With all due respect, I hope Gata sweeps you - and steals the toilet paper on the way out.

Mendoza is supposed to be back, and I heard that Moreland is working the game for ESPNU tonight.

Schloss said there are still a few players that feel bad and an update on Belyeu.

No. 1 Texas hosts Florida in final regular-season home series

With the SEC Tournament and College World Series seeding on the line, the Longhorns’ elite pitching meets the Gators’ power-heavy lineup on the Forty Acres.

As the college baseball season approaches its climax in this first-ever regular season matchup, the No. 1 Texas Longhorns and Florida Gators are gearing up for a pivotal weekend series at UFCU Disch-Falk Field with positioning for the SEC Tournament on the line as head coach Jim Schlossnagle’s team enters the weekend with a two-game lead in the conference standings.

These two storied programs have only ever met in Omaha (twice in 2005, 2011, and 2018), with the series tied at 2-2. The Gators claimed each of the previous two meetings to enter with a two-game winning streak in the series, as longtime head coach Kevin O’Sullivan is 2-0 against Texas in his career and the skipper is eager to add to his 750th-career win. O’Sullivan and Schlossnagle have managed 13 games against one another as head coaches — O’Sullivan is 4-6 against Schlossnagle during his time at Texas A&M (2022-24) and was 2-1 vs. Schlossnagle during his TCU tenure (2004-21).

Texas is trying to bounce back from its first SEC series loss, a sweep at the hands of then-No. 11 Arkansas last weekend in Fayetteville.

“I don’t think it’s a bad thing we lost. I think it was just a good time for us to recommit. So that’s been the message this week is just recommitting to our core values and what we do, and we know when we do that, we’ll be in a good spot,” Texas senior first baseman Kimble Schuessler said on Thursday.

Since it’s the last regular-season home series, the Horns will honor seven players before the game — Shuessler, right-hander Andre Duplantier, left-hander Luke Harrison, right-hander Cody Howard, left-hander Will Mercer, left-hander Jared Spencer, and left-hander Ace Whitehead.

Harrison, Howard, and Whitehead all have a year of remaining eligibility with Whitehead deciding to redshirt this season after spending most of it recovering from injury.

The Longhorns enter the weekend with an impressive 39-8 overall record and a 19-5 mark in conference play. Their offense has been a driving force with an overall batting average of .282 as a team and launching 74 home runs over 47 games. Key contributors include sophomore Ethan Mendoza (.341 AVG, 31 RBIs), junior catcher Rylan Galvan (.317 AVG, 13 HRs, 41 RBIs), and junior shortstop Jalin Flores (.267 AVG, 12 HRs, 50 RBIs).

Mendoza is expected back in the lineup after missing the midweek win over Lamar with the flu, which impacted multiple players, including sophomore left fielder Easton Winfield, a late scratch from the lineup.

“I think we’re hopefully on the tail end of it. We have a few guys that aren’t feeling great today. They’re going to get their work in maybe later, so they can stay away from people,” Schlossnagle said.

Junior right fielder Max Belyeu is nearing a return — his fractured thumb is healed, so he’s been able to get through some light hitting, and could potentially play some next weekend against Oklahoma in the final regular-season series.

On the mound, Texas boasts a team ERA of 3.49, limiting opponents to a .217 batting average. Freshman left-hander Dylan Volantis has been particularly effective out of the bullpen, posting a 1.62 ERA with 56 strikeouts in 39 innings. Starters like redshirt junior left-hander Luke Harrison (4-1, 3.25 ERA) and junior right-hander Ruger Rojas (8-2, 4.19 ERA) provide stability to the rotation with freshman right-hander Jason Flores (4-1, 2.40 ERA) set to receive the Sunday start this week.

The Gators hold a 33-16 overall record, but struggled in the beginning of conference play and currently sit with an 11-13 record. Their offense is potent, leading the SEC with 80 home runs and maintaining a .304 team batting average. Standout performers include junior infielder Colby Shelton (.377 AVG, 7 HRs), senior sinfielder/outfielder Bobby Boser (.332 AVG, 14 HRs), and junior-catcher Brody Donay (.318 AVG, 13 HRs).

However, Florida’s pitching staff has faced challenges, with a team ERA of 5.14. While redshirt junior left-hander Pierce Coppola has been a bright spot with a 1.32 ERA over 13.2 innings, the team will need more consistent performances from its rotation and bullpen to contend with Texas’s formidable lineup.

Power vs. Pitching

This series pits Florida’s explosive offense against Texas’ dominant pitching staff. The Longhorns look for redemption in the SEC from last week’s outing in Fayetteville and the outcome may hinge on whether the Gators can break through against the Longhorns’ arms or if Texas can neutralize Florida’s sluggers. With both teams eyeing for strong postseason runs, this weekend’s games are set to be a thrilling showcase of collegiate baseball talent on the Forty Acres.

“I know this — Florida is going to be ready to play. They beat Arkansas two out of three, so they’re just as talented. They had a little hiccup last night, but they played great against South Carolina, and they have a lot to play for and and really, Florida has been the best program in this conference for the last 15 years. Coach O’Sullivan, I think I heard the other day, in his 18 years he’s have been the nine Omaha’s times, plus all the Super Regionals, plus the national title. So we’re playing the best of the best,” Schlossnagle said.

First pitch on Friday is at 6:30 p.m. Central on ESPNU, followed by 1 p.m. Central starts on Saturday and Sunday on SEC Network.

I've been in timezones the last 3 weekends that kept me from watching any games. That was probably for the best last weekend, ready to watch them turn it back around this weekend

Can we clench SEC regular season this weekend? Anyone know the magic numbers?

If we go 3-0 and Arkansas loses 2.
