You gotta start doing more coke than him so it transfers back

I’ll never do cocaine. Not for some moral reason and not to make D.A.R.E feel proud…I would be WAY too good at it. Idk if there could be a winner at cocaine but god damn I’d challenge for the belt. Idk if I’d be the Jordan of it but I’d at least be the Kobe of it

This feels like an awfully good time to repost RGB's Ginuwine karaoke from the Alabama game. Complete with defiling my camping chair. Can be a bit of a teaser trailer as to what to look forward to from public events with him.

This feels like something everyone should have saved on their phone.

I’d say fairly well. Attendance was probably about 125-150, and I was fairly impressed with the speakers. I’ve heard Sark, CDC, and the boosters involved speak before except Wheels, but I thought they all had very compelling speeches that were geared towards people who might have in the past been hesitant to support NIL. I would say I walked in with zero expectations on what this would be, and came out thinking that a lot of people will support NIL moving forward in some small amount at least. They definitely geared their pitch towards the idea of tapping our massive living alumni group towards a subscription model like Burnt Ends, as well as establishing a baseline for most of the roster.

One speaker who has shelled out a ton of money so far made a fairly passionate defense that these kids aren’t wasting this money on cars and grills, but flying parents to games or paying off their high interest debt occurred during Covid, and this guy would know. And in that sense the pitch was very much honed to The Olds. The more I reflect, the more I think it went really well. I’d be shocked if this kind of road tour doesn’t shake loose some bigger regular supporters to OneFund.

one personal concern of mine was also addressed, which was the tax instruction these kids are getting is legit, above and beyond what is legally required. Other things I learned but didn’t know is that if a kid tests the portal, he is not welcome back, and he’s fully aware of that in advance. Sark has had very frank conversations with the team in that level. He is highly, highly protective of the culture and the way he handles NIL with kids reflects that.

It feels like we’re in good hands. Still a long way to go in terms of funding and spreading the word, but these guys seem to have a good handle on the real world, and aren’t shying away from it. They need dollars and support staff, imo. Plenty of things to work on, and improve, but I feel good about what we have to work with compared to other schools, and hopefully we keep moving forward. People just need to buy in and pay up.

also some good and well deserved shots at aTm and the sec for their behavior for decades and their current hand wringing. I also met @Enchubben and @Okcool and to my surprise, they were both normal, cool guys. I was naturally expecting both to be 5’4” and approximately 300 lbs with high decibel lisps, which is how I envision most of you reprobates.

One other thing, in regards to the LHF points for OneFund NIL contributions, the hold up on our end is Texas state law. Which I didn’t know but I should have fucking guessed. Which is also why Texas aTm’s behavior is as usual laughably hilarious. I spoke with a couple guys and pointed out that my OneFund contributions to date are all being tracked in Kindful. This is obviously for tax deduction purposes, but when I pointed out to LHF folks and discussed that making points retroactive pending laws changing would be simple, they all nodded their heads. So I wouldnt call it a hard confirmation that OneFund donations will get LHF points retroactively, but these guys seemed aware and prepared for that assuming the lawyers and compliance eventually give the go ahead.

Thanks for posting updates @SydneyCarton. Appreciate it. Sounds like good event. 125+ folks with also a number of folks that paid and didn't attend is a pretty good turnout.

I hope they do these in other cities as well.

They’re planning to do them in Dallas, for sure, and I’d they get interest I believe maybe NY and LA. They’ve certainly sent LHF folks to those cities recently to meet with donors about NIL.

Given that the $25k dinner that followed was also well attended, it was a huge success. I’d expect one of these in Houston once or twice a year. This raised over $500k on top of creating all kinds of better awareness and interest from people who … umm … still this newfangled Internet is probably a fad for those kooky youngins.

The one in Dallas is being organized as a smaller affair with more highly targeted donors. Typical. We’ll see if they do jack shit. To date, the DFW contingent of UT’s base for NIL has shown up as the fake-tanned, frosted-tips, collar-popped clown making $40k and driving a BMW that he can’t afford. They’ve talked a lot of shit and have done nothing. You know, about what we should expect.

Fucking Dallas. So so so Dallas. Not like good salt of the earth Houstonians who roll their sleeves up and get it done. Heartier folks down here living in a combination of bleak hell scape and swamp.

FWIW I overheard them say there were 180 RSVP's.  though i would agree the attendance was probably more like 125.  Couple of interesting notes that arent necessarily mindblowing if you have been paying attention:

1) No one is getting 7 figure NIL deals from Texas directly. They may be getting there when you add in external NIL deals which is what is intended.

