My wife's sign for our son won the day in Round Rock  Everyone wanted his picture. Great turnout, enthusstic crowd for suburban Wilco! Thanks to any surly neighbors who may have showed up to this, it gave me and my family a much-needed sense of community and togetherness we haven't felt in a long time. I was only able to attend for an hour before heading off to work but it put a huge smile on my face for the entire day and I've been thinking about it late into the night. Living in a red district with lifted trucks everywhere and all the maga cultural touchstones shoved in my face constantly has made me stereotype all the people I see at the local HEB or Walmart or parks in our neighborhood to the point where everyone who isn't wearing their leftism on their sleeves is just another fuckin MAGA goon to me, or at least a bothsidser idiot who can't be bothered to pay attention to the arsonists burning it all down around us. I've become miserably judgmental about the strangers who are my neighbors because I see so many assholes in maga 2A copaganda anti-woke shirts, hats, and bumperstickers  that I have gradually assumed that everyone around us supports these GOP ghouls. Seeing all the faces in the crowd from all walks of life and all ages at today's Round Rock protest was a great reminder to me that there are so many average joes and janes in my area who may not look like Portland Antifa, but they are allies in the fight against American fascism. This is what reminds you why your country is worth fighting for.

Ha I had to get y'alls picture. I'll send it to you.

I too was at the Round Rock protest (also my 1st) and let me just say ditto to everything Gourmand so eloquently stated above. It was truly heartwarming and much needed boost to my appreciation of my neighbors.

All I've seen is this from Alt National Parks saying 22 MAGA types were arrested. I've looked at a few sites but am not gonna spend much time on it this morning. It's pretty clear yesterday went about as peacefully as it could and just about the most horrifying thing coming out of it was Trump's video, which apparently highlighted Harry Sisson as the main recipient of the dumping. But even the Trump video appears to be downplayed by U.S. mainstream media right now -- it was a publication in India where I found an article about Sisson being the target of the Trump dump.

That's weird. The leaders of the republican party assured us that these were Hate America rallies that would be nothing but riots and looting and burning cars and shit. So strange.

Fox News will still say it was.

In Denver a few people were arrested for ignoring orders to temporarily disperse. That was it, afaik.

This was also Denver - somewhat lovely video of a magat trying to instigate and then disliking the result.

Nice shot of the crucifix around his neck right before he calls them ‘fucking f*ggots.’

I just got back from the one in Austin.  It was my first political rally/protest of any kind.  The crowd was very large, but to me it felt…ineffectual.  Im glad I went but I think the time for that stuff was 2-10 years ago.  I was surprised there weren’t more Trumpers out there.
I still predict we don’t get out of this mess without a lot of violence and an economic depression.

I was back in Omaha this weekend. My sister and her friends went with us. One of the friends’ kid is a non-binary 16 year old. They had some serious depression issues after the election. They felt that America had basically voted to despise them. During the first No Kings, they were deeply moved by all of it, but particularly people showing up with signs to protect trans kids. And it marked a positive turn in their mental health.

There is some modest political benefit of these marches. But don’t underestimate their value to the vulnerable communities that are being targeted. Don’t underestimate the value to everyone who thinks it’s all so fucking crazy. We’ve got 39 more months of this shit and we need to take care of each other.

My wife and I attended our first-ever protest in downtown Dallas and it was awesome. The last several speakers before the march were great — Kat Vargas and a preacher whose name escapes me and Chad West. It fucking poured on us at beginning but pretty good turnout nonetheless.

It sure would be a shame if someone found out who this guy was and let the world know. Feels like something that should be send to Tizzy Ent or one of those folks. Him and all his little friends. Fuck these people for being just complete assholes.

The preacher was Rev. Eric Folkerth, pastor of Kessler Park UMC and BJ 1985, The University of Texas at Austin.

I grew up with him at church and have followed him over the years.  Great guy.  https://kpumc.org/staff  https://ericfolkerth.com/bio

Heather Cox Richardson said some things yesterday that really resonate..

1.  These protests were not going to change things today.   But if we keep it up, they might change things tomorrrow.

2.  If these protests don't matter, why has the administration and their media mouthpieces spent so much time bashing them

This is a marathon, not a sprint.

i saw that video of that dude eating pavement, didn't realize it was in Denver but should have with the shot of Union Station in the background, missed that initially. so they obviously just arrived...

holy shit 😮 imagine traveling cross country to watch your team play and deciding to be a complete dick to locals the moment you step into the city. he definitely had a trip to the ER to close that head gash. bet he has a terrible headache today. fuck him.

Woke up and ran 13.1 miles. Weather was nice. Legs felt good.

Ate a breakfast burrito and a protein shake. And coffee. Black.

Went to daughter’s dance class. Love it there. It’s pure and innocent. Totally insulated from adult problems.

Went to No Kings and marched ~2 miles. Got rained on. Held my sign and chanted. It was great. FDT.

Rested and reflected. Browsed flights to Europe. Carved a pumpkin with kiddo. Her first jack-o’-lantern.

Drank a beer and an espresso and a coke zero.

Made a beef carpaccio and drank some bourgogne blanc. There were olives involved.

Texas football was a wet fart on our day. I muted it to play music. Gilroy? Tell me who wins.

Kiddo went to bed. Je t’aime et bonne nuit.

Made a vol-au-vent with veal and filet de boeuf. It slammed and went hard.

Watched a movie. Yahoo sports popup says we won. Okay, cool, hook’em. But don’t sign that fucking compact or I’m out.

Drank a bottle of Chateauneuf-du-pape and a bottle of bourgogne rouge. And some crystal light to keep it classy.

Had sex with the wife. More than once. Two or three times. It’s fluid piss.

Maybe I’ll run the other half when the sun comes up in a few hours. Or just brunch. That also sounds nice and easier.

Fuck that cheeto pedophile fascist racist rapist insurrectionist motherfucker and everyone who supports him. We’re not done here.

Little bitty Navasota.  I took these a little late in the protest.  There were about half again as many at the height of it.  That's a lot of folks for our conservative town, and we got a goodly number of honks and full hand waves.  Not nearly as many one fingered salutes as waves.  I was impressed and encouraged.

Thanks so much for sharing this and showing up. I'm happy for any American showing up yesterday wherever, but it's a little bit easier for people in libbed up cities like Austin, SF, Chicago, Seattle, Portland etc to hit the streets in protest than it is for people in little towns in deep red parts of Texas where you really stand out to your townfolk. That takes a lot of give-a-shit-ness and these people deserve every high five possible. Honestly hits me right in the feels.

my sister went to her first protest on the courthouse lawn in Palestine! 😮😊

she said there were about 150, way more than last time (when she just drove by), but she said the most heartening was how many honks and waves they got. there were also some counter-protesters there, she said 'the rednecks were rednecking' lol, but that it was all pretty respectful.

Question for the smaller-towners.  We know they are overrun with MAGAts and, as a general proposition everyone is up in everyone else's business.

Is there much day-to-day conflict?  Are they really in your face?
