My freshman year I was at military school (MMA) and we beat Harlingen and McAllen High the same year.  I was on JV but suited out.  There was brawl between our cadets and Harlingen students at the end of the game.  Fun times. I think that was the best team MMA ever had.  We had it loaded with 19 year old post-grad students who were trying to qualify for college football academically.  No idea why big public schools would agree to playing us like that.

There used to be a group of well-heeled MMA alum with local clout who made that game happen for years. HHS wanted to drop it for a long time when MMA was uncompetitive. Then MMA pulled the prep school shit with D1 recruits who were 19 or 20 and that was enough. They couldn’t get a game in the valley for years and weren’t even allowed in the private league.

They did it in hoops too, one year y’all had two seven foot Nigerian prospects on the team.

Allen stomped Midland LEEgacy 46-13. Word is Allen looks good. I'm sure North Crowley will be their nemesis again this year.

Drip 41-14 over Vandegrift!!

We ran into Dripping Springs in the playoffs last year. Seemed like every one of their players was 6’5”.

I hope that Midland school never wins another game.

Longview spotted Lufkin 14 points within the first 4 or so mins. They then decide to play and went on to win 41-2.

Rough week 1 for Austin area powers: Round Rock, Vandegrift, Cedar Park, Westlake all go down

Don't forget Austin High (The original Austin area power) - got beat 47-3 by Canyons (obviously I am joking about AHS being on same tier as those other teams.

On different note - Holy Shit at Drip curb stomping Vandegrift. From winning state to getting face raped week 1. I am hoping that is a harbinger of what Texas does to Ohio State today

I'll summarize our game:

First half: Someone call the police called Westlake got robbed.

Second half: Someone call the police called Westlake got robbed.

Drip looked really good.  Expectations were down this year because they lost a ton of talent.  I'm obviously biased, but they had a great game plan and executed well.  Defense had Teodecki (K-State commit) confused all night and he couldn't get in a rhythm.  Great run-pass balance on offense kept Vandegrift's defense on its toes.  They had a few mistakes on the O-Line and that TD they gave up at the end of the first half showed signs of fatigue, but they bounced back incredibly well in the second half.

The biggest play that doesn't show up in the box score was a fluky deal in early Q3 when they were up 20-14.  Starting center goes down with an injury.  Second snap from the backup center goes almost completely over QB Ames's head.  He's able to JUST BARELY get a hand on the ball, and they're able to fall on it.  If that goes completely over his head, it brings a turnover into the conversation.  Next play is a false start.  So, 3rd and 25 from their own 10.  Instead of being conservative and running the ball up the middle, taking your medicine and punting, they dial up a wheel route to RB Gotta for 52 yards.  Punched it in a few plays later.  HUGE swing in momentum.

My son is a senior baseball player at Drip.  So, he's grown up with / played sports with most of these kids.  If they stay healthy, this could be a fun season.

Prosper hangs on and upsets Westlake 29-22

SOC is beating North Shore 35-19 in the 4th. Shocking to everyone but me

North Shore won that game last year 38-0. SOC wins its this year 41-31.

Credit where credit is due,  people killed you for saying North Shore was down. They sure looked down yesterday.

Don’t see it mentioned here anywhere but Desoto is losing to Creekside(GA) 70-28. Sheesh.

Didn’t DeSoto crush them last year? Edit: nope I’m an idiot and misremembered DeSoto lost 70-0 last year.

That 3rd and 25 play was definitely the game. Completely swung the momentum and the score to go up 27-14 broke Vandy.

Fun game, hopefully they can beat WL or LT this year.

North shore is finished as a program. Players can’t stop getting in trouble and CE King, Summer Creek, and Atascocita are all hotter names in that area. Even Dickinson is a program on the rise.

So in week one, North Shore got dominated by SOC and Dickinson beat Katy for the first time ever. Hmm.

Is Katy even worth mentioning anymore? When was last time they played for state?

I think they were the covid year champs. They also made it to the semis in 2022. But yeah a lot of their fans online think they are over the hill now.

Katy ISD has opened 4 new high schools in the past 12 years, all more or less in the vicinity of Katy High.  They protected big red about as long as they could but the growth in that area of the district made the division of talent inevitable.

Welp, we know who the Cleveland State of Texas High SChool Football is now.  Rio Vista ruled ineligible for the playoffs for allegedly offering "inducements to 7-on-7 players to move there for the purpose of playing football.

Their offense looks old fashioned. It’s a power running attack and they always have a great RB but the passing has been limited. Maybe it’s time for a refresh.

I don't think anyone here wants to see Katy relevant again.

Aledo 8 Lancaster 0 @half

Lancaster is already in a district with DeSoto and Duncanville and scheduled North Crowley and Aledo in the non-district. That's tough.

Westwood running the spread?

Seemed to be running whatever they wanted.

#4 receiver is good/shifty. They threw a lot of crossing routes and a nice QB rollout to weak side of field and D bit on QB run and kid was wide open for TD.

Their D isn’t that great, if AHS had a more experienced QB there was a lot of meat on bone. Also starting a JV LT tonight did no favors. A Drip or WL hang 50 on them.

2026 UT commit Kosi Okpala got some run at RB and snatched the life right outta my little Sophomore nephew playing safety and starting his first game on varsity.

Lampasas has started out nicely very considering they lost most of their offense going into the season. Bryson Robert’s is playing QB his senior year after starting at WR the last two years. Still good to beat the Billies by 38 in week 1 and then a foot off the gas win against Salado tonight. The one thing Lampasas definitely stil does well is the defense offensive line play. That is a well coached unit with really good size.

@Beau Vine’s Texans get a chance to be the underdog this year on their home field and thankfully for them there is no Ty Johnson there to get long TD’s against them. He’s the off in SoCal now getting national attention that just would not happen in Lampasas.

@Helobiouswhat's up with Harlingen this year? It looks like the sophomore QB that started last year as a freshman got pulled last week vs Weslaco and then got shut out in the Bird Bowl tonight

He didn’t really get pulled, it’s a 2 QB system. He only played about half the game today. We didn’t have our star RB last game but we did yesterday. The o-line is a mess is a big problem, Bubba Ledesma as our OC is the main problem.

The Dickinson Gators are putting the state on notice, 47-40 win over CE King last night to follow up their win over Katy last week. 2024 Helo Homie Lorenzo Aguirre has that offense rolling, had 370 passing yards in the win.