2) You would be shocked at the amount of NIL $ Arch got. (in a good way)

3) Texas appears to be a in a great place currently having met all promises/obligations and following the rules/laws to a "T". Student athletes' marketing agents are taking notice which shools do and do don't which is and should continue to benefit us.

4) Agree that they are trying to target a bit more of the $5K- $25K a year crowd but it sounded like they had a pretty compelling story to sell some of the larger donors that are or were historically adamantly against NIL. Certainly a mentoring and networking benefit to this for the student athletes that I hadn't considered for those that dont have a future in professional sports.

5) Want to be humbled? Attend an event like this. That room was littered with some of the most brilliant/wealthy/successful individuals I've ever been around. All very approachable and friendly, however.  Also briefly met Gerry Hamilton and Bobby Burton as well as the Surly contingent there - all really cool individuals.

Any room with you in it is likely to be classier than I deserve my man- good to hear you say that.
That has typically been my experience with the 8 and 9 figure people I know and have had the pleasure of interacting with- especially when they make/earn it themselves.

It would be a lot easier for me to drive up to LA than to go to Houston or Dallas.

So far what I have gathered  is the Surly contingent didn’t go “drunk and belligerent” and tarnish the sites “good name” and nobody died.

I will take that any fucking day of the week when there is an outing that gets more than two of us together from this hive of villainy and repute.

Well done!

I was at a Dallas happy hour early fall before One Fund was established.  To CTJ's point it wasn't that well attended and I didn't get the sense the older folks there were super receptive.  The email blast I was on prior to the event was clearly to a large group but at the time (again, before 1 fund) it stated they were looking for $5K minimum with annual increases.  Most UT alumni in my circle are in late 30's to mid 40's range with young kids and that's a meaningful number for those in that phase of life and all that comes with it.  Particulary considering most have other charities they support in addition to already providing disposable income on tix + seat donations etc. (and I ended up not really being able to justify $5K either at this point for the same reasons).  While I 100% agree with the need to target large contributions from those that either have a massive net worth (at any age) and the older group with kids out of college and material liquid assets, I think it's a mistake to not try to bring in the $1K-$5K donors at events like these in other cities (i.e., tying it to happy hours events with Sark and/or other coaches speaking to actually get people to attend). At least eventually.  That's the group you hope to get committed now knowing some will eventually be in a position down the road to contribute much higher amounts.

Ya they also had my dumb ass speaking and organizing it at the last one. More capable hands should help this time

Hey fuck off for taking shots at people from Dallas. I bought a few tickets and did not even get to go but am perfectly happy supporting NIL efforts. Although I haven’t lived in the Dallas area in over 25 years I take offense at the notion that we all have frosted tip hair and drive a BMW 3 series. That’s only *most* of the people from Dallas.

RGBIII used your donation for entry, fyi. In any event, Dallas can blow me.

To be clear, TOF agrees. The people donating $5/month to $5k/year are vital to make this thing become the machine we all want. The $5k-$50k/year are also critical. The DFW event, however for this time, was requested by a group guaranteeing a minimum of a large number. There will be more to come in DFW later this spring. I am pretty skeptical personally about the value of the first DFW meeting, but we’ll see. The Houston event already looks like immediate dividends are large and so is the new interest from previous fallow fields.

Do you have any insight into the plans to drive visibility in the $5-$10/month crowd?  I setup a small recurring donation but I wouldn't have known anything about TOF if I wasn't on surly.  I think I saw one email sent from Longhorn Foundation but curious how to spread the message beyond the LF members as that is where the real scale could be achieved

It would be ideal if the LHF points could be figured out before season ticket renewals.  My brother and I have season tickets and I'd much rather at least a portion of the $ I have to spend go to TOF instead of everything going to LHF.

I doubt LHF would ever allow you to shift the donation portion of the season tickets to TOF.  I think the ask is that any extra money above and beyond the donation portion of season tickets accrues points like other general donations to UT.

I think we are going to settle on $150 a month to Texas One as a starting point. Coincidentally- I just found a program through one of my vendors where they will use my loyalty points to donate 150 a month to the charity of my choice.
I’d rather fine 100 other people on here to give 200k to Duce Robinson as @closetojumpingoff handedly suggested, but as that doesn’t look likely to happen that’s our next step above and beyond Burnt Endz and other site giveaways.

If they can incorporate it into the checkout or cart process for your donations/ticket purchases that would be elite. Like a section with a value slot and have some text like the following:

“Would you like to donate to Texas One Fund?”
<Space to Enter Donation amount here>

<Drop down menu option to make one time or recurring>

<Drop down menu for frequency of recurring payment>

[Paragraph saying it’s tax deductible under the tax code here]
