Can Warby Parker fix "Bipolar" for Arch ???

image.jpeg.f65a054972ca426b7967bd1212287aee.jpeg

hmm, his volatility is getting more heteroscedastic with the kentucky game. he was on his way to a damn near perfect predictive regression data sampling there until uk.

we came out against kentucky and just abandoned the run from the jump. oklahoma has the #3 run defense in the country and we ran on them just fine, because we actually made it a point of emphasis. sark called every single play vs kentucky like it was 3rd and 8. arch is already limited enough, we didn’t need to make it worse with that inexplicable game plan.

When has that stopped him?

Its like @Derka doesn't even listen to the coach. Sark told us years ago how he calls games and the whole Sark loop. He explained how he uses the run game to get the second level to react then he RPO's them. Then when the safeties walk down to deal with the RPO he hits them over the top. So basically Sark is telling us he coaches by the numbers. Wherever he has a numbers advantage he looks to exploit it. So it should be self explanatory that if Sark sees Kentucky, a team that plays primarily zone, basically playing man coverage all game with extra bodies in the run game he is going to try and exploit that with mesh concepts and man beaters. He did that but we couldn't hit the receivers. So when we see Sark abandon the run just look at what the defense is doing for an answer why. OU wasn't doing that so of course we ran a different gameplan

I think the Mannings are probably fucking pissed.  They sent Arch to Texas thinking we were going to surround him with talent.  Instead, we went through offseason with this dog shit Oline.  Not saying Arch doesn't have his issues, which he does.  But he would certainly look way fucking better if the Oline could block and run block.

Exactly

He’s not surrounded by the talent they expected and he’s looking like shit. The mannings aren’t here for the money. They’re after legacy and a long NFL career. Arch is getting killed, humiliated, dragged by the internet, and he’s fucking miserable. Why wouldn’t he transfer after this season?

If Sarkisian would fire his cuddle buddy Kyle Flood and actually hire an o-line coach that knows what the fuck they're doing, and how to recruit anything above a 3* we could probably get this shit shored up. I believe Flood is gone after the season, and not because Sark is doing it, but because CDC is making him do it. The jury is out on Milwee, but it ain't looking good for development of QBs so far for him.

Arch Manning is a redshirt sophomore and has now thrown 284 career passes at Texas.

  • By the time Quinn Ewers reached 284 career passes, he was a redshirt freshman in the middle of throwing for 369 yards and 1 TD against Washington in the Alamo Bowl, with no Bijan Robinson, behind a young and inconsistent offensive line featuring four underclassmen (Banks and Hutson were freshmen, Majors and Conner were sophomores).
  • By the time Sam Ehlinger reached 284 career passes, he was a sophomore in the middle of throwing for 237 yards and 2 scores against Tulsa. This was sandwiched between the demoralizing 29-34 loss to Maryland and the uplifting 37-14 win over 22nd-ranked USC that started a six-game winning streak.
  • By the time Garrett Gilbert reached 284 career passes, he was a sophomore in the middle of throwing for 344 yards, 2 TDs and 3 INTs in a humiliating loss to Iowa State at DKR that sounded the death knell for the 2010 season.
  • By the time Colt McCoy reached 284 career passes, he was a redshirt freshman in the middle of throwing for 308 yards and 2 TDs against Iowa in the Alamo Bowl, tying the NCAA record for most touchdown passes by a freshman.
  • By the time Vince Young reached 284 career passes, he was a redshirt sophomore in the middle of throwing for 278 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs and rushing for 123 yards and a score during our dramatic 56-35 comeback win against Okie Lite.

Point is, the "He just needs more time and experience" excuse isn't going to cut it anymore. Ewers and Ehlinger had all shown significant, obvious improvement at the same point in their careers despite playing behind struggling offensive lines. McCoy was legitimately one of the best freshman QBs in the country (he had a much better O-line, of course). VY was still very inconsistent as a passer but had gamebreaking ability as a runner to make up for it. Note that VY, McCoy and Gilbert were all saddled with GDGD as a playcaller, and Ehlinger had to deal with Herman using him as a fullback every other play.

Only Gilbert had not shown any real improvement or any hint of a signature performance at this point in his career, and we all know how it ended. Like Manning, he had a subpar offensive line, a lack of elite WR talent, and subpar offensive playcalling to work with.

I know this was meant as an indictment of Arch, but I kind of didn't read it that way

Oh he’s gone gone. Ole Miss will be a nice spot for him the next 2 years.

I've made peace with us definitely not replacing Arch. Run game needs to improve, which should lead to more pass blocking success, and he has got to limit these throwing blunders - he has shown he can no so much better than what we saw at UK, but we've got to help him and he's got to help himself.

If we can do that, our defense will be well rested enough to keep us in any game. Except maybe Georgia.

Arch isn't leaving. The Manning family plan was to have him sit two years and play two. They're not changing course because of fan/internet noise. He's been not great and has acknowledged that. If season plays out as is, I do think we'll go get OL help for next year. Only question is can they fix enough now.

Yeah, I've been trying to figure out how this current offense could salvage their season going forward.  Just move the damn chains more, get more 1st downs, and hopefully score 24+ points/game.

