While I don't like this move bc PK is a stud, I do think it'll lead to better alignment on defense.

Sark should have just let PK run the show but it's pretty obvious Sark has been driving the ship on hires like Nansen, Akina, etc which may not fit what PK has been calling. Maybe that's why PK supposedly was looking around

The vast majority of the S&C and portal issues are on offense.

This is an easy upgrade and allows us to have an experienced SEC-caliber DC instead of the woke pac 12 style of defense we have had under PK. Now he can go coach in california like he always wanted and Muschamp gets to return here.

oh fuck we're doomed

also LOL at all the hindsight "ackshually, PK's style wasn't a good fit for us" takes. PK's tenure here was a refreshing change from all our haphazard, undisciplined blitzing from the Todd Orlando/Vance Bedford years. We didn't often send more than four D-linemen, and we made damn sure those D-linemen were good by money-whipping those positions in recruiting and the portal. The grass is not always greener on the other side.

The real problems with our DBs began when Akina showed up.

Posted this on the other board.  For many of us, PK never felt like a good fit for Sark’s O or the SEC.

Saban said as much in the playoffs last season.  He said that at some point UT would have to play some man on D and be aggressive.  PK was a “bend don’t break” DC.  That doesn’t fit well with Sark’s finesse O.  Sark’s O did better with Saban style D.  That seems to be what he wants.

??? PK's run defense was always good...but 2024 was actually the only year he had a dominant pass defense.  2021(62nd in yards per game passing, 137.8 opponent passing rating, 67.6 opp completion percentage), 2022( 90th in passing yards per game, 126.3 opp passer rating, 62.9 completion percentage allowed),  and 2023(108th nationally in big plays, 61% completion percentage allowed, avg opponent passer rating 127.92, 116th in yards per game) our pass defense struggled every year under PK except 2024. 2025 stats for comparison 102nd yards per game, 63.5 completion percentage allowed, 126.6 opp completion percentage... so pretty typical for PK pass defense.

CJ Vogel saying that Pete K has been wanting to get back to the PNW where he has spent most of his life and coaching career.   Wonder if it is just a situation where the job had run its course and a very desirable replacement was now available.

Will muschamp was Sarkisian's original choice. He built his defensive staff with him in mind, but Muschamp's son was about the graduate from HS and Will didn't want to uproot him. This is a fucking coup.

The odds Muschamp does better than that are pretty fucking low. If PK really did want to leave, then fine. If this was actually a firing the year before Sark is trying to make a big run at the title, then this was a dumb move.

Yeah, there is almost no room for this to be an improvement.  But hopefully Boom has still got it and there won't be any drop off.

Reading those IT posts, if it's true about Sark wanting a more tough & nasty aggressive team, can we expect Sark to make a move at S&C coach? In hindsight, Sark should've hired Tommy Moffitt after the 2021 season. Since the middle of the Season, Ian Boyd has been going on non-stop about ineptness of UT's strength program particular when it comes to developing the 3-star & low 4-star developmental recruits.

Yes. I remember Saban saying it. So maybe this all works out ok. And Muschamp was Sark’s first choice when he was hired. I much prefer more man coverage, and LB’s that wreak havoc anyway.

Muschamp is a psychopath. I don't want that in my HC but it a good quality to have in a DC imo.

This program could use some more maniacs

Nahlin sees to think Gideon may be coming back as passing game coordinator.

That would be very nice and also make sense in terms of his ability to work with Muschamp and maybe take over as DC down the road after we win 3 or 4 straight titles.

Nothing says nasty and aggressive like Kyle Flood's soft ass O line and Jeff Banks penalty laden special teams.

GT would probably happily let him out of his contract there. Their

Probably 75% of the ST penalties could have been avoided by benching one player. How did that not happen?

We were trending  in the wrong direction on defense. I’m not sure what F+ measured in 2025 but we systematically collapsed in the second half of the year.  That was obviously led by the secondary but PK owns the entire defense, not just the front seven.  It seems extreme to replace him and not just the secondary coach but I do not look at the 2025 season as anything but a failure on defense despite what that ranking suggests.

I was ok with PK leaving after watching the MsSt and Florida games, but I was hopeful he could get his stuff together. Also, we somehow made Cutter Boley look like fucking Tom Brady as a passer this year.

That's not true. PK's defenses have had coverage issues each time we had youth. Nothing about this season was new. It was just unexpected on the heels of last year where we legitimately had a great secondary.

Moffit is a dinosaur and the aggy players have been consistently getting hurt like they had been at  LSU.

You are right I just hate how Texas has developed those bums Taaffe and Wisner and Sweat and Murphy and Helm

395 total yards given up. Our offense sucked in that game, but we were playing on our heels way more than we needed to considering the opponent.

It was a foreshadowing of the defensive performance we saw against MSSt

What's wrong with Texas' S&C program? This sounds like one of those things 9.95ers say to sound like they aren't making shit up. Most issues Texas players and coaches faced were between the ears. There were too many penalties, drops, passes in the dirt, coverage busts, etc. A ton of guys have been drafted the last couple of years and there don't seem to be systemic injury issues.

it's Ian Boyd.

He's the guy Helobius models his schtick after.

It's safe to assume that if Ian Boyd predicts a sunny day, you need to bring an umbrella.

Vandy tuned us up in the 2H, too. Georgia moved the ball at will on some possessions. Kentucky moved the ball well but kept getting stood up on short-yardage situations.

The secondary was pretty ass all season.

Not sure I understand the firing fully but acting like the D wasn't at times part of the problem is silly.

Having a DC who can coordinate the entire defense should make things look a lot better.

I understand the move if he saw muschamp available and jumped on the opportunity.

If Sark sees an upgrade at OL coach and he keeps this same kind of energy, then Flood should be on his way out as well.

IT has been pushing that Texas is not a very strong team. Waddlington has been saying that for a while. He believes they do not do enough heavy lifting. Lot of that is based on the OL. I have no opinion or knowledge on the veracity of that

Be prepared for more volatility. Even if Texas gives up the same pts per game. MUschamp is very aggressive. He will bury bad offense, but also get lit up occasionally by good offenses due to his aggression

I could see that argument on the OL but the DL has made a fuckton of 3rd/4th and short stops the last few years.

Putting stock in anything the people at IT say is a good recipe for being wrong. That includes a voluminous know nothing like Waddlington.
