Game Atmosphere

I may be wrong, but I don't think the team can tell the difference BTW loud sitting fans and loud standing fans unless it is at some pivotal, emotional moment.

How would our team know what loud sitting fans sound like?

There are so many long ass TV timeouts in Fox and ABC broadcasts that there is more than ample time to sit down.

This.  It's not like a soccer match where you stand for 45 minutes solid.

2/3rds of the a 4-hour college game are commercials or halftime.

I’ve yet to understand why the fuck standing makes any difference. Pretty sure the team doesn’t look into Row 30 of thee upper deck and say, “Ah, shit. They’re sitting. Gonna lose today.”

I make a hell of a lot of noise. I don’t think it matters to the team if I stand or sit while we’re on offense. Or defense, for that matter.

It's fun to organically stand because you're so amped on a big 3rd down or whatever. There's no reason to be aggy about it and feel the need to do it all game unless you're a student and you're discovering Red Bull vodkas and Four Lokos for the first time.

If you have to think about standing or sitting, you’re doing it wrong. If you’re the only person standing the whole time in your section, you’re being an asshole. This is crowd dynamics. Dont overthink it.

It is fun to be in a section where everyone is standing. It is stupid to be in a section where you’re hostile because they ask you to let them see the game. Sit down and dont be a jerk.

The only way you’re not a jerk is if you can get the rest of the section to stand as well. Good luck with that.

Still pissed I got yelled at by a lady for saying god damnit at the sugar bowl. Fuck you olds

Hahaha at the Notre Dame game a couple years back a ginger Mexican guy near me got in a fight with this drunk dude who wouldn’t stop yelling about priests diddling kids. Three quarters of him just raging and his friends trying to cool him down (and drunk guy oblivious) and then he blew and dove at him and they both had to leave.

Hehehe..... Organically Stand.

Holy fucking shit. Way to really sell that Texifornia handle you fucking schmucky sock.

Anyway, Texas has and will always have a goodly amount of shitty fans.

Choosing to you know, actually get into the game is something fans of a lot of schools do..

Calmer than you are, dude.

Again, I don’t understand the fascination with standing. Sitting makes someone a shitty fan? Why? What does standing do for the team, Loochie? A guy in a wheelchair must be a really shitty fan because he won’t do what you demand.

I “get into” the game plenty whether I’m sitting or standing. I’ve traveled many miles and spent thousands upon thousands of dollars going to games. I don’t need to prove to someone who thinks standing for no reason is a virtuous trait that I’m a good fan  I put my money where my mouth is.

I've had it with a-holes that think they are the only one in the stadium and drunks, I'm sure you can imagine the largely overlapping Venn diagram on that one. The alcohol sales greatly diminished (I'll even say ruined) my enjoyment of the game day atmosphere. Silly me, I go to the game largely to watch the game.

Go ahead, be an asshole and stand all game, drink beer until you upchuck or pass out and piss on yourself or get hauled out by the cops (yes, I have seen all of that first hand since the beer sales started). After my family has spent 48 seasons in Sec 6, I've moved to the Centennial Suite just get away from the trailer park that our game day experience has become. Expensive, but everyone behaves with courtesy towards others.

If you sit down the entire game and actually make noise and get into the game, you’re in the minority at DKR.  I think most people advocating standing wouldn’t give a shit about people sitting if there weren’t so many sitters who only take a break from ignoring the game talking about their kids to yell at the standers to sit down.

The Centennial Suite also has the worst view in the entire stadium, but at least you get to rub elbows with your fellow oligarchs.

You must realize that it's very unlikely that people are purchasing enough beer IN THE STADIUM to vomit, faint, urinate yourself, or behave so poorly that you are escorted out. Beer is 95% water. If anything, they're getting trashed at the tailgate before stumbling in to annoy your ass in the stands.

Row 5 in the Centennial suite is not a good view, but rows 1+2 rock.

