This is one of those games I'll put on because I'm excited about the season starting, only to turn it off 10 minutes later because it's like watching a cripple fight.

"Dearest Martha

The sea crossing to the islands of Hawaii has been long and
arduous. Sea sickness is a much crueler mistress than you. The Stanford regiment looks forward to brining home glorious victory over the Rainbow Warriors.

Yours Truely

Capt Andrew Luck"

Is this game in Orlando like the Hula Bowl because Aloha stadium is falling down, or we still doing the 7th grade B team stadium in Honolulu?

  • Location: Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex, Honolulu, HI.  So I guess that is the B team stadium.

Good God, Stanford has some problems.

They are like the opposite of Texas.

Possibly the best (goat rodeo) game of the day?

Okay, here is my little prayer.  When Jim Harbaugh was at Stanford, he recruited great players but they were oddballs.  I think Stanford's plan is to get through this year and name Andrew Luck as head coach/GM.  I think that is their only hope to stay in the game.  Trying to sell the Standford diploma but also to push the legacy of QBs, O-Lines, tight ends and intellectual brutality. It can still be a brand but time is running out if not out already.

Pretty simple. Put up the NIL to compete or don't. Even Texas Tech understands that.

Not a coincidence we were losing to Kansas, then NIL gets instituted, and now we're preseason #1.

If Stanford wants to compete they have to pay just like everyone else at the top.

Ah yes, the "Standford diploma"

(Seriously, oddballs are their only hope. Their transfer rules mean they're basically a service academy now)

Stanford doesn't have to go all out on NIL; the vast majority of CFB doesn't. They just have to beat the lower half of ACC, a simpler task than the bottom half of Pac12, to get back on track. Their main problem is that they don't care much for football. They should hope that Andrew Luck is the Chris Beard type who can sell the promise and fill the stands. Once they are 7-5/8-4, they can target what they need through NIL.

It’s a hard ticket to Hawaii. It’s not paradise all the time.

I had a friend tape that movie off Skinemax for me when I was in junior high.  That tape got a real workout.  Hope Marie Carlton and Dona Spier....

Sad as that's far from her best work. Savage Beach had much better writing and plot.

Is it? The P12 was pretty fucking bad before it dissolved.

This season their only winnable games in conference (on paper) are probably BC at home, @Virginia and Cal at home. Unless FSU is really shitty - again - or they pull some upset out of their ass (which they somehow did twice last season).

I think there's a decent gap between Stanford and teams/programs like GaTech, Pitt, 'Cuse right now. I mean if they lose this one tonight they may struggle to win 4 games again.

Should Texas look to be the team to play week 0 at Hawaii some time soon?

Easy win. Fun for players (and their traveling families). Potential recruiting tool. Get an extra week off during the season. Networks would love the ratings, too.

No. Premium P4 OOC games are what matter most, get the most views, networks love the most and provide the best home games for fans and recruiting.

Book a flight to Hawaii if you want a vacation.

I would like that instead of hosting UTEP or Louisiana Monroe for the thousandth time. Would be a nice change

Yes, they are at the bottom now but they, being Stanford with their resources, location and athletic history, should be better than BC, Syracuse, Duke, WF and Virginia. With some NIL, they should solidly be in the next tier among Pitt, GaTech, Cal and VaTech. I am thinking the top teams and main NIL players in ACC are Clemson, SMU, FSU, UNC, NCState, Miami and Louisville.

How fucking bad is Hawaii that they are only getting a field goal at home against one of the worst programs in P4?

Are you really grumpy at a smaller G5 for not being favored against a P4 team by more?

They've been below .500 most years since joining the Mountain West. So they are a bad G5. That Stanford isn’t favored by more says a LOT about them.

You don't have to say much.  Stanford fired its coach.  It has an interim coach, and its best players transferred out.

I mean, you're not wrong.

Yeah I guess I didn't realize how bad Hawaii has been for awhile now. I figure they get a bigger than normal bump for playing at home.

my favorite memory of a hawaii football game was post 9/11 vs houston

seemed like everyone was talking about the game, worried because it was the only game on it could be a target.

there was a MASSIVE police force there

the game was super chippy

you could feel the tension in the game, despite these teams not even knowing each other

i dont remember who won, but holy shit the post game brawl was epic. and the swat raid on the field was something i hope to never see again

Huge defensive play negated by a dumbass taunting penalty. I don’t know what that dance was supposed to be, my first thought was that he was mocking the Haka but apparently it’s a TikTok thing. I wouldn’t know.

TD Warriors!

I reckon I knew that Hawaii had stopped playing at the old Aloha Stadium, or whatever it was called, the site of the old NFL Pro Bowl but had forgotten.

That was a really stupid penalty for the dance.

Very nice TD pass & catch for Hawaii
