It's impossible to know how many children have been abused because of Dobson.  Millions surely, maybe tens of millions.

I hope his death was slow and painful.

It’s a fucked up commentary on our society that this is politics and not current events. Separation of church and state, indeed.

My God. That was incredible.  I missed that when it came out in 2003, and now I have to watch it.  Thanks for posting that.

It's been a long time since I've seen it but it is so...good.  Brilliant acting by brilliant actors start to finish.

James Dobson’s book about raising the “strong-willed child” opened with an anecdote about beating the family dachshund with a belt as an example for what parenting requires.

Another Dobson special: he did a sit-down interview with Ted Bundy before the execution and swallowed Ted’s bullshit that porno and liberal society made him do it.

The good news is he is sucking Satans cock now.

In middle school, me and my friends caught some shit for playing Dungeons and Dragons because Dobson said it was a gateway to Satanism.

Damn, I forgot about that. Yeah, that was a load of bullshit.

Another gem from Dobson involved corporal punishment. Believed that if your child was still crying five minutes after the initial whipping, he should be whipped again. Just dark ages crazy stuff.

I knew a family that used his techniques. He suggested to name a stick or belt something like the “rod of discipline” and leave it on the kid’s dresser as a “sign of authority.”

Really whack shit. The kid I knew turned out all kinds of fucked up. And my dad spanked, but that kid was getting whacked for all kinds of petty shit. They’d tell him to go get the “rod of discipline” or “belt of correction” and go to town.

FWIW shortly before I had my first kid, my dad said “I won’t tell you how to parent but I don’t think spanking helped you and I did it because everyone told me I needed to. I wish I hadn’t.”

Never had my parents say that, but my wife and I had a conversation before having kids, and we both agreed getting spanked didn't help either of us. She recalled laughing at her parents, and I recalled at one point grabbing my mom's hand as she spanked me saying if she hit me again I was hitting her.

Our big thing as parents is to use your words to express your feelings. My kids do an amazing job of this. They drive us fucking nuts at times, but they also are incredibly mature and keep us humbled with their words. It's quite amazing to watch first hand.

I have mentioned a few times on this board that I am a paid subscriber to Defector. Albert Burneko is one of my longtime favorite writers on there going back to the Deadspin days before they all quit en masse. Today Albert did what he does best (Besides his articles about the Wizards) and he wrote a few things about Dobson. Here’s a gift article. Again I highly suggest subscribing to this site. It is the exact type of site people here want to be able to read and they are a couple of weeks away from their five year anniversary.

Edit: The comments after the article from those who suffered abuse because of Dobson’s teachings is rage-inducing.

And tonight that dachshund walked out to the middle of the Rainbow Bridge and pissed all over Dobson with a smile on its face.

Who?

You’ve probably heard of this:

In a December 18, 2012 broadcast titled "A Nation Shaken by the Sandy Hook Tragedy," evangelical leader James Dobson stated that the Sandy Hook shooting was a "judgement by God" due to America's acceptance of gay marriage and legal abortion.
