I have a chance to go see them Sunday. I know nothing. Worth it?

What Jimmy said is accurate. They are a fantastic live band and they’ve recorded some great rock songs on their 4 albums.

Their drummer engaged the crowd more than any drummer I’ve seen. It ranged from taking over the lead mike to berate a dumb ass that was fighting and having him escorted out to, during a bass solo, leaving his kit and climbing down into the crowd to take a picture with three little kids that were rocking out in the side of the stage.

Just saw Frampton last week at the Ryman in Nashville.  He has a muscle wasting disease so he did the whole show seated (as did his band).  He was amazing!  His voice is still on key and his playing skills don't seem impacted by his illness.  He lives here, so he came out and spoke to the crowd after the show.  He even brought on Chris Stapleton for a couple of songs.  Hopefully with his illness, this won't be his last show.

Had the talk box, of course.  The big surprise to me was the cover of "Black Hole Sun" with only one verse sung--thru the talk box!

saw the rodeo boys last night. discovered them last sxsw and thought they were excellent. definitely a 90's throwback guitar rock sound with some great bass lines. they played at 6:30pm opening for a bunch of shitty pop punk bands but there was a decent crowd there, hopefully they gained some fans. said they'll be back for sxsw this year.

They put on a great show. Saw them in Austin and then in New Orleans before LCD Soundsystem last summer. Always a good time.

I'm going to U2 at the Sphere in Vegas this Saturday night. I don't really listen to U2 any more, grown bored of them, but I'm going for the spectacle. I suspect I'll enjoy it.

nolongeru2 won’t approve but I was surprised with how good they sounded. Bono had to key down for sure but he belted pretty good. Loved the show. Sphere definitely lives up to the hype. Despite the unpopular sentiment on this particular forum, the edge is one of my favorite guitarists for his sonic contributions and he was great. Good times and recommended.

Well Black Pumas were great. Though Eric Burton's voice was a little tired and after like what 7 nights in a row between Houston and Austin?  So he didn't hit some of those super high notes, but still they were great to see.  My only disappointment was their encore as I felt like they should have done something more banging, or just close with "Colors."  But a really good show as usual, where they really make the audience be a part of the performance.  It was also a lot better from a comfort level than the 100 degree outdoor show when I first saw them at Mohawk a few years ago.  Burton jumped down into the crowd multiple times. Took time out to take a selfie with the guy in a wheelchair in front of us, and just generally loved the audience as much as they loved him.  As usual Adrian was happy ripping along in the background for the most part.

The opening act Danielle Ponder was really, really good.  Different than my normal musical fare, but she was also super engaging with the audience, and she had a big damn voice.  I could totally hear her for example singing the theme song for the next Bond film.  In fact I told "the guy she spoke about meeting on a plane" that if I were her manager I would send a tape every day to Barbara Broccoli in hopes of making that a reality.  Besides the fantastic voice she had a story to tell.  Most interesting is that up until two years ago she was a public defender in NY and decided two years ago to make the leap to music and quit her job.  Great fucking decision.  Anyhow if you see her on a billing take the time to see her, she was the perfect opening act for the Black Pumas.

God I love live music...

Never heard of her but I'm digging every song I've listened to on Spotify so far.  Just ordered her album.

if you are in the 100s, make sure you are in row 20 or lower.  thankfully we were but above that, you have an overhang that completely obstructs anything above about eye level.

Danielle Ponder opened for Marcus Mumford in Dallas when my wife and I went earlier this year or late last year. We knew nothing about her and she slayed it. Amazingly talented and her story is so damn good. Did she do her cover of "Creep"? I think she ended her set with that and on the first few notes, I leaned over to my wife and asked if I was hearing what I thought I was hearing. Yep.

When she cranks it up at the end her voice is massive:

Thanks. I guess we're not exactly in the same spot - just above where you were in 211

I'm basically in the same shoes that you guys are wearing, didn't know anything about her past a DJ on Sun radio said she was good.  I am open enough to listen to most anything, and to be honest she is not close to what I listen to, but you cannot deny talent.  After Cooter said he bought the Album, I played it today, and it was almost the set list, with of course Creep.  And she made it her own, which I appreciate. My wife also recognized the song after a couple notes... but mainly because she has hear me sing it dozens of times in Karaoke.  Glad to say "list to this gal" and like C-man said, "amazingly talented and a great story.  And I thought it was cool that she shared her story honestly, especially her initial hesitating to share her story of starting this new career at 40.

I would definitely suggest to anyone to search for Danielle Ponder and Creep and tell me that's not close to epic.  Wish that lady all the luck in the world. Like I do every musician!

So I thought buying Taylor Swift tickets for my kid was one of the hardest tickets to try to get. It's got nothing on trying to get the other one a ticket to Laufey at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. Two shows and each one had 6000 people ahead of me in the queue.

Couldn't remember if I rolled on "Creep" when we saw Danielle but turns out that I did. Here's the clip from last October:

SS&tS last night @ ACL Live, annual "Ugly Christmas Sweater" gig, Austin leg (also has a Dallas area & Houston show).

Slayed / went hard, etc.

Prob. 25th... 30th show pf theirs we have seen.

Shane handed me his set list after the show.

*man crush*

Didn't play "Born & Raised" or close with "Bury Me In Texas", however I'll manage to survive.

My face got melted
That was a monster setlist. I was standing right next to the "first it giveth" guy. Fucking Mexicola too! Holy hell that was good. Spiritualized was pretty low energy but I enjoyed it, qotsa was just on another level entirely. Homme seemed like he was loving it. Glad we got a song for the dead closer, they didn't play it when I saw them a couple months ago...Jon Theodore is an absolute beast. Shit, the whole band was impressive. Might have been the best concert of the year for me.

What is the music side of the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar like? I have never been actually, but thought I would go check it out and see Sue Foley, and see if there was anything I could not resist.  But damn I was looking at the list of artists and wondering if the venue is worth watching music in?  I know it's not Continental Club, but what is the vibe?  I love the idea of seeing some good music with a 7 pm start time.  Haven't seen C.J. Chenier and and the Red Hot Louisiana Band, and he closes Sunday after Shelley King and then Carolyn Wonderland each have earlier sets. But what is the stage area like?  I assume there are some adult beverages?  https://armadillobazaar.com/2023music/

I have been wanting to see Henri Hebert at C-Boys, and Madam Radar for a full set, as well as some of the other earlier day bands. But is it too boring an environment to see more than just a band while you are shopping?

just picture a stage in the middle of a holiday market and that's the vibe. they do sell alcohol and the majority of people are not there for the music.

BTW, the poster above... its not The Last Waltz... it is just a show full of great bands and musicians mostly playing originals and some covers.  Apparently The Bright Light Social Hour will serve as the primary backing band.  Was listening to several artists last night and was digging Vlad Holiday's sound.  Lots of talent on one stage and I can't wait to see how Fat Tony works into all this.  Good stuff.
