I guess we will find out just how good this whiz kid offensive co-ordinator is without his starting quarterback.

If he can somehow meld together a somewhat effective offensive with Hawkins at quarterback he is worth every penny, but based upon on the Palouse's version of Johnny Football still has shitty footwork, shitty progressions, and shitty decision making after working with him a couple of years this could be very interesting with Hawkins.

This really shouldn’t require explanation. Those mother fuckers are the luckiest sons of bitches and when they win and win again bad shit happens. There is no boomer sooner rollercoaster meme for a reason. And any mother fucker that needs this principle explained, that you never ever cheer for OU, is a USDA Prime Imbecile.

It wasn’t hard to know what was coming. We’d seen it plenty. Rooting for OU only made you end up feeling like an idiot, or should have.  You sound like one of the guys trying to reason with us that day at BW3. Just wrong and confused and rationalizing anyway. Wrong wrong wrong.

Never cheer for OU, ever. If OU is playing the Taliban, I’m wearing a turban or whatever the fuck garb they’ve got going. If Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Mao and Mussolini have been summoned by Satan on the opposing sidelines to lead the charge against the sooners, I’m face painted with a pentagram and swearing allegiance to the Prince of Darkness.

Never cheer for OU.

While I generally share the sentiment about OU, the fact remains that the ONLY chance we had was for Tech to lose. Period. I wanted Texas to win the MNC and I was astute enough to realize OU had to beat Tech for that to happen. I sure didn't want Tech to look like West Texas roadkill and for OU to win in a blowout, which is what happened. Even then,  the final BCS result was microscopically thin. I rooted for the only outcome which could help Texas, a Tech loss. I didn't feel like an idiot then nor do I feel like one now.

Tech was undefeated and would have been the South Division champs if they beat OU  leaving us on the outside looking in.  We needed Tech to win to force the three way tie. One of the only times in my life I rooted for OU.

Two things:

1. who you root for doesn’t affect the game, unless you’re on the officiating crew. So, why pull for OU?
2. Tech could win, and lose to Missouri in the B12 CG and Texas could be voted into the BCS CG above them.

You may not feel like an idiot, but we’re all pointing and laughing at you looking like one on this anyway.

Dr Payne clipped my ball sack 15 years ago on a Friday. I was on Caddo Lake fishing Sunday so, you know, not really that intimidating.

Okay, I’ll go. Not a doctor but just experienced first hand some trauma for someone right in the same body region.

My middle son just broke his forearm at the wrist in the most Tim Krumrie/Joe Theisman fashion possible. Nothing but skin and tendon holding his hand to his body. 11 Y0 in warmups for his first tackle football game ever. Gruesome shit they wouldn’t replay on a telecast.

Took the ER room with 4 people to make 4 attempts before successfully resetting it, per an ER doc. We weren’t in there while they did it. That was on a Friday night. The recommended orthopedist saw us on Monday morning, he had surgery with a pin placement on Tuesday, and they put him in a hard cast 8 days later. That was last Wednesday. If everything is okay, he gets the cast removed in 3 more weeks and then has 2-4 weeks of rehab and can go back to baseball and basketball if he’s pain free.

Anyone saying Mateer will be back in 3-4 weeks is completely full of shit. Bet the over.

Sorry didn't log in for a spell. Preliminary de rigueur never happy about injury to a person but haha to OU. Will OU try to play Mateer in a month? Maybe. Is he stupid enough to play then? Unlikely. Will his fracture be healed? No. It will not. I am unsure exactly the nature of his fracture, but if the rumors that it is a thumb fracture requiring surgery are true, I have a hard time imagining myself letting him throw within the first six weeks.

Sorry about your kid, CTJ. Average non-ortho, even ER, docs are bad at reducing all but the easiest chip-shot fractures. Kids with open growth plates heal about twice as fast as healthy young adults as a general rule. If the kid has a mid-forearm fracture, it won't be full strength until at least 6 months, but it should heal decently on the schedule you mentioned. Fractures closer to the wrist are solid once healed.

It's been 16 years since we beat blOU in back-to-back seasons and retained the Golden Hat.

I don't care if a tornado sweeps away blOU's entire QB room and they have to slap a helmet on some random methhead under a Norman overpass. We need to fucking beat them.

