Still wearing a huge patch that covers his entire ear a week later, for a wound that didn't require stitches huh.

The not requiring stitches part is kinda wow to me.

So now that the RNC is over, how much longer will dotard continue to wear the maxi-pad on his ear? His boo-boo didn't need stitches and doesn't require a bandage anywhere near that size. Unless he had a plastic surgeon make the wound look more severe than it was after the fact. But it's hard to believe anyone as vain as him would allow himself to be intentionally scarred even if the goal is to gain a few sympathy votes.

Hell, there's some sports where they put super glue on your blister or cut or whatever and send you back on the field.

Nuskin (glue) is always the better option than getting a stitch.  Super deep stuff they still have to do stitches on, but superficial stuff the glue is absolutely great.  NHL teams have more or less gone completely away from stitches for almost 2 decades, you can treat a wound from a high stick on the bench and the player misses virtually zero time (say a shift vs perhaps a period).

So in all seriousness, I’ve been off grid for a week and just catching up on all this, but has it been discussed that this isn’t some unique event?  We have had multiple assassinations in our history and several attempts. The last one being just over 40 years ago.  1968 alone had two assassinations.  Is anyone really surprised this happened, considering the actions and rhetoric of the target?  If this is the last time we see this, I will be surprised.

No one is arguing it's a unique event. It's mainly that this is an unacceptable path that should be unanimously condemned. What's happening instead is people are saying shit like don't miss next time and that it was Biden who issued the order etc. The divisiveness has been turned up not down. It's a bad deal.

I will always condemn violence. I’m just honestly surprised this hasn’t happened earlier in this 8 year span. On either side. Maybe I’m just cynical, but everything has been pointing toward violence for years. Mainly inflamed and encouraged by the right.  I’ll just be on the Ledge watching.

Look I feel this way true, but it's just not true. That's not what people actually are saying and feeling. We've done a ton of cleaning up on this specific issue.

Btw, the same guy who posted this dropped another nugget about Nixon being “framed.” After I asked if I’d been taking crazy pills, he posted a Joe Rogan/Tucker Carlson video. Naturally, I didn’t bother. Is this a thing in conspiracy MAGA land?

I chuckled when I saw this:

image.png.3163f1d5c290df87d29149f13d12a6a9.png

That was quite a plot.

We'll get a guy who got kicked off his high school rifle team to walk past cops, climb to the roof of a nearby building where adherents can see him and report him, and then he will take carefull aim with a rifle that has no scope. There's also no exit plan for the would-be assassin, so we got to find the right guy.

I agree that political violence is unacceptable.  I also believe that political violence from the right is unavoidable now.  I have several acquaintances who are full scale MAGAts who regularly post right wing violence posts on Facebook.  These slowed in the days after the assassination attempt, but never stopped.  They are too far gone in their fantasies to come back now.

If it had been President Biden instead of Trump, we would have already had Boobert, MTG, or Goetz file a bill in Congress to require mandatory marksmanship training in public schools.

Hey, how about this: I DO advocate for violence. When? In self-fucking-defense. When there’s an entire movement out there 1) actively murdering their political enemies (El Paso, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Charlottesville, etc) and they are 2) continuing to talk up how well-armed they are and what they’ll do about it, we would FUCKING INSANELY AND SUICIDALLY STUPID to not shoot back.

Here, this is just one of many such messages those types share (this one posted by an old acquaintance, service academy grad, and now full-on radicalized MAGA nutbar):

2ef32e9cf29a1a093a8c8cc6c25da84a.jpg

All of the enabling assholes who tell us “pshaw, there’s no threat of violence” ARE LYING. Not just “not paying attention,” they are actively lying. MAGA is a full-on stochastic terrorist movement. If they were doing and saying what they have done and said “in the name of Allah,” we’d have launched drone strikes long ago.
Wake. The fuck. UP.

I'll be tiresome, my friend, and refer again to the paradigm shift in this contest. It's not politics which is usually tied to poiicy debate.

-Fuck anyone on the left saying don't miss next time.

What would people on the right be saying had the bullet been aimed at the worst president in history who is abusing power to persecute Donald Trump? No, I'm not saying to model our own behavior on their animalistic tendencies. I'm saying that this opponent will happily endorse harmful acts against us because they see this as a war. On us.

-Fuck anyone on the left saying don't miss next time.

Is this as a matter of politeness and not disturbing the ears of the children? Do you use "saying" to recognize that the sentiment of don't miss next time should be kept to oneself? I think there is some validity to that. Murder as a means should never be taken lightly.

If you mean to condemn the thought of wishing the thought you mention, how can one stop that? One can examine it and break it down to its root: is it childish/feral response springing from hate? Is it an option to be considered due to the threat posed to people and institutions?

-We should not condone violence, ever.

I believe this sentiment is too absolute. It's civilized. It should be the goal for any society or culture. I'm serious about that.

However, we cheer violence constantly as Americans. Our mythology is killing the bad guy. It gets us into a lot of immoral killing abroad. It's too much.

Violence against someone who means harm to my fellow citizens, means to seize unprecedented power to punish political opponents, means to keep his voters motivated by fear and hate of anyone who is not white, heterosexual, or, basically, male? Is that thought of violence really to be absolutely not considered?

There are times for violence applied in cold blood: protecting and defending something or someone important or dear.

I said about a thousand pages ago that I was honestly ambivalent about the outcome of the murder attempt. I wrote that I don't wish assassination on anyone, but that I have a sense of poetic justice. I'm less and less ambivalent.

We cannot ignore the obvious anymore. We are not facing a philosophical challenge. We are facing an irrational opponent who means us harm and destruction.

Written with respect.

No, he was referring to the Japanese “getting over” the US dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