Is there a run blocking scheme that this current o-line can actually execute consistently??  What pass plays can Sark use early in games to give Arch more confidence and success??  What can Sark, Flood, and Banks do to produce better blocking results??

May just have to dumb some things down, and work on a smaller list of offensive plays for awhile.  Then just practice the hell out of those plays so the offense executes them properly.

This offense has to quit shooting themse!ves in the foot with dumb mistakes...

Yeah I think he can get there after ~3 years on an NFL practice squad. At the end of the day, the NFL still wants nothing more than a Manning to be a starting QB somewhere, so they'll give him all the time/chances in the world to develop.

He could have benefited from a good JuCo program where he played for 2 years before transferring to a Div 1 program and maybe got to platoon (play only 4 games?) the first year before taking over full time in his 4th year of college. Maybe he even does the Diego Pavia thing and does JuCo, then smaller college, then Power 4 his 4th & 5th or maybe 5th & 6th year of college.

…T H E N… he heads to the NFL.

It would be nice if he'd show some progress towards that but all I'm seeing is consistent shittiness. I agree that the oline sucks but he misses wide open receivers more than he hits them.

Huh? No disrespect but the way this is worded is tough to understand. Caldwell had thrown 10 passes and completed 7 of them, including the one in the Florida game. Now I wanna make it clear that I am not advocating for him to come in. Just pointing out that he dropped back and threw the ball with no issues and the very next play the O-line went right back to Arch running for his life.

I am sorry you are having problems understanding the words I have crafted. This is a conversation on a bulletin board so perhaps my perfect prose is not perfect, nor should it be.

I'll put it in bullet points to make it easier.

-Your evaluation of Caldwell and Manning is not  fair.

- Limited reps by Caldwell cannot be judged the same as Arch's constant barrage due to the wet toilet paper soft line.

-If you discount Arch's success against lesser opponents you should probably do the same with Caldwell when he is throwing against scrubs (One play against UofM can't capture the affect of PTSD of getting Gorilla raped for 40-60 reps)

A couple years ago Saban benched his QB and made him sit next to him on the sideline the entire game. Perhaps, this week would be ideal for a learning moment. Doubt Sark has it in him with no wiggle room left on the schedule. That said, I think that QB won a Super Bowl last year.

Arch is so fucking bad it’s hard to be worse. If we lose another game there is no reason not to try something different. Why after decades of bitching for backup QBs can we not use a backup QB when we desperately need to?

I have stated I do not want Arch replaced, but seeing Caldwell come in and get the ball out significantly faster without issue behind the same offensive line tells me that this line isnt as bad as we think it is.

What? Most people see the issues on offense are systemic. Makes a shit who is in there its been like this for years. Bijan Robinson was struggling behind this line for crying out loud. Truth be told most of the people who were saying it was Ewers are now blaming the appropriate issues. Weird how we couldn't identify those things last year.

It wasn't so much I was saying it was Ewers as it was hoping it was Ewers. Turns out the problem is Sark and that sucks.

Your shit filled brain doesn't process that people are clearly disappointed and pissed about Arch's play so far this season. But they aren't whinging enough for your tastes, they need to cry and complain and blame Arch for all of our offense's struggles. And to do it everyday, multiple times a day.  Nevermind the historically shitty o-line play, inconsistent running game, and a HC/OC that is throwing shit on the wall to come up with an offensive game plan.

We had to bring in a transfer from Troy because our HC wasn't comfortable with the backup QB situation. Looking at the alternative to Arch, there's not a lot to be excited about. Does the backup QB fix O-line play? Does he help establish a running game.? Give us your opinion on an alternative solution. Don't just bitch, what is your answer? Should Matthew Caldwell be the starting QB at Texas this season moving forward?

This is different team. It easy to try to draw comparisons to last year, but the environment is completely different. Sark opened the year trying to run between the tackles with PA shots. You can saw the difference game plans make in back to back weeks. Florida the ADOT was over 17 and it was 4.2 vs OU. The pressure rate was still insane. Texas is 128th in pressures allowed. Arch is dead last in the SEC with pressures on 41% of his drop backs. They were 28th in 2024. The numbers are even worse when you watch game and discover most the pressure is coming A/B gap, which were very solid last year. Its pretty amazing Texas has only given up 13 sacks. I cannot imagine what the offense would look like with Ewers behind this OL, though I doubt we would see much of him if he played behind this OL. He probably would have died by the Florida game. Keep in mind Ewers was the 11th most quarterback-faulted pressure in FBS. Manning is in the 90th percentile with only 11.8% QB-faulted pressures.

One more bad game from arch and absolutely. How many more shit games from him do we need to see the realize he’s fucking shit? Why continue to trot him out? Because him getting better is just a crap shoot as Caldwell or whomever coming in and doing well

Ohio St - Bad

SJSU - Bad

UTEP - Bad

SHSU - Good, but they’re the worst team in the country or close to it

Florida - Bad

OU - Above average

Kentucky - Bad

So spare me all the bullshit.

I thought he looked decent vs Florida. I dont think many QBs would have looked much better facing 45 pressures. Lot of those pressures are coming from whiffs at the guard and center position, which is just death to any QB. How much do you miss your whipping boys Hayden Connor and Jake Majors now?
