Beto wants to decriminalize illegal immigration.

Genuine question, why is this a republican talking point? Is it because their constituents are stupid enough to believe it? When has any Democrat ever said they want to decriminalize illegal immigration?

The Republican party currently exists of two type of people: (1) ignorant, gullible morons like stros, and (2) selfish, power-hungry assholes who seek power by manipulating those in group (1) so that they can pursue their greedy or racists goals.  One group knows it's a lie, but it's one that can gain them power so they continue to lie.  The other group is too dumb to understand it's a lie, and it's a lie that they want to hear, so they eat up the bullshit with smiles on their faces (or really, faces of rage against "the other").

Republican constituents believe whatever they're fed.  Fox News is fair and balanced, and everyone else is a liberal liar, and liberals don't get on Fox News, so it's possible to put any words into liberals' mouths and have about 40% of the country believe it.  It's the greatest straw man of all time.

Immigration and the caravan are not at all good faith issues for this election. They are being exploited by Cruz and Trump to drive turnout. That should really be the end of discussion. I mean I’m impressed by some attempting to be thoughtful but if Cruz wins he’s not going to do anything to advance significant policy change here.

Cruz’s tweet seems desperate to me.

It's going to end up driving turnout, but not in the way that they hope. I think they are guaranteeing more Latinx voting this cycle.

Isn't undocumentd entry a civil violation, thus not criminal?  Doesn't US law and treaties require US to consider asylum applications whether seekers enter at a designated point or elsewhere?

Good article on the issue and clarifies some things.

I’m looking to drive people to the polls Tuesday. After multiple attempts to contact Beto’s campaign on this matter I spoke with the Travis Co Dem Party.

-Show up at 6929 Airport Blvd Monday starting at 7am and get assigned as needed. Both as a driver and a caller.

Ask to see every old's facebook before you take them to the poll.

Beto wants to decriminalize illegal immigration.

AKA, "Change the law so that there are more paths to legal immigration so that we can get more tax funds from people who already live and work here."

People get so hung up on "illegal" that they fail to recognize that there is no moral standard behind the way the law is currently written other than ... well... Eugenics. More readin': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_Act_of_1924#History

And for those of you too dim to grasp the significance of that, perhaps another quick Wikipedia link as to why the notion has fallen out of favor will help you along.

It really is and always has been about racism.

Nice op/ed about this election and what it means to be a Texan.

Quote

Cruz Might Win the Senate, but the Democrats Are Winning Texas
Across the state, diverse liberal candidates are redefining its politics.

By Richard Parker
Mr. Parker is the author of “Lone Star Nation: How Texas Will Transform America.”

EL PASO — “What does it mean,” a man asked Representative Beto O’Rourke at the end of a televised town hall, “to be a Texan?”

That question summed up the most-watched Senate race in America. It isn’t merely a contest over political power, though a quarter-century-old Republican monopoly is on the line. It’s an existential struggle over which Texas emerges, with national consequence.

One version is being sold by Republican Senator Ted Cruz, the incumbent. A shibboleth of tall tales and 10-gallon hats, it’s a story the Republicans have been telling for years to persuade new arrivals, refugees from the Rust Belt, that being Texan meant driving pickups and caring only about God, gays and guns.

Most Texans know this isn’t true. But Republicans have made a bet that “their” Texas will turn out to vote in just enough numbers to win, as long as the party manages to whittle down the rest of the electorate through sleights of hand like voter ID laws and gerrymandering.

Responding to the video Friday morning, O'Rourke's campaign said that the staffers were responding to an unrelated incident last week in which the federal government dropped off over 100 migrants seeking asylum at a bus station in downtown El Paso. The local newspaper said that bus station officials then called Annunciation House, a Catholic nonprofit immigrant shelter.

"Staff members took it upon themselves to use prepaid cards from one of our more than 700 field offices to buy baby wipes, diapers, water, fruit and granola bars, and donate them to a local humanitarian nonprofit (Annunciation House) that helps mothers and children in the community," O'Rourke spokesman Chris Evans said in a statement. "The value was under $300 and it will be appropriately reported to the FEC."

Lol. Another project veritas special. I bet Beto waited for Cruz to make an ass of himself before responding. Nice move.

that's the worst thing they could find? and they bothered "leaking" it? I know it's impossible for any one candidate to control and army of volunteers, so one would expect some shenanigans here and there, but man, that's a whole lot nothing wrapped in a who-gives-a-fuck tortilla

I don’t know Ted, but I know people who know him socially.  To a man, they all share your opinion.  One of the nicest people I know - someone who never has a bad word to say about anyone - knows Cruz and described him as “a complete asshole.”

I love how this race is just a choice between good and evil, and that people are trying to make legitimate arguments for and are supporting evil.  Half of society is morally bankrupt.

My own mother. After I debunked her talking points (Beto is wealthy from using imminent domain; wants open borders, socialism) she threw out a “but her emails.”
She wanted to like him too.

Not all are morally bankrupt. The influence of Rush, Fox, Micheal Barry cannot be understated. Those fuckers are burning in hell. And Facebook. And Fwd, Fwd, Fwd emails

The fact you say something like this means you don’t get it (in my opinion).

I have zero patience or sympathy for people that cast aside their morals. My in-laws included. There's no excuse to be so willingly uninformed - but highly opinionated-  in this day and age.

Those voting percents are really awesome.  42% in Travis with a day left in early and election day.

El Paso just totally ran out of steam.  They had 210,000 votes in the 2016 election.  They are only at 123k right now.  Beto's going to lose because his own damn town didn't come out for him.

At least he can hold his head high and say he didn't go negative against one of the most detestable and easy-to-attack candidates in Texas history.

"I have my pride!" I shout at the cattle cars heading towards the smokestacks billowing ash.