I'm just telling you what I have observed. I have no idea how much they had to drink before the game or where. Don't know if they took any drugs prescription or otherwise, don't know their medical history. DO KNOW that what I said was observed and factual. Do know that the Tech fan year before last had 9 beers during the game (counted the empties after the ... situation unfolded), by sending his wife and her friend to go get them for him. Do know there was drinking in the stands before, but didn't have these problems. I guess it would be pretty hard to smuggle in 9 beers. Enjoy your trailer park.

You stayed and counted the empties? Shitty troll right?

Speaking of Centennial. I hit up Centennial Liquor there on Guadalupe during halftime of the Notre Dame game in 1996. Smuggled in a handle of Jim Beam. In the bottle. I'm guessing its a little more difficult to smuggle in liquor these days.

Not that hard. Did it for the USC game

So you were counting the number of beers an opposing fan was drinking during the game.

Way to focus on the game.

I'm in section 7. I'm among the younger people in the area I sit, "And I'm a man".

Most of the people who are my age or older stand, without complaining, while the majority of the action is taking place.

In 10+ years in the same section I can think of maybe 3 issues.

You're singular experience with a single non-Texas fan is in no way a representative sample of what the majority of fans experience.

It's cognitive Bias at best or simply a load of shit at worst.

Frankly, I don't believe any part of your made up story.

Believe as you please, this is nowhere near the only trailer park issue in Sec. 6 row 59. I have no way of knowing (and neither do you) of what is representative of a majority of fans. Yes, I'm older than you at 59 and been in that area since I was 10 so I do have a longer perspective. And, as stated in a previous post I stayed until the (bitter) end and yes as we waited to get out of the row I looked at this big pile of cans and wondered just exactly how many there was. Funny how defensive some are about this number of cans issue. If you like getting drunk, by all means, do so. Just accept the consequences.

I can’t be bothered with all the back and forth, can someone tell me if I am a good fan or a bad fan? Judging criteria:

I go to all home games and the tx ou game.
I am loud as fuck, talk shit about the opposing team, coaches, fans and their children.
I stand up when shit is getting real (red zone, big play, 3rd/4th down stands, etc).
I sit down periodically at other times whether it’s a commercial or not.

Internet people, please validate my fan quality status.

Well, nowhere did I say I sit down the entire game. I just don't stand the entire game, except at the OU game.

I just can't follow the logic that says standing up makes a person a good fan, or that it even matters at all. Kind of like HS players taking a knee when someone gets injured- it doesn't make a fucking difference in the world, yet I have heard people scream across the field and make complete assholes of themselves over it.

You keep referring to people that stand and cheer as aggy or alluding to it.

I've addressed that point already. Why don't you go all in and start calling people derogatory names for homosexuals because that is exactly what you are doing.

You are making a lot of inferences that are completely untrue and have absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand. Seek help.

Quote

And spending a lot of loot so you can join the social aspect of a game means just that. You pay a lot of money to socialize, and nothing more. It says nothing to the level of your fandom which is far better determined by your behavior during the actual game.

Again, inferences that are completely untrue. I am a rabid fan. I just don't get the standing thing. You seem irrational and totally disconnected from reality.

i'm female and usually leave the games hoarse for a couple of days. i thought that was the way you were supposed to do it 😎

there was a guy several years ago on shaggy, can't remember his handle, but he was highly disapproving of introduction of alcohol sales/consumption at the games and frequently scolded and spoke with disdain about the rowdy behavior of the crowd. he used to talk about how trashy it had all become. sounds familiar....

The consequences being that some dude you don’t know anonymously posts how many beers you had (not naming you in the process)?

I don’t think you know what ‘consequences’ means...

To be fair, I believe he also said that the beer swilling Tech fan also either "up chucked" or urinated his trousers. So I guess those could be considered consequences.

I just wonder...if one claims to be so interested in the game, how does one let themselves be so easily distracted by the behavior of people sitting around them in the stadium. I honestly can't remember a single thing about anyone who sits around us in section 7, with the exception of a few memorable ladies who have graced our section with their perky presence.
