This specimen's notation and insistence on atypical nomenclature is insufferable.

No. We shouldn't build our portal strategy on a huge position of need around someone we need to measure first.

This is funny, we’ve got 10 pages of people wailing about Bobby’s quote that Texas generally doesn’t recruit the lower levels for the portal. And when they did bring a guy in it turns out he was appreciably smaller than his measurements.

Interestingly enough - the UTSA DL that visited wasn’t offered because he measured in smaller as well (per Bobby). Is Flood in charge of both lines now?

This thread and the Venezuela thread(s) are indistinguishable

If you watched the FCS title game, you know this dude is about to get paid

Reading through the Georgia board and they just got done hosting Tre Richardson and also think they are in a really good spot for WR Isiah Canion from GT.

Seems their WR number may be 2 so it will be interesting to see if they bring in any more receivers in the next few days while Richardson visits Texas.

It will be interesting - he’s a 5’8” wr that runs an 11 second 100m.

If you go to a Texas football website to talk about Venezuela you have already lost.

We are everyone's boogeyman, regardless of if we're actually doing anything or not.

because it is true. It is all about who is the most desperate. Any P4 team can afford a singular player. The question is can they afford a roster.

We really need Uluave or the Wisconsin LB.

Who even are our standup LBs still on the roster? I think it’s just Tyanthony and Cunningham, and both of those dudes are small. Cunningham is smaller than most of our DBs.

Atkinson is obviously going to play right away, but that’s it.

There's a joke about how unimportant size is and my ex girlfriend, but I'm too tired to sort it out right now.

Seriously though, this is college football. Measurables matter but it's not like the NFL. Taking a somewhat smaller guy who knows the position, is well developed, and has other soft skills is not a bad thing. Think about the little madman we had returning punts last season, Silas Bolden. Remember the play he made in the RRSO? Guys who don't fit the mold physically can still contribute. I'm not saying we should start 5 midgets, but taking a flyer on one of two even if its just to add quality depth seems like a good idea.

The other positive from this whole portal thing is the hours of entertaining reading it provides in a month when I’d normally be ignoring Texas football.

It’s been a great diversion during a few days where I needed to do some serious medical tests, which fortunately came good.

Having a little person play WR/returner isn’t really comparable to having a small guy at IOL.

Maybe they’re keeping the Wyoming guy warm if they can’t get other choices. But I don’t want the signing a guy who doesn’t meet their specs just because it’s day 5.

I'm sorry but is Flood the only guy who can't watch some film before actually flying the guy in? How are we the only people this is happening to?

What is the definition of too small? Because I think most people’s main issue is that Flood’s size fetish goes too far, and there are tons of good OL that don’t fit his narrow parameters.

I hope this kid is FUCKED.

hey Pete - what's the buyout amount? those clauses are often very much enforceable. otherwise you have runaway damages with lost opportunity, lost profits, damage to reputation. most sophisticated parties contract out of those damages. there are a number of ways to do that contractually, a buyout clause is one way. if damages are hard to know at the time you sign the contract, buyout clauses become even more enforceable.

not sure the NCAA and related rules on enrollment and eligibility, but nothing prevents this kid from withdrawing from UW and enrolling anywhere that will take him. whether he can play for that other team is a multi-factored analysis including NCAA, school, and other let's call it "operational" rules, the other is the terms of the contract.

courts are not set up well to tell people they can or can't do something, courts are best set up to award money for wrongdoing and if a contract has a monetary remedy stated in the contract, courts will almost always jump at that as the remedy.

it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

The portal has been open less than a week and other than at QB there is no position that has ‘closed shop’ and even QB, as the Washington QB showed, isn’t done yet

Seems to me that agents/players are getting smarter about working the system. If I'm the agent for a player who is a proven high quality P4 starter, I see a lot of upside to dragging things out and asking for the moon vs. settling on an early deal. As teams get more and more desperate with less options to choose from, you might just get that moon shot asking price. The lack of a spring window just adds more desperation as the portal closes. Using a deadline as a "compelling event" to drive irrational/emotional deal making is sales 101. There's certainly some downside risk to the player with that approach, but a proven starter will always have a chair when the music stops.

It’s starting to become an interesting spot for Sark. Many on here feel differently but I think this season was a massive blunder for him. Primarily on the OL.

He chose not to use the portal to fix it last cycle. Now that he’s forced to use it, he’s under real pressure to bring it up to a respectable unit.

Pure speculation on my part, but my guess is he’s tied at the hip with Flood for better or worse. I think Flood is in over his head. If they botch the portal? Hmmmmm.

Wow, what original thoughts that haven’t been repeated at all over the last 2 weeks

This is some quality $9.95 stuff. A bunch of gobbledygook that says and commits to nothing. All it's missing is the Looch standard, "they're trading blows" with other schools.

Hmmmmm

Texas went after guys from big programs with very motivated boosters. Did not pay off. Texas needs to focus on those really apathetic fanbases

The question is, did the time spent on those players cost them their PlanB/C/D?

Visiting Texas the sentiment is Texas has a real good chance to land him. Visiting A&M the sentiment is aggy is about to land him. Visiting Tech the sentiment is Tech is about to land him. What this tells me is that Coleman and his agent are really good at making sure everyone feels like they have a great chance at landing him as to keep the negotiation going and having no one exist the negotiation.

Holy shit. Yes, you are quite alone in your thoughts that Sarkisian screwed up the OL this year. Very insightful, a true thought leader around here.

This last sentence may be the greatest 9.95er line in the history of 9.95

"Where we're at is where we've been. At least from where I sit."

It's like a Texas head coaching search all over again.

If I’m Sark I’m drinking heavy this week and putting out NFL feelers again, this shit seems like it sucks

If he does that, he's definitely getting fired after he shits the bed in Arch's last season.

Plan B/C/D lol. Thats a good one.

Sprague, Guarnera, Baugh, Brown, Woods.

This is getting dangerously close to that Taylor Hamm list where he had all these guys penciled in to A&M and none landed.

Stunning work from Harris, Sark and Flood on this OL for the second year running. May cost all of them their jobs.

You know, when I was at Texas in the early 80s, I was a slightly above-average offensive and defensive lineman on my intramural team. And I think I have some eligibility left.

Perhaps I should send my VHS tape to Sark and Flood…
