You think the "better" folks are delusional.  They are...but FFS, they can't hold a candle to the delusion of the 18% who said "same."  What the actual fuck?  An economy with massive tariffs, rising unemployment, and re-rising inflation is....the same since January 20th?

We don't come back from 48% of our country being too stupid to fucking remember to breathe.

Most people don’t know what “the economy” is beyond egg and gas prices.

I am fully on the ledge with @Brisketexan. I am seeing it in my industry. We are going to see a collapse that will make 07-09 look like childs play. The cognitive dissonance is impossible to overcome. When reality is ignored, reality will find you.

Excellent sentence, and rock-solid truth.  It may take a while, and idiots often mistake that for meaning that reality doesn't exist.  Nope.  The delay just makes the eventual impact that much more brutal.

Warning alarms are sounding all over the ship, but they just want to keep pouring coal into the furnace, maintain course, and increase speed.

Sigh.

"They" also know how to profit during a market downtown.  A lot of people do, actually, but it helps to know exactly when it's coming.  We've already seen it on a smaller scale with their tariff-on, tariff-off bullshit.

But don't worry.  If the economy gets really fucked up, we'll just start a major war to get it going again.

We'll even fuck that up.  Civil Wars aren't an economic boost, they're an economic disaster.  So....there's pretty much a 100% (1) that's exactly what we'll do, and (2) the regime will claim that it is bringing about an even goldener economic golden age.

Trump basically ended the H1-B program with this:

1) Jesus, how utterly fucking stupid.  They've spent DECADES telling us "we don't want to let in unskilled foreigners who will be leeches on our system; you should only come here if you're a high-value contributor."  Then, in an instant, put the lie to that completely, functionally prohibiting skilled workers from coming here.

2) BUT, don't worry.  There will be a "special exemption" provision.  You can apply for it, and for "good cause," be exempted.  What kind of "good cause" will get you that exemption?  Well, a big fat booking of a coupla million bucks of hotel rooms at Mar A Lago will do it.  As just a random example.

Every barrier and impediment to commerce these guys put up is not a barrier at all.  It's just a toll plaza, and the Trump family business collects the tolls.

I'm also looking forward to the "record-breaking job creation" after unemployment gets up to around 8-10%.

And my favorite part will be when Trumpkins talk about how the recession was a lagging effect of Joe Biden's economic policy and Trump is a genius for fixing it so fast.

The H1-B program is widely abused.  It was intended for hard to find, niche skills but you have some companies with tens of thousands of them.

Then fix the loopholes and deal with the abuse.

People abuse food, but we don't fucking ban it.

Exhibit infinity of the Trump admin actually spotting a problem....and implementing a breathtakingly stupid and wrong solution.

"My house has a spider living in the upstairs bathroom.  I think I'll call in a B-52 strike on the whole neighborhood" kinda shit.

The h1-b system was already fucked. Now we will not hire qualified workers if this is the law of the land. My best employees are in the program. We cant hire qualified people in my field from this country. The barriers are too high for the pay, like most industries, he is actively wiping out industries that make the economy more forward.

It's almost like he decided he wanted to wreck the economy (for profit no doubt) and fuck over as many folks as possible. We are led by an absolute regard. Fun times.

They’re going to stop reporting inflation.  Unemployment is next.  Then the jobs report.

Este. Between the “body shops” and the on-shore outsourcing (bring someone on the H1B to train them to go back overseas and set up the off-shore shop) I’d easily estimate that the majority of H1Bs are either abusive or outright fraudulent.

Broken beyond any real repair IMO. Mass layoffs of tech workers, stagnant IT wages, shriveled market for American grads are a fact; big tech has been selling a lot of bullshit about tech labor shortages. It’s more likely that depressing wages via H1B is causing an American stem crisis rather than solving it.

So we’re going to chase off all the qualified educators (cuz woke) making our higher education worthless and also make it more difficult to bring in qualified foreign workers. Yea sounds like we’re going to really be excelling here. China is so fucking pumped on this idiot.

How long before Powell gets got?

His term is up in less than a year.  For some reason I don't really get, Trump's people are restraining him.

On Saturday mornings, I love grabbing a coffee and breakfast tacos at a nearby Mexican restaurant.

The place does a good amount of business with those ordering on door dash or Uber Eats. I’ve noticed a trend lately of older and older door dash drivers. It’s almost like older folks are struggling to make ends meet.

and if some are resorting to taking a gig job, you know there are even more who are just doing without.

So they’ll just outsource more.

Off-shoring and H1B are complementary. Almost half visas are not given to high-skilled, innovative tech companies.  They’re given to IT outsourcing firms, which then strategically transition knowledge and operations overseas.

After Amazon the biggest recipients of H1Bs are companies like Tata, Infosys, etc. Indian firms sponsoring visas for Indian workers to come get trained to then bring the work back to the HQ in India. You’re supposed to advertise to Americans first but they will print ads in actual print and the applications go to their “Global Mobility” teams and not even HR. Truly insane system and at odds with how it was envisioned, and the numbers involved and workload mean you can’t effectively police it.

This method is dubiously legal and might not stand up in court but H1B as it was conceived has nothing in common with what’s going on and the whole thing did need to be blown up. It’s the type of things Dems who care about the middle class should have tackled.

Crazy how there is no consequence for an Administration to issue potentially illegally actions. Worse case for them is that a future court rules it illegal. Then the WH can cry about activist courts and complain about all of the confiscated funds they have to return.

I hope that we someday get to the point of a reckoning where we have to add new amendments and laws solely to prevent another Trump-like administration. Of course if Trump someone holds onto Congress in 2026, that he and Congress put in those controls as they’re walking out the door in late 2028. That could hinder the next Admin from un-doing Trumps actions.

I have issues with Jerome Powell and Biden, but they found a way for the US to perform light year better than other developed countries post-COVID. They made mistakes but we were killing it overall relative to the rest of the world.

Counterpoint:  eggs went up a dollar a dozen.  Not because of Biden and Powell, but nevertheless…

It was for people who don't have much (or any) wealth.

This.  Hell, I bought my place at the bottom of the market a number of years ago, when mortgage interests rates were low.  Today, rents for a comparable place are roughly five times what I’m paying for my mortgage.  I graduated college without significant debt.  Neither of those things has been possible for people today.  In addition to insurance and utilities skyrocketing, a trend that started years ago.  The gap in wealth inequality started decades ago, when most of us were still kids.

Of course all that’s about to be hugely accelerated for no fucking reason other than bigotry and hate and that our so called president is a Russian agent.
