no Susanna Gibson thread?

RICHMOND — A Democrat running for a crucial seat in Virginia’s House of Delegates performed sex acts with her husband for a live online audience and encouraged viewers to pay them with “tips” for specific requests, according to online videos viewed by The Washington Post.

Susanna Gibson, a nurse practitioner and mother of two young children running in a highly competitive suburban Richmond district, streamed sex acts on Chaturbate, a platform that says it takes its name from “the act of masturbating while chatting online.”

Chaturbate videos are streamed live on that site and are often archived on other publicly available sites. More than a dozen videos of the couple captured from the Chaturbate stream were archived on one of those sites — Recurbate — in September 2022, after she entered the race. The most recent were two videos archived on Sept. 30, 2022. It is unclear when the live stream occurred.

Easy jokes aside, I really don't see an issue here.  First, if your morally opposed to pornography, I'm gonna call bullshit.  Second, it's not as if she was being passed around Van Nuys and doing coke off her costars while being an irresponsible mother (I personally wouldn't take issue with the former, but frown upon the latter).  This is a woman, having sex with her husband, making some extra cash doing so.  I just don't see any problem with this, and it has no bearing on her ability or qualifications.

Bottom line, it's slut shaming, even though there is nothing to indicate she's a slut.  If this were a male Republican candidate boning his wife for cash they'd excuse it away as boys being boys, or look at how business oriented he is.  So Bobert can give handys at a family theater show, but this woman can't make some scratch in her home with her husband on an adult website?

I hope she owns it, tells people to fuck off about it, and to grow up.

Lastly, anyone got a link?

Agreed.  And I believe both Italy and Greece have former porn stars in their legislature.

That said, I'm sure we'll hear plenty of "You're not voting for that whore, are you?!?!" in the next 13 months.  That's how Mrs. Bullneck will react, I'm sure.  I think what Susannah really needs is a tongue lashing.

Where does chaturbate fit in the pornosphere/internet landscape? If I were to guess, I’d say it is fairly dated at this point, like myfreecams (but not so dated as, say, Sublime Directory). I feel like cam girls have migrated to onlyfans and pornhub? But I’m not particularly adventurous with porn and don’t know quite what the modern landscape is.

It fits very well into the bookmarks of a browser I only use for Chaturbate.

Chaturbate is not dated at all and many of the bigger "stars" do both, Chaturbate and OF. Some "fans" and contenet creators prefer the chaturbate /cam experience while others prefer OF type.

Wait, didn’t our bought and paid for Supreme Court decide that earlier rulings that the Constitution contained a right to privacy was incorrect?    It’s just that Paxton is a good Christian man and should be forgiven, and obviously these people are godless commies.

Their privacy was sacrosanct.  Your privacy, not so much.

I think I agree with you and @RomaVictain that, if you are someone whose values and belief system align with pornography and public or exhibitionistic sex, then this should not be something that you think twice about. Or maybe it's a net positive for you and it makes you like the candidate more.

This is probably one of those things that it's an outrage and embarrassment to those who were never going to vote for her anyways.

My values regarding this matter are liberty and minding your business. Frankly, I'm not sure I should even know about this. She wasn't hurting anyone. It's not a criminal matter. She is not, as far as what little I know, running moralistic campaign inconsistent with her actions.

Your post seems to be a clumsy attempt at characterizing me as what some would call a sexual degenerate based on my statement earlier which is really just a briefer way of alluding to what I lay out above.

It seems to me that intolerance or condemnation of actions a person takes which hurt no one nor violate any laws makes for a degeneracy in the functioning of a republic that claims to be founded on liberty.

Further, it more than seems to me that a sentence like the one I quote from your post is an appeal to the intolerant degenerates happily destroying a republic that they've been convinced that they are saving.

Shame on you for distorting a statement in favor of liberty into some slimy notion of "values and belief system [that] align with pornography and public or exhibitionistic sex."

Oh, and fuck right off, too, dickhead.

I think you read way too much into what I said. I meant it at face value. If you think pornography is acceptable/good/moral/whatever, then this is a nothing-burger. If you don't think that way, you were likely never voting for that person anyways, so your outrage and disdain and "moral superiority" is a nothing-burger and nobody cares.

Is that a clearer re-statement of what I was trying to convey?

Edit to be clear: I was in no way, shape or form calling you a sexual degenerate or otherwise meaning to insult you. Apologies if it came off that way.

