The idea that LSU's AD, Scott Woodward, was solely responsible for Brian Kelly's contract is laughable. He can't make that type of financial commitment without the LSU board's approval. Once again, these contracts are a collective fuck-up.

Furthermore, LSU didn't scrutinize the Jimbo Fisher contract with no offset language? If so, why'd they hire Woodward from aggy if it was such a bad deal?

Try to make sense and don’t be irrational just because you don’t like another school.

Besides, Elko can always invite Johnny to come back and be the OC, right?

I said "cashing in".  He is NOT a good coach and is currently riding a wave thanks to Klein and an embarrassingly easy schedule.  If Klein leaves he'll be back to 7-5 or 8-4 in a good year and won't be a hot commodity.  If he cashes in now, knowing he doesn't have an OC next year, and goes to PSU or UF for $10mm/yr he can get a several years and a buyout before reality sets in.  That's a lot of money.

And if the board did neither of these to approve both Woodward's hiring , and before approving BKs contract thats on *them* for failing their fiduciary duties

Its easy to blame everything on Woodward, but unless LSU is different than basically every organization in the world he can't just do this sort of shit without review and approval

Gov. Landry is just grandstanding as politicians like to do in a "crisis". Woodward will be the fall guy/scapegoat if the LSU board decides to hold him accountable for a dumb hire and Kelly's exorbitant buyout. But they really should look in the mirror before pointing fingers.

aggy can probably match any offer PSU makes if they want to keep Elko.

The thought of Johnny 8-Ball coaching anywhere and being responsible for gameplanning (or anything, really) is some funny shit. Even aggy isn't that dumb....I think.

Yeah I don't get why Rhule is still considered a hot commodity. He has 3 ten win seasons, two at Temple, one at Baylor. He has ten years in college, half of which have been .500 or less. This isn't even considering his dogshit NFL tenure. I'm surprised Nebraska wasn't looking to join this year's cycle to be honest. Man, the Nebraska standard has really fallen.

Rhule's big thing is his 3rd season jump - they are already one win away from matching their 2024 win total and this is what they have left:

USC (at home)
UCLA (road)
Penn State (road)
Iowa (home)

Win 3/4 and 9-3 season will be considered really good

Lol they are likely to lose all 4 of those games. Maybe they’ll beat UCLA but they’ll be the underdogs in the others.

Couple of notes on Elko and A&M.

Ross Bjork hired him from duke and his replacement is Trev Alberts who has lost Schloss Texas and Buzz to Maryland in his 20 months on the job.

Jimbos buyout is 7.5 million per year until 2031 and based on the Rhule extension Penn State was likely in the 12 million per year range. Would the aggies be willing to commit around $20 million per year in just Head Coaching salaries?

Ross Bjork in 2023 after the Jimbo firing mentioned publicly they were looking for ways to cut costs.

Full interview- Cost cutting around 3 minutes

On the Penn State side of things they are likely going to have most of their Franklin buyout eliminated from the books this year due to enough high profile jobs of his choosing.

Their current AD used to be Temple and hired Rhule, Geoff Collins and Manny Diaz (for 2 weeks) which all had success there. So don't be surprised if he out manuevers Alberts and a&m.

Have we thrown out Jimbo back to LSU?  He's rested and ready.

I don't understand the Ed O to Oregon State conjecture.  I can't imagine a more perverse culture fit.

one more down , Elko has to be at the top of this list right ?

ESPN thinks so, but seemingly with projection and not any sources.

Elko, who has Texas A&M off to an 8-0 start, certainly would fit the PSU program, given his roots and how he spent the first 15 years of his coaching career in the Northeast, mid-Atlantic or Midwest.

Elko might be deciding between two well-resourced programs. The difference is that Penn State has accomplished way more on the field than Texas A&M has and is now clearly striving for national titles. Elko is certainly motivated to, as he has put it this season, break down doors. "We have high goals and expectations for this team and for this program," he told ESPN last week. "We know in order to meet them, we have to do things that haven't been done."

Being the coach to elevate a historic underachiever is enticing. Elko also has followed college football for decades. He knows that outside Ohio State and Michigan, Penn State has had fewer barriers to success over the years, including no rival like Texas in the same state.

"Elko should take that [Penn State] job," an industry source said.

Then again, if Texas A&M makes the CFP as a top-four seed, Penn State might have to make its hire sooner.

I don't follow Penn State to know enough about its standing among the wealthier programs.  But we know aggy is capable of coming up with silly money for new hires, so if Elko leaves for Penn State, I don't think money will be the driver.

The owner of the Bills Terry Pegula as an alum. He wrote a $100 million check to allow PSU to have hockey and even paid to keep O'Brien around. They also churn out CEOs at an impressive rate ranking as high as #2 in that regard.

The portal.

That is giving boosters more of a personal stake in the game. It's not all, though. The megaconference structure means every blueblood+ school can no longer be 10-2 at the same time since they're all playing each other.

Seems to be turning into a 4 years to win it all or you’re out situation. That means for most fanbases, championships will remain illusive and turnover will be high as hell.

Let's be fair here. People are selling their wives pussies because sometimes marriage sucks and college football is more important than even your own children. College football is our lord and savior.

Boosters have more of a personal stake in the game because now you’re paying players directly. It’s a vicious cycle because there is no reward to paying NCAA players aside from winning, it’s not like the pros where the owners balance other interests.

Yep, or at least, in 4 years, you better make the CFP 3 times or you're out.

Kirby Smart sucks ass but he ain't wrong - the new normal in college football means a 9-3 or 8-4 season puts you on the hot seat immediately, regardless of what you've done before.

I'd refine that a bit.  The booster pays the player and his only payoff is winning.  The owners (universities) can still benefit from the talent acquired by the boosters.  If we recruited a lightning bolt media whore - a 2026 Manziel - but went 9-3, the boosters who paid him millions might be pissed, but our Athletic Department would be stoked at the higher ratings and licensed merch sales.  How long that is sustainable remains to be seen.  There aren't too many comparable scenarios where the person spending the money is completely disconnected with the person reaping the fruits off those investments.

It would be worth it just to hear him end his interviews by sizing up the ditsy blond sideline interviewer before guterally mumbling "go beavuhs" with a twinkle in his eye
