Democratic Debate GIF by GIPHY News

Not sure the point when you are comparing a freshmen coming off the bench for a 3 year starter. There should be a wide gap based on experience. If they played  the same you would think the freshmen would improve at a greater level as this is the 1st time he is seeing an excellent defense.

How much has Quinn pocketed to this point?

Yeah you claim he can make $6M next year versus a not 1st round draft pick contract next year, but he isn't hurting. I'm guessing he already has millions in the bank. Maybe just feels it's time to go for it.

There are like 80 posts of people bumbling about how Arch should have started over Quinn this year in this topic

Quinn was struggling and in a panic Sark threw Arch into the fire for 2 series. Terrible situation and holding any negativity from it is dumb.

Now we have delusional Quinn-Anon folks saying there was a QB competition when Quinn was named the starter before the camp?

I think Sark made a deal with the Ewers camp that he would be the unquestioned QB1 this season to showcase his skills and enter the draft to make room for Arch.

Ewers was Sark's first QB when he badly needed a good QB to turn this program around. I think Sark was loyal to him because of that. If Arch ends up being a liability, would Sark show the same level of loyalty or put the program first?

That’s best for sarks resume as well.  He doesn’t want to be known as a qb killer

He did a pretty good QB killer impersonation this year... You would think he would have tailored his offense to let QE read the defense and not take his eyes off of it but you see where we landed.

Same is said by USA today but maybe they are all quoting a single made up number? If the information is accurate, however, it would make Ewers' decision to transfer an easy one.

But he didn’t. Quinn was named the starter before spring ball even started.  Not that he shouldn’t have been the starter but there wasn’t a QB competition.

Which highlights some of feelings I have  about the offense vs defense when it comes to moving up the depth chart and who gets to play.  Won’t get into that here though.

As far as the draft he should go pro this year.  As critical as we are of him he is still one of the better QBs going into the draft and the league GMs seem legally obligated to draft at least 4 QBs in the first round.  I can’t see him dropping below the 2nd Rd.

Sark is an offensive guy, so I highly doubt that he would have any input on the defense.

I'm Sark's press conference he admitted Quinn wasn't healthy all season, so we can chalk that up to some issues. But it he didn't come back, we lost a few more games and our chance at the CFP, as good as Arch looked against the poors, he wasn't going to win all of those games. Right now, as we sit here, a 75% healthy Quinn is better than a 100% Arch based on playbook knowledge.

Yes, Quinn made mistakes and self-sacks himself, which is fucking annoying to all of us; if Arch went in and fucked up a game just imagine how much our fan base would hang themselves. It's the Texas QB paradox.

I think Quinn rushed back because of the Arch hype and how he was playing. I also don’t think Quinn would have gotten his job back had he stayed out longer enough to properly heal. It was foolish to not give Arch plays actually running the offense, to get him ready for next year.
I have complained about Arch waiting for the big play as opposed to the smart play and taking what’s there sometime. He’s also a rs freshman with almost no experience. Those are mistakes you know are coming. You expect a rs jr to have a lot fewer of those.

That guy on the left also threw for over 1,000 yards more 14 more touchdowns in 13 games which is nearly identical to QE who got just a shade over 13 with injuries.

The point remains Sark is fully capable he seems to do better when he has a player who can run his style of offense because it's 1000% clear he's too stubborn to tweak his offense to fit his player hence the grand canyon of disparity between the two seasons.

Ewers looked like shit playing the shit competition that was Vandy, Arkansas, and Kentucky. So yeah, forgive us if one QB in his 2nd year looked much better than a QB in his 3rd year against similar competition.

We're not really going to compare a covid season QB stats are we? He's good yeah, but what about his entire offensive line being All-SEC? or Smith being the Heisman winner... Harris being the Doak Walker winner... or their "lower" tier WR being Waddle and Metchie ??  How do you compare that "stat" wise.

Why should he tweak an offense that got Mac Jones, Jake Locker, and Cody Kessleer drafted at an average position of 38.7, or a high 2nd round pick. Maybe instead Ewers should have gotten better under his tutelage. Those 3 guys certainly did, and none of them had anywhere close to the natural arm talent Ewers supposedly has.

If I am Quinn Ewers and I watched Sam Darnold cost himself a lucrative contract last night, I think to myself, "Am I better than that guy?" "No? and XYZ will pay me $5+mm for a last year in college? Okay deal."