God that was painful to read. We haven’t beaten them back to back since I was in high school…

Didn't Leach rank OU several spots above us, giving them the fraction of a point they needed to play in the B12CG? I've never understood the love affair with him on Texas message boards.

Because he said stuff about Aggie that is it.

Ah. I assumed everyone knows that's become more of a tongue-in-cheek joke at this point, but I guess not.

The bet is still live, and I still might lose it, but I think everyone is in agreement the Livingstone is a pleasant surprise and a good addition to the WR room.

Just prepare for him to start,  this is ou, so its a solid chance they're full of shit. Their next opponent is Kent State, then us.

That sure would be something. Fake a surgery, get a makeup crew to make it look real, wrap it up, and out he comes like their savior.

Wouldn’t put it past them, not one bit.

Or rushing him back, even being to his detriment.

Or we get the dickweed we smoked last year.

Who knows.

No. "Good news" would have been "Hey, we fucked up the xray, we opened the hand up and it was fine, so we stitched him back up. He'll be good in a week."

What Satya posted was just "news" that he was feverishly attempting to squint into jerk-off material.

Ian Boyd posted that the surgery stabilizes the thumb, and that there really isn’t much risk of worsening the injury after a couple of weeks. It comes down to whether he can grip and throw the football. That may take more time. Or not.

Mateer also has a sprained knee. That could use some rest, too.

I think there is a good chance Mateer can play. I don’t know how much of a chance there is that he doesn’t play.

In2009, the Sooners rushed Bradford back from a first week knee sprain to play in the RRS. He worsened the injury, missed the rest of the season and still went 1-1 in the draft. OU needed to win that game to have a hope of making the BCS CG. This year, they can make the CFP with a loss to Texas, but would need Mateer in good shape for their stretch run.

But they really, really want to beat Texas.

Maybe it depends on who makes the decision- Nagy or Venables?

Kurtis Rourke of Indiana played two weeks after thumb surgery last year. Have you heard something from inside the program?

They're literally saying he won't be back for a month. The only places in which it's being theorized that he's back by Texas are on the boards with okie mouthbreathers wearing tinfoil hats and the Texas jellyfish wearing tinfoil hats. Dari Nowkah was just on College Sports Today on XM 84 like 15 minutes ago saying that Mateer won't be back for Texas.

I shouldn't be explaining any of this. You are drawing a parallel to another injury when we know fuck-all about either one. Other idiots here are overtly stating that think this is all a set up. That Venables and crew would lie to the media, lie to the SEC, and publicly make up a surgery coordinated with a fucking doctor whose reputation is on the line. Do you not understand the abject stupidity of this and that you're chiming in to defend it? It's fucking ridiculous.

I’m not defending anything. You said it yourself. No one seems to know much about the injury. All Oklahoma said was that he’d be out for awhile and return later in the season. Why are you so angry?

Posted

Mateer was viewed as a top-50 NFL draft pick before injury. No way he jeopardizes that by returning too soon and re-injuring his hand. They probably make it a gametime decision just to keep the Texas coaching staff guessing but ultimately hold him out.

No, that's all Venables said. What's being said by OU insiders and talking heads is that there's little chance he's back by Texas, 16 days from now.

Also, angry? No. Derisive? Yes. Dismissive? Sure.

Can you show your work regarding Mateer being viewed as a top 30-50 guy?

I've heard that said on some of the ESPN shows.  I think it's helped by this year's draft eligible qb crop looking very lackluster.

Not all thumb injuries are the same.

  • Kurtis Rourke and Jared Goff broke the tip of their thumbs. They had a more simple surgery that involved putting screws into the bone to stabilize it. Neither was out longer than 2 weeks.
  • Drew Brees and Jay Cutler injured the ligament that's at the base of the thumb. They needed an internal brace to be placed in the thumb that allows the ligament to heal in place. They were both out for 5 games.

Just guessing from the initial timeline that was given for Mateer, I think his injury is probably closer to the one Drew Brees had than Jared Goff's.

Scott Van Pelt was saying he’s the potential #1 overall draft pick yesterday morning on his show. It’s not hard to imagine when you look at the season he was having, who would you take above him right now?
