mistakes and improved significantly between his 1st and 2nd starts. Which means he's absorbing the instruction from his coaches, worked to get better, and showed it on the field.

Spoiler alert: Arch will be a better QB from Game 1 next year than Quinn has ever been at Texas.

Quinn has had some games where he just absolutely killed it. He was nails in both games against Alabama. He was carving Bama up until he got taken out in his first contest with them. Likewise 49-0 against OU. When he's not playing timidly, he's very good.

It’s lame how Quinn can still be injured and score like he did against Florida but when he looks how he did against Arkansas it’s because of the injury.

Sark just has to win and this all goes away. After we win a national championship we can argue in this thread whether Quinn is our version of Stetson Bennett or the second coming of VY.

He took a bad sack and almost threw a pick in the first quarter. Then he did get hot and light them up. Some of it was play design but also some of it was Quinn decision making and passing ability.

It’s just crazy how the offense either completely can’t move or we blaze down the field with guys wide open the whole way. Some of that is definitely on Quinn, as he either needs to get out of the play or improvise to get some yards sometimes and he just hasn’t done that since Michigan.

Yeah they have studied the both way screen where we’ve got a screen going each side of the field that never works anymore.

I’d like to see the roll out RPO inside pitch to the backside tight end that chiefs run.

We need to run a fake block and wheel off of that double screen action since teams are so aggressive with it. I haven't watched enough Chiefs that I remember that play but it sounds good.

He has gotten out of plays since Michigan. Maybe not enough, but the slot fade TD vs Vandy would be one example.

But then there is that pesky Georgia tape.

This is just being oblivious. Did you see Quinn's tape for most of the first half? There is a reason Quinn got benched. His 2 drives still outgained all of Quinn's 1st half drives. We have no idea if how he would have looked in the second half or if he prepped like Quinn did as the 1st QB.

Texas runs a ton of that shit. You see the opening TD vs Ark or Florida? Stalk block and go is run almost every game. It would be harder to find a game where Stark does not run some form of fake screen and go.

Really? I only recall seeing that the last few games. We certainly don't run " a ton of that shit"

It wasnt double screen, but screen and go concepts have been huge for Texas this year. I would bet more than half of Ewer's TDs have been either a screen or screen and go. Sark does a great job scheming open 2-3 shot plays a game. That is not the offenses problem. It is executing on basic concepts that is hit or miss

I believe JWhits last TD at Texas was stalk and go. That was from last year, so I think you are missing some things.

That was last year dude. Until the last few games we haven't been running those this year. If they had against Georgia we might have had some big plays because they were crashing our screen game. You have to run them to keep people honest, we weren't running them. Georgia did beat us on one for sure though.

yes, that was the point. Texas has been running these concepts for a while.

Not off the double screen action they don't which is why teams have been crashing it because they don't have to worry about a counter. Just put it on film once and it will slow teams down.

Dont follow. The stalk and go has been working BECAUSE TEAMS ARE CRASHING THE SCREEN. The whole point of the stalk and go is to take advantage of teams crashing on the screen. It obviously slows down defenses from over-playing the screen. Not sure why they would need to run double screens to do the same thing.

What if the issue was like that Simpsons Halloween special where the Krusty doll was accidentilly set to "Evil."  Has anyone checked the switch on Quinn's back?

Quinn tomorrow if he comes out slinging it past 7 yards.

With nearly every team going to a 3 high safety look against Texas, the deep ball which is already lower percentage than the underneath stuff gets even lower...and raises the chance of a pick.

Of course everyone loves it when there's a 50 yard TD strike, (look at my av ffs) but defenses are scheming to take that away so Sark/Quinn are for the most part taking what the D gives.

Which SHOULD play to QE's strength of the swing pass, the screen, etc and let them beat one man and go

just need Quinn to find that rhythm in the middle of the field. I havent seen many of those 18 yard comebacks that were money last year. Those killed teams that dropped their safeties deep last year.

I think what is more frustrating to folks is we know Quinn has more talent, he just doesn’t consistently put it all together.

This is the frustarting part. It shouldn't be close between Quinn and Sam but it is and that's because of Ewers inconsistency.

I have seen this sentiment a few times now. If arch doesn’t prep like he’s the starter every week then that’s on him, not sark. I doubt sark has super secret meetings with just Quinn and leaves arch out of them. Have you ever played any really competitive team sports that last 12-16 weeks? The offseason is where the real work is done. Practice during the week to prepare for the opponent is mental, it’s watching film and finding weaknesses. Half the team is dealing with some sort of injury that nobody but them knows about. The qb’s wear red jerseys ffs, they don’t go full speed and can’t mimic game speed if they tried. If arch wasn’t ready for Georgia because he didn’t take a snap with the “1’s” then he needs to learn to prepare better.

The mental gymnastics it takes to shift blame over to Arch is hilarious.

I’m saying he was ready, he was prepared because he’s a manning and because he’s going to be bad ass. He still got his ass handed to him. Georgia was better than we were that night, every facet of the game. Period. Arch running with the 1’s wasn’t going to help his OL block.

Well, playing with the 1s matters.

When Arch tried to beat Georgia to the corner, that was an inexperienced move but not necessarily a huge error. The strip sack wasn’t necessarily him either; however, he’s now running the two minute offense.  That is a huge ask.  For a guy with limited experience overall, who is running the 2 minute offense, in a game we’re losing against the most talented defense we will play all year after not having practiced with the 1s.

Yeah, that’s no difference.  And if you watch again, that was the worst sequence our line had up to that point.

That is not how it works. Say he put a 100% effort into prep as the back-up. He still doesn’t get the reps or attention the 1st string will.  That includes throwing to the 1st recievers.

funny part is he was no worse in his play, than the 3 year starter. He made some mistakes (trying to out run an NFL WR and missed a read). Quinn did also (missed an uncovered WR and took at sack/fumble. Misread the defense and threw an in)

I don’t get to watch longhorn practices I’ll be honest, but I played college football and all of our qb’s threw in a rotation to every wr we had every practice, it was called inside hull. Every db versus every wr in a rotation. I don’t think sark is dumb enough to think Quinn can’t get hurt. Now Once team drills started the 1’s were together but it was a simulation which was 60% speed at best. Nobody wanted to be the asshole that got an all American hurt being a hero. Which goes into my next point, you can’t simulate a really solid 2 minute drill in practice either, it’s just not possible. In the game there’s adrenaline, there’s legit fatigue, there’s crowd noise, errors that weigh on you, and the other team that wants to whip your ass in a way your teammates never do.

If sark isn’t giving arch plenty of attention after having quinn injured every year he’s been here then sark is a dumbass. I think arch gets plenty of good reps in practice and is ready to go at a moments notice. Is that really a retarded take to think our back up qb gets good solid practice reps because our starter is injury prone???