We had enough talent to win the national championship the past two seasons and we have a B12 title to show for it. You do the math....

the only way to answer that question pre game

Quinn Ewers reportedly has recruiting personnel from Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame, and Georgia all reportedly “extremely interested” in him as a potential transfer QB.

Ewers is reportedly “not even a guaranteed second round pick” according to several NFL scouts.

Many NFL scouts reportedly believe Ewers “needs” to grad-transfer and will make more money staying in college rather than he would playing in the NFL.

Ewers reportedly has “multiple” $6+ million offers to transfer, with some being in the Big Ten.

The money in college football is absolutely INSANE 😳

It makes sense in so many ways for Quinn to transfer instead of NFL, I just really hope he doesn’t do it. I don’t want to watch him play in college for another team next year. I don’t want us to play against him next year. As much as we can hand-wring all day about 3, he was our QB, our guy, that brought us back to national relevance.

When it comes down to it, he’s gotta make the best decision for him. Just hope he thinks that best decision is backup in the NFL for a season or two before he gets his shot.

Can you imagine him leading OSU next year to a victory over us to start the year and then back to back national titles?

I can't because he's not good. He had TOs in the last 6 games of the season, including multiple games with multiple TOs, that is shitty QB play. If he went anywhere I would laugh if we got to play him.

fair after the last few years, now that you say that I'm not either.

i seem to recall a bunch of transfer shenanigans with SEC teams right before we were official members that didn't make people super happy so my understanding it still applies

Posted

Apparently there was an SEC rule that stated they can transfer inside the conference, but only if they enter the portal before Feb 1…

But it no longer applies

A change to know in the SEC

The SEC previously had its own transfer deadline on Feb. 1 for fall-sport athletes who wished to transfer from one SEC school to another. That’s no longer the case. Whereas before SEC players had to be in the portal by Feb. 1 to be an intraconference transfer, the SEC earlier this year adopted the NCAA’s calendar, which means the deadline for SEC athletes is now Jan. 2 when the winter portal window closes with the same five-day grace period the NCAA provides to players after a postseason contest. Those dates also apply to graduate transfers.

With the 12 team playoff, we’re going to have to wish for his downfall then, which I can’t do either. I would root for 3 if he’s on ND next year, but then we end up playing ND in the playoffs and that’s going to be a rough day either way as a Texas fan. We had the right idea with Quinn, it just didn’t happen how we all wanted it to.

Saying 3 isn’t good is some of the dumbest shit on this site. QE had his warts, but 4th & 13 from the 28 I’ll remember forever. 3 wins over our rivals in the first year of SEC. The Michigan game that I went to will be an all time sports memory for me. We don’t have Arch without Quinn. I could go on. Yes he struggled at times, but there are very few exceptions to the fact that of all the teams we played with Quinn at QB over his 3 years, the team we faced would have rather had 3 as their QB than their own. Hell, every team we played this year probably would have rather had Quinn as their starter, including over Carson Beck or Will Howard.

Quinn has been the most positive impactful player to the Texas program since Colt McCoy and I don’t think that’s really up for debate. Ehlinger was a gamer and a great representative of the program, but the results pretty clearly speak for themselves.

I hope you’re ready for Arch to throw around 10 ints next year. First year starter that is aggressive with the deep ball. Bound to happen.

QE will heal up, will look good in his workouts, will get excellent reviews from every coach he has been around, and will get drafted no later than mid-second round most likely as the 4th QB taken.  A team taking a QB in that spot shouldn't need a plug-in starter, so he can put on the needed 15+ pounds and do some serious work on his footspeed...and if he puts in the work, has a chance to be a good NFL quarterback.

This is the dumbshit that gets me fired up.

No matter who we’ve played the record without him starting the past 3 years is similar on a percentage basis to those he’s missed.

There are metrics that say our defense is better, relative to the opponent, than the offense all 3 of his years.

Back to back first overall RBs taken in the draft two years year.

One of the most highly decorated, likely highest drafted, olinemen in school history.

The fastest WR duo in NFL combine history.  Statistically speaking, one of those dudes had his best year prior to Ewers arrival.

Likely TEs drafted in back to back years.  I’m not sure that’s happened at Texas.

I didn’t even mention Roschon.  I didn’t mention Whittington.  I didn’t even mention individuals from the defense.

A number of guys that bridged the gap between the prior regime to this one.  That made a shit ton of plays.  But sure the guy who seemingly admitted to maybe not fully preparing his body and his mind in his first year here is the unquestioned savior for the program.

I suggest you wear your hard hat when wandering outdoors again. And truly hope the damage is not irreparable.
