Thank you! 🙏🏼

I can only speak for the two sets of parents my cousins know who have missing 8 year olds but if any names of those rescued are learned these loved ones merely want updates.

my cousin’s husband is a sheriff in a neighboring county so I am also getting updates and I will post anything I learn (besides names of those found deceased.)

is there a way we can start a surly fundraiser?

They are one of my recurring monthly donations. Run by Chef Jose Andres. They do amazing work.

I make it a point to eat at one of his restaurants anytime I’m in a city that has one.

Not that it matters, but is Mystic a "Christian" camp? That's the first time I've seen it referenced that way.

That Twitter account is garbage. It’s full of conspiracy theory trash. I wish people would verify their sources before posting.

That's seems to be what they say on their own website.

Mystic is an incredible Christian camp for girls.

The presser is on live on Fox 7 Austin right now. They will be providing more information right now. I do realize much of it will be tragic still praying for some good news.

The sheriff says right now they have all the resources they need. They have 24 fatalities and are still updating next of kin.

World Central Kitchen has a good reputation, and they are on their way.

If they determine their resources are needed, you can presumably donate on the homepage.

My employer, and I’d guess many others, have WCK on their list of donation matching.   If your company has such a program, check for them.

Unfortunately another nonprofit that will be needing assistance down the road will be Texas Equusearch. They will be helping with recovery efforts and I have volunteered with them in the past. They have done so many amazing things. It’s just that their job is finding the missing. And I know they will be coming in after rescue efforts are not thought to be feasible.

This is a challenge, but we have models. And they work.

1- Take care of those who need help. Food, shelter, clothing.

2- Analyze the impact and reality (this is what hurts)

3- Assess rebuild. What matters (This also hurts, and can be short sighted)

So what do people need for the next 96 hours?

Underwear and sock. Clean water. Access to a place to shit.

Mid term?

Assistance in debris removal. wet sheet rock is a bitch.

Sanitizing floors. Air Vents (Overlooked)

Long term.

Hope.

I was at a table today with some Longhorns and 1 Aggie. I said, hey, lets go up and help out. I have the gear. Only one who said lets go is the Aggie. @Homesickhorn is a good POC on the ground.

We are fucking Texans. Lets prove it.

As we start to see reality, and we all want to go in. Don't. Monday-Tuesday. Yeah, it sucks. But don't.

Do not start sending cash to groups, especially one like Nicole posted who used a Blackhawk in the post.

Just don't.

This shit ain't done.

But don't give cash or donations to ANYONE right now.

Could you dial back the condescension?  You seem to have some experience at this, maybe just try to outline your recommendations very clearly and let people do what they can.

Sorry, I hate I was taught to do this.

1. Do not overreact and try and rush in. We have Surly's there. Let them guide.

2. What people need is usually not what we think the need.

3. I am not kidding about clean water. The first think I tossed into my kit for monday were life straws. That is 100K gallons. Their water is fucked.

4. Don't send shit you want to get rid of.

5. Do not send medicine. At all.

6. Simple food.

7. Uno.. A great game. Fathers and Mothers worry about the impact on their kids. they overthink it. A game of UNO evens that.

Not trying to be a dick at all. I apologize.

Sorry I wasn't judging. Just hadn't seen it referenced that way

We had that same conversation at our house earlier this evening with neighbors whose girls went there 10+ years ago.

It was not a so called “Christian” camp until about 20 years ago and since then has been faith-based. So not a “Church Camp” but more of a Summer Camp with programs that are influenced by Christian faith.

Just got the OK from work to go in. Legal and all that shit. I was going in anyways.

so lets set priorities. @Homesickhorn tells us what is needed. We spoke. He is on the ground (or he says, never know with you fucks).

Anyone want to run a Surly assist run?

36 hours. I will go in 12 hours before.

Oh and this starts Monday

Organizations don’t get much better. They get 4 figures from us a year.

They got $750 from me, and I didn't have a "great" year.   Chef Jose is a fucking hero.

Sorry, they are a great group. This is not what they need to do. HEB is better.

Who cleans up the muck? Who cuts up and removes sheetrock?

This is PR. Don't fall for it. Basically, don't be @Brisketexan

This one yes. By the time the food is needed it will be solved. And he get 3.50 from me. But on this one? Nah.

We have brother and sisters on the ground. Go Direct. Shit, HEB will beat USAA, State Farm and the National Guard there.

My brother, please understand that people are trying to help however they can. You are an angel that you can help directly. Not everyone can be boots on the ground. Donating money to an organization like WCK will provide meals to hungry victims and relief workers. Let’s be careful to not crap on those trying to help.

You continue to speak in gibberish AND scold people who are trying to help.  Cut it out.

This will sound callous. It is a 72 hour emergency. The impact will span lifetimes.

They are not a food dessert. Worst thing anyone can do is run in.

Number 2 is where it gets hard.

Just got back from the area. The storm really messed up that hunt/ingram/centerpoint stretch. It’s total devastation. I have family and friends that are completely stuck just waiting on the national guard to come get them.

This is like a mini version of what happened in North Carolina/appalachia earlier this year. Us Texans can knock this out and get these people what they need. They’re dealing with losing loved ones.

Send your cash. I don't care.

We have a Surly TOC set up.

Gotta ask. Why do you fight?

Not sure what you’re asking but I’ll give it a stab-

I assumed all low water crossings into the area were destroyed or covered in debris but they seem to have held up better than expected. The state has been bussing people out, I don’t have details how the people get out. My best guess is they’re using military vehicles to cross a small stretch of impassible roadway. I bet the roads doing well is saving lots of old peoples lives.

To be clear, it’s my impression the roads held up better than feared and it’s helping a lot with evacuations.
