Vandy should be the concern my dudes. Ball control option offense. Low position game. Sleepy atmosphere if DKR isn’t lit. Could be like the Vandy or Arizona St game from last year.
We need the SEC Shorts Vandy pimp guy on campus to muster up some gaf among the students.

Call it handwringing if you like, but the only team we played with a pulse resulted in an L, and we looked like shit the next two games against shit teams. Until I see us put up a Sammy State type performance on an SEC team, concern is valid.

I actually think we are going to be able to run the ball on OU. They had a similarly fast defense last year that was flying around and disruptive, and we ran it on them very effectively. I think Sark will scheme up the run game and get some favorable angles to take advantage of their aggressiveness.

Key to beating Venables is to hit some explosive plays. You know he is going to have them slanting, stunting, and blitzing. It is hard to have sustained drives vs his defenses. You have to crease them when they are not gap sound. They will give you a few opportunities to hit big plays. I think Wisner had like 80 yards and 2 TDs on back to back plays last year. Justice Haynes had 75 yarder vs them last week.

I think the Covid senior thing has really brought home something that I should have already realized - super veteran QBs are a cheat code in CFB. Before Covid it was unheard of for there to be a guy on his 6th or even 7th year in CFB, but then we got to see what several teams look like with that kind of player running things. Obviously the talent level is lower, or the QB would be in the NFL, but the experience is a game changer.

It's a huge difference maker. Look at the best QBs in CFB the last few years - Ward, Daniels, Nix, Penix, Dart, now guys like Pavia, Beck, even Castellanos and Mendoza. The common theme is they all had multiple years of starting experience before they became studs. Experience matters a lot at QB.

I am actually looking forward to the Vandy game at home. A month away from home, against a possibly Top 25 SEC team? I think we'll be plenty lit. Pavia is a CFB household name now, I trust our fans to know what we're up against that game. If Vandy goes 0-3 before us, it could hurt the expectations of the game, but it would also tell us a lot about who they really are. So be it, in that case.

Update after 4 games:

-Kyle Flood still needs to be fired, right fucking now.

-"We played like shit the first 3 games and don't even fucking talk to me about defense. Why would I care about the Texas defense when the offense is chock full of fatasses and dullards who cannot improve?"

-The Texas defense is probably worse this season.

-The interior DL is probably worse this season.

-Guilbeau is probably going to cost Texas multiple games.

-Arch Manning is going to cost Texas multiple games.

-Connor Stroh is going to cost Texas multiple games.

-Florida will play their best game of the year against Texas.

-Vanderbilt is a fucking concern.

-Arkansas is going to be a problem.

-Forget the playoffs.

-The running game is incapable of improvement.

-Sarkisian has likely held nothing back for use in upcoming match-ups. We've seen this offense and it fucking sucks.

-Kwiatkowski has likely held nothing back for use in upcoming match-ups. We've seen this defense and it's just okay.

-Expect other teams to keep getting better.

-Do not expect Texas to get any better.

Florida has averaged 11 points per game in their last three. Oklahoma scored fewer points against Illinois State than we did against San Jose State and they have the worst running game in the SEC. Georgia scored 28 against Austin Peay. Vanderbilt gave up more points to Georgia State than Texas did against the #1 team in the nation. A&M's defense has given up 86 points in 3 games. There's a very decent chance Texas won't allow 86 points until late October.

Some of y'all talk football like Texas is the only team you ever watch and you hate watch every second of it.

The hand-wringing is just something to post and talk about until the next game. The mistake is taking any of it too seriously. But, what's the fun in that?

If we consolidate all of the bad play from players costing us multiple games into the same game, we might have a chance.

OU bringing the heat to our OL and Arch is a huge concern for me.

I believe forcing this offense to string together 1st downs and score in the redzone is the best game plan. OSU showed the world the blueprint. UTEP borrowed it and had success. OU has a better DL, than OSU. Venables actually has run the 3 high defense before. I am more worried Venables does that. Coming after the offense and you are opening yourself up to Arch's legs and deep shots. I have more faith in Arch's ability to hit the long ball or break off some runs than to be consistent (for now).  That said if they just whip the OL, it will obviously be very effective.

Tennessee and Georgia beating each other's ass up and down the field punishes both of them for this kind of ranking and invalidates the whole fucking thing. Auburn gave up 10 sacks and they're ranking in at 6. Okay then.

Posted

A lot of those Auburn sacks were Arnold being a simpleton.

Even with his struggles Arch has shown a damn good pocket awareness and ability to evade the rush. That makes the Oline only have to give him a lane to move towards and he'll find it to buy time or run.

This offense will be fine if Arch can consistently throw completions.

We may have the best safety tandem in the conference and possibly the country. McDonald has been the biggest pleasant surprise of the season so far.

I have Hero as the biggest surprise. Guy has an 84.2 PFF grade. That is #1 in the SEC among DTs. He was considered depth when he transferred. He is playing himself into an NFL draft pick.

I would have Littleton and LeFau next. Perhaps, I had higher expectations for McDonald. He is exceeding them, but I thought he would good based on his play last year.

It's a little surprising that Arnold didn't have any success running against OU. I watched the Baylor game, and he was very aggressive tucking it if his 1st read wasn't open. Of course, BU only ranks 80th in team defense and a putrid 116th against the run.

Kanu looks super-athletic on film, too, for his size. Kinda makes you wonder why it didn't work out for him at tOSU. Their loss is our gain.
