Johnny is an embarrassment as a human being and I’m glad he’s not ours and I get that he was surrounded by a very talented team but the dude could play and was fun to watch.  I have zero ill will towards him and hope he gets his shit together and doesn’t die young.

No shame in being a fan of Dat Nguyen.  Great college player.

those guys are polar opposites on the character scale.  Respected Nguyen, even before he became a Cowboy.

Manziel was obviously a clown in college, and spectacular flame-out as a pro.  That being said, I still appreciate how his moxy/ greed changed the business of college sports and forced their hand to recognize the players.

Who is going to email Jerry Sanchez and let him know he won the auction for $11,450? Make sure to thank him profusely for his generous contribution to the Children’s Miracle Network. There will be some tense moments at the Marquis this morning when he wakes up to this.

I thought the winner was Jerry Sandusky once I saw the charity for children. For a minute I thought he was out of jail and back in the football world. Fuck that piece of shit.

Manziel needs to give his Heisman to Mike Evans. His whole year was just scramble drills ending in a prayer thrown deep. The numbers of UT fans who care at all about this kid (who never won his division) is sad.

Don't forget about the part where he, and his university, flat out lied to the NCAA.

Back in the football world? Only way that happens is if art briles gets a gig and he isn’t.

Unless he does so on the aggy sideline because he dropped his vape pen, gets  in the way and elko falls on him. That would be bring the lulz, which is really the only use I have for the entire collection of fucksticks known as aggy.

I don't understand the statement that Johnny lying about getting paid for signing all that merch "forced" college sports to recognize the players.

Curious what was the byproduct of his lies, heck Sumlin begging not to have Johnny kicked out of school after his freshman year when he was a no one, or the Ags basically letting Johnny enroll in school but never go to class.

None of that was new and Spike Dykes basically did the last one if I recall with Hanspard and Thomas.

What I remember forcing the hand of the powers that be were things like the Northwestern players attempting to unionize or the judgement in the O'Bannon lawsuit, but feel free to correct me where I am wrong.

Johnny made his signings for $$$ very public & in the face of the NCAA.  The others drove it from the legal perspective.

Johnny made his signings public years  after denying them first, and  after the O'Bannon case.  There are multiple examples of athletes getting compensation for signings, etc.....  Ohio State is a perfect example with Pryor. Shit, I can recall all the way back to a group of UGA alums who were insurance agents who wanted to set Walker up with a summer job as an insurance agent in which they would relist existing policies in his name.

He was an out of control piece of shit in college who was used by another out of control piece of shit in Sumlin whose buyout was over $10M and somehow the Ags were so fucking stupid they dwarfed that mistake with Jimbo's clusterfuck of a contract.

Meh.  OK.  Inadvertent credit to Johnny 8-ball denied.

Cool.

The funnier part to me is that after watching the Netflix or whatever, I actually felt less sympathetic to him than I already did.  He's a shitbag human being.

Excuse me, Sir- aggy does not lie, cheat, or steal nor tolerate those that do.

Had to be guilty based upon the company he kept right?

I think my favorite fucking of Ok State by the NCAA was basically letting Hart Lee go states evidence and  letting him play.

He was a freak of an athlete. Know a guy who worked at Rosenberg Terry back in the day and he still loves to talk about the night Terry with Johnny Pittman played against Bay City with the Dykes cousins and LaBradford Smith.

Laid up on the couch after a hernia surgery Sunday watching it again. My goodness the money he left on the table has to be insane. Also, I couldn’t imagine if he was doing this now, the amount he would get from aggy would be insane.

"The NCAA granted Dykes immunity after he complied with an investigation during his recruitment process. This allowed the NCAA to detail a reported bidding war between OSU, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Illinois, which OSU won by reportedly paying Dykes $23,000."

My grandfather is a proud member of the Star Lake Spit 'n Whittle Club. He joins the other old-timers in their bib overalls, sitting on the benches around the courthouse talking about how the kids today got no respect. They relive the good ol' days, back when gasoline was 39 cents a gallon, a good hamburger cost twenty-five cents, and you could buy a first-round draft pick for $23,000.

That number is pretty wild compared to what Tech promised to an offensive tackle prospect.

I don't remember all the details about the story of the Sheppard brothers from Odessa High.  The oldest brother I believe was Woody who played running back at OU.

Younger brother was Daryl who was a highly sought prospect as a quarterback who signed with UH in a bit of an upset.  UH ended up on probation and one of the issues was a new car Daryl was driving. I believe it was a Trans Am, don't remember, but the claim was that their mother had used their house as collateral for the loan on the car.

One small problem, if I remember the story correctly from the Dallas paper, Woody also went to a college with a new car and that loan used the house as collateral , and the house wasn't appraised at a high enough value to cover the two loans.

Evans has 82 catches for 1105 yards (13.5 YPC) and 5 TDs that year. He had 5 catches for 40 yards in the Bama game that basically cemented Manziel's Heisman. A great year for a freshman receiver, to be sure, but he was used more as a possession receiver in Kingsbury's offense. It wasn't until the following year that Johnny and Spavital very transparently put an emphasis on staying behind the LOS and proving to NFL scouts that he could throw the ball down field...and many turnovers ensued.

In 2012, Johnny had 1400 rushing yards and 21TDs on 7YPC to go along with his 3700 passing yards. Before Lamar Jackson came around.

There are plenty of valid reasons to take the shine off Johnny's Heisman (the SEC being down with utter garbage QB play that year being tops among them), but the narrative that he was just throwing up jump balls to Evans all year is just lazy and factually wrong.

Fair enough, will stick with him being an alcoholic piece of shit grifter, who was raised by a family of grifters, and played for an alcoholic grifter in Sumlin.

If memory serves, EA preemptively pulled the plug on NCAA 2015 in September 2013, a full year before the O'Bannon ruling came down. At the time, Johnny's shameless post-Heisman self-promotion party, questionable dealings and travel budget, and the Manziel family trying to trademark anything they could were all over the sporting news. If the NIL tea leaves weren't already obvious by that point, Johnny beat them over the head with the inevitability of it all, and the NCAA's toothlessness.

I keep seeing this thread pop up and think he must be doing something to help Kerrville: a fundraiser, activating that famous Aggie network, or a least a tweet of acknowledgement.

Nope, nothing. I guess between his golf schedule and whatever bender cycle he’s on there is just no time to engage with tragedy in the town he played HS football

The lawsuit was filed in 2008-09 and attempts were made to get it thrown off prior to the 2014 trial because the NCAA knew they were fucked if it went to court,  Pryor was ruled ineligible for trading memorabilia for compensation in 2010, and any attempt to put any type of positive or noble spin on Manziel or his time in College Station leading up to the NCAA agreeing to play players is similar to the supposed Patton speech some old Ags like to quote or the myth of the 12th man as Gil didn't even get in that fucking game.

Once again, piece of shit grifter playing for a piece of shit grifter.

Should have done what UT did back in the day. Semester long test drives from rural dealerships