I'm reminded, though it's not the same thing, of the NY pol running for office with a big part of his program being legalizing sex work. And so, in an effort to "eat his own dogfood" he went out and hired a sex worker and filmed the whole thing to put his money where his mouth is: https://www.cityandstateny.com/politics/2022/10/manhattan-congressional-candidate-publishes-porn-video-highlight-his-sex-positive-platform/378456/

It seems this situation is more of a personal/private kink being exposed farther and wider than anticipated and has nothing to do with politics.

Many people do things that I disdain or am disgusted by. I don't like the sight of men in drag. I despise anyone with a Trump or Let's Go Brandon flag waving from a fence. They aren't hurting anyone by these specific actions. They're owed tolerance from fellow citizens. That's the ideal.

I don't know that the wide availability of porn to anyone with access to an internet is doing us any good. I suspect it is not. I honestly don't care that this woman is having sex on screen in the way described as an issue regarding her capabilities as an office holder. That she does it is sort of sad to me.

The pervasive national interest in sex either celebrating it or  condemning it doesn't strike me as such a good thing either. But there's no stopping it.

Great post and good points.

I think the one thing I would add, as you mentioned she's rueful about it and how it impacts her perception to do the job, which is wholly independent (unless she's crusading against porn, etc.). This to me just indicates a possible lack of judgment or maturity, if you feel like doing something you want to do will be perceived as harmful to the goals you are trying to accomplish, yet do it anyways. If she owned it completely (again, to your point she's not), I wouldn't draw that inference as a possibility.

We've seen politicians embrace things, which I think shows honesty and integrity, and it generally endears them to people who agree with their stances. As the kids say, let your freak flag fly, if you want!

Voters are free to use any number of criteria when when they step into the voting booth, and those criteria are certainly broader than "did this candidate break the law in the past." As an example, if I learn that a candidate used to run one of those shady payday loan operations, bilking unsophisticated people out of millions they cant afford, that is absolutely something I would want to know prior to the election. Some people wouldn't care at all, but for me it would be an automatic disqualifier. Televangelists, ambulance chasers, and guys that fly "lets go Brandon flags"  would get the same treatment, even though there is nothing illegal with those activies. Certain backgrounds/behaviors in my mind simply indicate a candidate lacks the moral compass necessary for the job. And those criteria are different for each voter.

I have no issue with pornography or sites like Chaturbate, but it would be naive to think nobody does. I also believe that when you choose to run for public office, your past employment/income is fair game for discussion. This isn't a scenario where an unsuspecting participant was surreptitiously recorded in the act, only to have a jilted ex later release the video without consent. She and her husband willingly chose to fuck online in front of an anonymous internet audience for money. They are certainly entitled to do so, and the money supposedly can be surprisingly good. But you have to own it.

From my understanding, this was all recent activity, not something that was uncovered regarding a long ago past when her life circumstances might have been much different. She's an RN, and he's a lawyer, so presumably they have the means to a decent life without fucking for tokens. But since they choose to fuck for tokens, I struggle to see why this should be off limits. She just has to convince a majority of voters that she is still the best candidate for the job. No different than any other number of personal indiscretions that while legal (drinking, gambling, cheating on a partner, etc...) can absolutely dominate political campaigns.  Once you start filing 1099's, its fair game. If it didn't show up on her tax returns, she might have bigger issues.

I will vote for a candidate who fucks their spouse for money over a politician who will fuck over their constituents for money 100% of the time.  Easy choice.

100% agree. Own it, hell she might even have to make the nature of that debate a talking point for her campaign, as its certainly going to come up anyway. But attempting to bury her past and instead accusing her opponents of a sex crime seems naive and a bit of a political miscalculation.

@Blotto, I don't suggest constraining what voters consider. I agree with you about the public knowing about charletons, slum lords, and payday loan sharks. This story is primarily about sex and sexual habits that are really none of my business. I don't think her sex habits say anything about her character in the way the aspects of those you describe say about them.

You bolded where I wrote that I didn't think I should even know about this. You may have taken that to mean such news should be censored or some other means used to prevent voters from knowing about this aspect of her life. I don't feel that way. The credible newspapers are in something of a bind with this kind of story.

On the one hand, the editors could reasonably conclude that the internet sex is irrelevant to the political race. They once did that with sexual affairs involving elected people. On the other, hand it's not their job to block news from reaching the public and letting them decide what to do with it. They must publish. Besides, somebody else will do so anyway.

It will be an interesting discussion when we're spending our last days on islands that were once the Hill Country.
